I don’t know why some creators say that 200mp shots are not that great but seeing your review clearly shows that it is wild. Waiting for 14 pro vs S23 Ultra camera comparison. Btw I’m using iPhone 14 pro.
Personally I'm going to stick with the S22 Ultra. I'm on a budget looking to upgrade from my already budget Samsung A series I've been using for a while and even if I'm not upgrading to S23U It's still a big jump for me so I don't mind the 1 year difference. Thanks for the review
I will upgrade from my S10e to the S23 Ultra this year. My S10e works just fine but it's been bugging a lot recently. Super happy Samsung did a good job on this new Ultra!
Samsung knowingly bugs their old phones. Even I'm seeing my S20 slow down and stutter over the years even a clean wipe and do-over doesn't fix shit. Not to mention the battery takes a huge hit
My S7 Edge also works fine, but I was also thinking of upgrading to the S23U. Big jump and big price, but it will be worth it. Storage isn't ebough anymore with the 7 edge
Hello Danny, thanks for putting out this video. I own a Samsung Note 20 Ultra phone and although the picture quality has improved through many software updates, the fundamental issue with autofocus that plagued the S20 lines of fones & which was just patched through laser AF in N20, is corrected only so much. Can I request you to make a comparison video between Note 20 Ultra and S23 Ultra if that is not too much to ask. Thanks in advance.
Was the autofocus bad from the beginning? The Note20Ultra was released half year after the S20 lineup with with the fixed autofocus..mine never had autofocus issues.
Yes, the autofocus was bad initially but became better through the updates, however, the issue with softer images remains. The other issue with N20 Ultra that has remained is keeping everything in focus while trying to scan a document. Don't get me wrong, the camera is really good, telephoto lens is awesome, but it's absolutely rediculous for scanning a document or even keeping smaller things in focus. For documents, my $200 Redmi phone outshines N20 anyday. Doc scanning is also one of my screening criteria now. Apart from the regular pics, I would love to see samples of document pic.
On the s22 ultra file details it was set to heic instead of jpg that was used on s23 ultra so that accounts for some of the difference in file size aswell I think you should have used jpg on both in case the heic causes worse compression loosing some detail
According to most sources I've read, HEIC/HEIF gives equivalent or better image quality while also giving much smaller files, so this shouldn't be a negative for the s22u.
@Ruhi Al Jawwad At 7:50 mark when comparing the file sizes the s22 ultra was using heic file type but s23 ultra was jpg it probably doesnt make a huge difference but for a fair comparison they should both be using the same setting either heic or jpg

They are using same sensor either a processing tweak or using the new feature from the new isp 8 gen 2 for a better dynamic range which result in better detail and contrast
The fingerprint scanner module is actually the exact same as the S21 Ultra and the S22 Ultra, but that software change when setting up the fingerprint scanner was added via One UI 5. A great video, Danny!
Was hoping the trade in with s22u was higher. Hard to justify the cost for the upgrade to the s23u. Not the end of the world because the s22u is still great.

The main camera on this phone is simply groundbreaking. We have reached a level of ultra high resolution and quality that blows everything and everyone out of the water, kills forever the BS speeches that higher megapixels equals low light and, most fundamentally this slaps in the face professional cameras that cost between 5 and 10 thousand dollars that can only dream having this kind of resolving power. The fact that even at night without any pixel binning 200MP stills can still hold such level of the detail and clarity is simply mind blown. What we are witnessing here is a leap forward in photography quality that is further going to shake up the establishment of the professional camera industry that has absolutely nowhere to go except keep in dying slowly. This is stunning and I can't imagine how much better things will be like 5 years down the road by which time the general capabilities of phone sensors, lenses and computing capabilities will make this phone look like a dinosaur. s23 ultra improves a lot of the shortcomings of the s22 ultra, and looks like it will be an excellent performer with much improved battery life. i was all set to upgrade, had already reserved an s23, and trade in my unlocked, 256gb s22 ultra. until i saw the pitiful trade in they were offering for my s22 ultra: $500 for a device i paid $1000 for just a few months ago. i was shocked and am really disappointed, it's truly insulting as a long time samsung customer. the s23 ultra is better but not $700 better. it would be a $700 upgrade from the s22 ultra.. where samsung misled customers about the snapdragon 8 gen 1 performance / benchmarks, that still falls short on thermal and battery life. instead of making this up to it's customers with a good trade in like last year, they insult us. i won't be upgrading to an s23, unless they come out with a much better trade in for the s22 ultra.. and even then, im seriously considering moving away from samsung entirely. i feel like i got burned.

