I'm so glad theres people out there that are into this shit. I feel like im the only one into this music. Anyone whos out there.. fuck yeah man. SD for life
Little pocket between jungle and DnB that never caught on. Beautiful while it lasted. Nobody captured the tension and anxiety of the era like these guys.
Looking at that cover art photography, I would see this and buy it without even having to listen to it and know that this is quality 100%. They say you shouldn't judge a book by its cover, but you can, you need to know HOW to judge a book by the cover.
As I lay here in bed with THE love of my life next to me we been reading through some of your comments about my music, which most are all supportive and have positivity at heart, however, funnier still are a few comments by select individuals who make bold claims of "knowing" what happened in my studio when making the tracks you all hear today. I'm not gonna loose one wank (oops... sorry! theres other activity happening at same time here...lol) correction, wink of sleep over anyones opinion or beliefs but it does get up my nose to read people (they must of been a ghost in the lab with me at the time I made these tunes hey...lol!) telling others that they "KNOW" how or who did what and when with my music. Let me set the record straight regarding one jokers comment on this page suggesting I was given this breakbeat by my old mate Rupert/Photek when I personally created it to begin with. I was never shown how to make my own music you fools... how could I?! If anything I supplied Rupert with all the finest breakbeat and sound samples used to make his first few releases, not the other way round. I simply got on with going about my business and couldn't give a toss what people think but I believe its now time to start setting the record straight and will tell it how it was for the sake of musical history when I read nonsense. Secondly, someone has wrongly stated Nemeton was a collaboration between us but again let me inform those who want to know this is an alias of The Shamen and/or Mr C. I did a remix of their track Destination Eschaton under my earlier alias "Sounds Of Life" which got released on a limited edition 10" vinyl by record label One Little Indian. I think this should help clear up a few misguided people...know your tracks and facts before making these claims on a public forum. Respect to all the SOURCE DIRECT fans out there... I LOVE YOU ALL and can't wait to be raving with everyone again soon... I'm conjuring up new music to let loose on you soon! Peace, Jim.
Crazy ass best programming and switching of breaks. Just when you think your off in one dirwction. Bamm !!!!, it shifts to another. I really hope heads really appreciate the detail of tracks like these
I remember 1996, I was round my mates house, he and his brother had turntables and money to buy vinyl. I put a tape in, and he was like 'fucking hell' it's at a peak. But then came '97, and '98. Around '99 it began to slide.
I think Source Direct smashes Photek in terms of dark tunes but atmospherically I think Photek has the edge, with a few exceptions like fabric of space by the SD gents
From what I know yes. However production wise I think and please correct me of I'm wrong the production was down to Jim Baker . I swear down the dude has mad imagination. When you listen to the tracks it's not only just very extremely well detailed breaks , but the mood atmospheres created are on filmscore level imo .
***** The hi hat distorted hi hat sounds really familiar to me but the drum sound could be recreated pretty easily with some carfefully sculpted reverb and some samples you can find on freesound or elsewhere.

Amen breaks for the drums and I believe its an old 60's\70's Funk sample like Roy Ayers or the like? similar to the WEB OF SIN or STONEKILLER I forget but a lot of James Brown et al has been used throughout their productions believe it or not!!
that dark shadow shaolin warrior type vibe. dam.
the duo of all time duos never fails to deliver pure madness
Top top level production. It doesn’t get any colder than this. Easily one of the best DnB/techstep songs ever produced
this was made more than 25 years ago and still sounds like the future

Gents there's a group on facebook called ''Long live beauitfully crafted jungle'' join it, you're not alone ;)
@burteriksson I genuinely agree

13 years and not ONE dislike. Shows how solid the era was! 💪🏼
You just don't see such flavor and intense, sophisticated audio imagery in today's music.
all culture is declining, not just music but art and fashion, everything.
@@johnpineapple3329 right...
@@johnpineapple3329 It operates in cycles. Just wait it out. Spengler is only one side of a story.
Most underrated Jazz duo in musical history who ever made anything like this before or since. High art if there is such a thing

Laying it straight, respect. Big ups from the U.K.
The VERY FIRST Drum and Bass tune I ever heard.

I do, maybe only second to R.Parkes but it's a toss up some days. Kind of lost art these days. Ages like good wine too :)
@@kaidoluht1957 Yes I agree . Having said that it's a good thing this style was not rinsed .to death by everyone

this may be one of the darkest jungle releases ever lol

Bank Robbing music
My kinda choon!!!!!! Pure drums & bass.
Couldn't have said it better myself.
Mad tune this.....very evil in a lonely place in a way. 1997 was futuristic still is now in 2023
Source Direct > Photek
I think Source Direct smashes Photek in terms of dark tunes but atmospherically I think Photek has the edge, with a few exceptions like fabric of space by the SD gents
+A. S. THHAANNKK UUUUU
source direct are SO much darker than Photek. They sound mysterious
Controversial. I heard Photek taught them a lot though. Is it the case of the student surpassing the master?
Music is subjective. What's great to you can be shit to me. We've all got our favourites. Both masters of their craft back then
Nice chop, as usual. Source Direct was always a duo, correc?
not always

Dutty track
Dark AF!
anyone know the break that is sampled???
***** The hi hat distorted hi hat sounds really familiar to me but the drum sound could be recreated pretty easily with some carfefully sculpted reverb and some samples you can find on freesound or elsewhere.
It's a break made by Photek that was then given to Source Direct and also TeeBee, you can hear the same break in TeeBee's remix of Angel by Goldie
