Keith David has such an iconic voice. He's been in a lot of movies and tv shows and voiced many game characters. All I can think of is Sergeant Foley from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.
They honestly did a good job of explaining away the animation mistake when the second game came around. In the first game, you would say that it seems like a serious stretch for Julius to be responsible and it seems out-of-character, but if he believed the Saints were heading down the wrong path and becoming as bad as the Vice Kings, which is certainly plausible since they're a gang consisting of psychopaths like Johnny Gat (badass though he may be), then it becomes much more logical that he would use it as a chance to get out and finish off the last dangerous gang in Stilwater. Even without the protagonist causing mayhem, though, the city was still taken over by three different gangs by the second game, so ultimately it made no difference. He killed off the Saints and allowed new gangs to take over that were by far worse, made an enemy of the protagonist (the single most psychotic individual in the series by the second game) and ultimately got himself killed. The story became more interesting because of it. Rather than some nobody stepping in and becoming your enemy in the second game, taking up the whole plot with some revenge story, the plot was turned into a resurrection story for the Third Street Saints and I think it worked out for the better in the end. I don't mind how the series turned out with the third game, hell even with the fourth, but I do understand why people miss the first and second games' tone. Here's hoping one day they'll decide to revisit the series' roots and create a game with the tone of the first and second titles, but the updated and enjoyable gameplay of the third and fourth. Even if it's not a Saints Row game. Obviously not everything would work (superpowers and VTOLs), but there's still a lot that would.

I've watched this video a dozen times now, done everything I can to piece together what happened here, and having the full picture the way things played out drives me up a wall thinking about what should've been. They had the whole franchise planned out to the 3rd entry, with a prequel covering the Kings and Jules' mistakes leading to SR1's events, and a sequel in Japan (this is where "Professor Genki" comes from). They had to toss almost everything out because 1 lazy animator wanted to clock out early and did whatever they wanted with the cliffhanger. In my opinion, Julius kept it the most real with the boss right up until he shot him. Did he deserve to get shot in his head? Most definitely. He had absolutely zero right to make the call that talking to you would be useless, when you had shown yourself to be the most dedicated, effective soldier in his entire group, who almost singlehandedly took over Stilwater on HIS orders. He's a piece of shit that deserved what he got, and then for him to expect and *demand* to be excused for what he did is crossing the line. Unless your name is Jesus Christ or Mahatma Ghandi, what the boss did is what the majority of us would do in the same situation. At the same time though, what he says about and to you is true; He released a monster that he could no longer control, even *if* the Saints had accomplished what they were intended for, it wasn't going to be enough for the player, who judging from the fact that they resort to bullshit like a faux bank robbery for the sake of a fucking actor, is not ONLY a sociopath as Julius knew them to be, but a power hungry, narcissistic, meglomaniac who becomes so obssessed with murdering people that they make Johnny Gat seem like a quiet, well adjusted and well tempered member of society. Julius had seen his old friend go down the same path that you were going down, and tried to stop it before it grew out of anyones' control. He tells you this as you prepare to kill him, and knows you won't listen to him or anyone else, and so then dies with the knowledge that, at the very least, you got your vengence. He never ever speaks bullshit to you, and unlike Johnny, tries to help the player become a better overall person. But his fate was the result of his poor decisions, and should be granted no pity as a result for trying to play God with people.
Without him, we would of died on that street corner!