If it means anything to you guys, some countries do not even offer any trade-in whatsoever, (heck there are lack of bundle options from local carriers as well) hence I find it amusing to see people complaining about low trade in value vs not having that option at all. My Note 9 is on its last leg and its overdue for an update, but partially the reason for that is we don't have any trade in incentive whatsoever. So I'd say its not really a bad situation to be in, although some countries have better trade-in value proposition than yours I must say.
Hi Danny, that's a great video from you! Actually I'm curious what's the game name that you play on 4:03. Can you or someone please tell me what's the game name? Thank you so much.
while S24U will bring improvements there's bad news also on the way, as Samsungs plans to use Exynos 2400 once more , so far confirmed in S.K but that will 100% spread in Europe as it always was before
- 10x zoom better on S23 Ultra - Light sources in night shots better on S23 Ultra - Dynamic range in night mode better on S22 Ultra All in all: subtle improvements, as a S22 Ultra owner I will NOT upgrade for more than € 1,000.-, at least half of the improvements can also be achieved by using some sliders in the afterwork. 😉
Can you compare 4k to 8k video? The S22 Ultra took a serious image quality hit likely due to the ISP just not being able to keep up with all the data from the 108mp sensor so you sacrificed on sharpness, stability and highlight detail going from 4k to 8k. Does the S23 Ultra's 8k just sacrifice less image quality wise vs the 4k mode vs the S22 Ultra or are the image quality sacrifices going from 4k to 8k gone entirely?
After debating last night, if I was going to switch from my iPhone 14 pro max. I finally pulled the trigger and placed my pre-order this morning getting the S23 Ultra in Lavender 512 GB for $500 after getting $900 for my trade in (really Awesome Samsung offers the 512gb for same price as the 256gb. Well Apple charges extra). And using my $150 credit I got matching lavender galaxy buds 2, and a lavender silicone case with a wireless dual charger for free!!! Sweet deal!
Another great video. Thank you! After seeing how the S23 Ultra handles that Coke red sign showed a promising S24 Ultra future haha. I will stick with my S22 Ultra for one more year though. These improvements were great. Especially in the video department.
So true. I noticed some disappointment about the S23 before release but this thing a another level. Especially if you own a Exynos S21 or S22. The difference in performance, camera and battery life is huge.
Thanks Danny. I ended up getting sucked in to upgrading my s22 ultra haha, by the looks of it I think it will be a phone I might actually keep for a couple of years this time. The camera looks awesome, I heard the battery life is amazing and the chipset is great as well.
Wow I really liked it when you put it 200 mp, this makes a huge difference in quality. With nightmode on its lots better for sure, just ordered this phone
Great comparison! Really glad to see that S23 Ultra wasn't just a gimmick 200MP marketing term but actually working way better than I Imagined. My 108MP images on S21 Ultra needs so much light that in most conditions unusable for my environments. But here even the 200MP looking so clear and that 8k video blowing me away. Again even 4k is mostly unusable in low light situations with my S21 Ultra but here even 8k seems viable on S23 Ultra. Dynamic range and the "HDR" feel is also amazing. Probably upgrading my phone next year so hopefully well continue seeing great improvements like these.
