    When I moved in 2019, I purchased 6 of the Billy Bookcases and it was the best decision ever. I’m up to 11 now. They were such a great investment and look amazing displaying my LEGO collection. I highly recommend them!
    However, I had NO idea that there were third party companies that made LEGO displays specifically for the Billy bookshelves.
    For my parts storage, I use the Papimax drawers and I really like them. They aren’t aesthetic, but they’re functional!

    Really helpful to get some storage suggestions. I have reached a point where whilst I have my own office, which will be my Lego display space as well - I have literally stopped building Lego sets as I have nowhere to store/display them!! I am halfway through building the UCS Millennium Falcon, which I know will be a huge storage commitment. I have 3 huge storage boxes in the loft, full of Star Wars sets, both investment and personal but can not really build any more if them until I sort done display furniture. My keenest want is to build my Betrayal at Cloud City set, but I know if is huge, wide and will take up loads of space - I currently have my MBS Mos Eisley simply sitting on the floor as it has nowhere to go!
    You are definitely right that you reach the point of having to think about the size of the set and it’s display implications before building it!!
    I been looking at the IKEA website recently and I think it’s the way to go - thank you for the suggestions - I think KALLAX is a good option as it is deep as well as wide. Happy building/displaying everybody!

    These are all great suggestions Holly. Dusting is a huge headache, especially if you procrastinate on doing it. (I know from experience.) Regarding bookshelves, I do not recommend the ones sold at Walmart, especially if you put books on them. The weight from books takes a toll on them, I know from experience. I had one collapse after a move. As someone else mentioned, the ultimate LEGO collecting essential is more space, especially if you want to display your collection.

    I recently upgraded my 5x5 Kallax to 4 Pax units, the 22" deep kind, to fit larger sets like Hogwarts, City Gardens etc.
    Over my desk I also have 6 Lack shelves (40" long each), 2 rows of 3 each with about 15 inches height gap. Having 3 of the lack shelves in a row is quite something. I have my Diagon alley plus all the 2020 hogwarts castle sets on display, plus room for much more.
    Another fun option from Ikea are the picture frame items Mellosa shelves but in clear. I have 7 stacked above each other, perfect to fit 3 speeds champions cars each.

    I use soft bristle paint brushes for dusting off my collection. When it comes to putting a set away I just put it in a big zip lock bag and into a tub container. I never want to part out the pieces again just in case I want it back out or it sky rockets in price. I bought Ninjago Dawn of Iron Doom for $10 way back and it jumped in price. I had to build it from scratch and it was true torture. I was able to flip it for some old LOTR sets but I never want to experience that again.😅

  • @Mavryk
    @Mavryk ปีที่แล้ว

    I recently moved into my own place, and instead of going the ikea route for shelving, I went the bunnings route. The garage shelving units, like the ones from pinnacle, are much wider and deeper. And while yeah they aren't as pretty, for mass storage on a budget they look fairly decent, and with a bit of work, you could probably hide the industrial look to make them pretty. Unfortunately they don't have doors, but I had to make sacrifices due to the sizes of some of the sets (and other collectables). I am curious about those drawers though, I haven't gotten into spare pieces storage yet.

    • @rkc62
      @rkc62 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Pinnacle shelves from Bunnings (and Officeworks) have the advantage that light from above goes through the gaps between the LEGO builds, for a much better display effect. The solid bookshelves limit how close you can put the shelves because some sets get lost in the dark at the back.
      Also, you can get the Pinnacle shelves on wheels, so for Harry Potter or Cafe Corner builds you can show the front, but turn them to reveal the interiors.

    I love the Billy bookcase but one thing I'd change is the Oxberg doors. IMO the Morliden doors are much better (Edit: Just found out Morliden's been replaced by Högbo). They have a smaller frame around the whole thing so you can see more of your sets. Here in the UK, we have deeper Billy bookcases that are 40cm deep and it sucks that they're not available in a lot of other countries. Most places seem to have 28cm deep ones. • @HollyOnFilm
      @HollyOnFilm  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      There definitely should be the protective film, on the white frames it blends in with the colour but it’s in there. As for the magnets it may be worth contacting them. I know on the newer style it’s way easier but I still find myself kinda wedging it inside and using the unit itself to help hold up the frame since the magnets at least on my older one are quite weak. It was easier to attach the back plate so if your able to reach around the unit to install them that could be way easier

    • @HollyOnFilm
      @HollyOnFilm  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yep, I noticed it on the last two orders I got. When it comes to display cases and ship stands it doesn’t effect anything, but for minifigure stands especially for the expensive figures it makes it harder to justify. I swapped out the studs in a case I have for a single figure to be safe, and won’t put any of my most valuable on the stand with fake studs. If I get another tiered minifig stand for my Kallax, it will be from tricked out bricks since they seem to use offical studs.
