Hi this video will show you how to change the key battery on the latest VW Touareg Key. This is a very simple job and you just need a small screwdriver.
Detailed procedure of changing the Touareg (T3) Key fob Battery without damaging your remote! Emergency Key removal procedure is also included in the video.

The person who designed this key fob should be sacked, and their boss sacked, and their boss's boss sacked. Replacing the battery on a critical part of your vehicle should not be this difficult. Kudos to the person who made this video. I have to revisit it annually.

Huge thanks! I read the cryptic manual and a mechanic told me to "push down" through the left side hole. I understood _push down,_ literally. Would never have guessed the trick is _"find a slider, hook your screwdriver on top and slide down"._ Owe you a beer! 🍻

This really helped. I never would have figured this out on my own. Finding and triggering the latch that removes the side of the fob takes some time and patience. The rest of the process is easy.

Thank you. I live in Dubai and was going to the dealer every time my wife's battery needed changing. I attempted to do it as per the owners manual , but was afraid Of breaking the key fob when I first tried to do it and was unsuccessful. Your directions were quite clear as was the video . I do a lot of mechanics and… this key fob infuriated me 😀 thanks to whoever designed it. Best bet after finally getting it open is to put a very long lasting battery in it and pray you don’t have to open it again.

Pretty good. One thing the video doesn't make clear (aside from exactly where the side latch release is) is whether to continue to depress the VW button while trying to release the latch.

Not clear if I should be pressing the vw button on opposite side while trying to get lever down with my screwdriver, or work the lever without depressing the vw button??

you definitely have to be patient with that lever to remove the side piece, don't force it, once it catches it pops easily. I did both of my key fobs, first one took me 20 minutes, the second 3 minutes :) you need a very tiny screwdriver!

you can actually stick a pick tool in the top seam of the fob where the latch is to open the side, way easier than the screwdriver method.
Is there a trick to the latch - I have been trying to do it for a solid 20 minutes...and by some strange miracle I HAD the tiny screwdriver...still can't get it open.
It's extremely difficult. Just keep at it and follow the video.

This is just one more reason why I am frustrated with my Touareg. I seriously have a love/hate relationship with it. So many unnecessary and over engineered features. I’m still unable to get the side piece off and I have a dozen small screwdrivers. Anyone else get the cold water spilling all over their feet? Anyone else just love replacing the battery in their Touareg?
I'm in your camp, Derek. This is completely overcomplicated. Like almost everything about the Treg. The only thing I've found that can be easily replaced are the foglights and turn signals.
Yep had the water ! and the whole passenger seat out for an entire-day-battery 600 dollar replacement

One of the most infuriating battery replacement experiences of my life. And if you take it to the dealer to have them do it, they'll charge you 50 bucks terrible.
This one is pretty ridiculous. Takes a lot of time (and a little luck) to hit that latch just right