The fingerprint sensor is not bigger than S23U, it just moves on the screen so that different areas of the fingers are registered for quick unlock. It also happens on my S22Ultra
Thanks Danny. How about the battery. I heard that the battery is much better now. I wish that s23u had round corner like the s21u. Im not a fan of sharp edges
Two other good reasons it's time to upgrade to S23 Ultra: Android 14 will make it harder to sideload apps. Samsung might copy Apple with e-sim only next year.
No SIM tray will finally allow Samsung to put a 5500mAh battery inside. As an e-sim user, that is a no-brainer, and I will be disappointed if Samsung does not follow Apple.
I was waiting for this comparison! Believe it or not I was wanting a flat screen! But it's better than I thought... I'm still waiting on the flat screen 😅! By the way, I have a s22U and 13PM! Awesome, Thank you! 👑
I have had the S23U since yesterday. So the step from the S21U is not a step, it is a leap. I didn't expect it so clearly. And it's not just the camera. Everything runs smoothly and very fast. No jerking, no twitching, no stuttering. The battery also lasts noticeably longer.
Just looking at the image information at 07.50 you can see the different information different in f1.8 vs f1.7 nd 1/332 s vs 1/222s also looking at the file name on s22 was it taken on high efficiency? Was the s23 ultra pic taken on high efficiency or not ?
Danny, Great Job doing this video. I really like your work. Will you do a S23 Plus test ? Because of your S22 plus make me choose the 22 plus instead of ultra last year. Tanks
I'm still using a Note 10 plus and love the photos that come out of it. I always get People commenting as well on how good they look. I used to upgrade my phone every 12 to 18mths but I've kept this bad boy for almost 3 and half years. The s23 ultra though may get me to finally upgrade...the lack of an SD card though really makes me pause
It's weird that not all youtube reviews does not have the same quality of shots at night. Some videos by most youtubers has this haze/muddy effect in each results and also very noisy. But for others like in this video, it gives us contrasty and clear results from the new sensors. I'm sure that it's not just about the scene... there's really something happening here. (this also applies to day time shots, on this video it shows good contrast and clarity but other reviews have this cloudy/reflection/haze whatever you want to call it) Now I'm worried that samsung is giving us 2 new versions of the HP2 sensor depending on the region... 1 low quality sensor and 1 good sensor..
I agree; there needs to be more consistency in what I see from this new sensor, and I have to question what is going on. Usually, I would blame my Exynos for sucking at night shots, but no longer. Strange!
Thank you very much for this review Danny, I just pre-ordered the S23 Ultra and I look forward to picking it up on Wednesday. What I would really like however is your ability to live so close to Disney Springs! That is my dream, to be able to go to Disney World every day :)
I am thinking of upgrading from the S10 to the S23 ultra and I believe the S23 ultra is a worthy upgrade. If you upgrade your phone every year or every 2 years, then that small improvement over the 1 or 2 years isn't worth the upgrade.
I've watched a few comparisons, including against an iPhone 14 Pro and find the dynamic range and color balance (too much magenta) really off in the S23 Ultra. Can this be corrected in the settings?
Impressive review. Without timewasting. Respect. And aprpos s23 ultra photos, it seems they did do a great job in processing "red dominat" objects. In rgb world it is quite common to lose details in postprocessing.
Mkbhd states that the Samsung S23U got new zoom sensors, but is that correct? The new lenses of the zoom removes the lens flare and it makes a big difference as I have documented in my recent video, but new sensors?
Samsung says they are all new sensors across the phone. That’s what they said and from the results I can’t say they are wrong. Maybe the Ultrawide is the only questionable one but software tuning should take care of it.
It really does seem like they massively improved their optics, as it generally looks sharper with less post-processing sharpening. Especially that 3x seems to have a massive bump in sharpness away from the center of the frame.
Is Samsung degrading their previous year flagship when the new one's are out to launch through some software ? I always felt my device degrade in quality when I compared the recent photography with the old one.
Great review.. I observed something about the review or JUST ME.. I watched s22 ultra vs s21 ultra from your review and the result is same with this video. S21 ultra is brighter but s22 ultra is sharper, then here to your video, s22 ultra is brighter then s23 ultra is sharper. Have a great day sir. :)

I'll stick with my s22 ultra. I'm always using pro mode and expert raw to get really superb shots. I'll wait till next year for the s24 ultra.
Wow you must be really cool
@@IridiumZero he is, actually uses brain :)
while S24U will bring improvements there's bad news also on the way, as Samsungs plans to use Exynos 2400 once more , so far confirmed in S.K but that will 100% spread in Europe as it always was before
@@IridiumZero I'm soooo brainy. My head pulsates with new information xD
My question is,is it worth getting the s22 or s23 ultra as I don't find that much difference besides the camera and cpu performance.
Danny, your videos are always so detailed and comprehensive and easy-to-follow. Really appreciate this information that you are putting together
- 10x zoom better on S23 Ultra
- Light sources in night shots better on S23 Ultra
- Dynamic range in night mode better on S22 Ultra
All in all: subtle improvements, as a S22 Ultra owner I will NOT upgrade for more than € 1,000.-, at least half of the improvements can also be achieved by using some sliders in the afterwork. 😉
Yeah same it's not that serious lol maybe next year. The trade in value isn't great this year either..I think they're only giving 500 bucks.
GCAM with proper xml makes such minor difference upgrade rather insane
Is it just me ?! Or has the camera gotten better with one ui 5.1 update in the s22u? Can u do a side by side with the 23u after updating?
This is one of the only times that a commercial was actually very helpful! Great job I'm definitely gonna get the mag version when I pick up my Galaxy
Right the MagSafe is fire!!
Great video. Again upgraded for a Disney World vacation!
Like the prices especially here in Europe... 😕
Yea, I might wait for the s25U or get the s23U by that time. Gonna keep my s21 ultra for the time being. Running better than ever with android 13.
Very cool, can’t wait for mine to arrive, hopefully nice and early.
Didn’t go for the green though went for the online exclusive
After watching, I think am happy with my S22 Ultra. We will see next year...
Danny m really waiting for this video man really you did it thankyou for your detail video comparison we are proud of you bro❤️
Sharp edges make me more afraid to drop it😅 The S10 with its round edges is so tough!
@@iboysven yes looks less robust and feels like you will cut your palm hand flat :)
battery is already on par with 14 pm also thermal management is better. check 'techdroider' he did battery test.
No astro photos with the Expert RAW?
BTW, the magfit doesn't screw up NFC or wireless charging I assume? Not a great deal of info on it but I like the idea.
Loving your reviews😍 Keep it up bro!
Danny makes the best camera test comparison among all tech TH-camrs, there's no comparison
Two other good reasons it's time to upgrade to S23 Ultra: Android 14 will make it harder to sideload apps. Samsung might copy Apple with e-sim only next year.
Guaranteed Samsung will copy Apple. I think I may get this now.
No SIM tray will finally allow Samsung to put a 5500mAh battery inside. As an e-sim user, that is a no-brainer, and I will be disappointed if Samsung does not follow Apple.
@@andyH_England I just ordered esim for Thailand. You can add multiple of these to your phone. One think I find though, cost is more currently.
I was waiting for this comparison! Believe it or not I was wanting a flat screen! But it's better than I thought... I'm still waiting on the flat screen 😅! By the way, I have a s22U and 13PM! Awesome, Thank you! 👑
Hello, great video, have this phone the possibility to use a dual Sim?
Impressed with the camera reviews I have seen so far, much better than I had expected. Wonder how it compares to the UK Exynos model?
How do you crop out subject from photos like that?? Is it exclusive to s23u only? I'm using s22u..
Please tell me 23 is also comfortable in the hand without a case? Or 22 because of the more round shape is more comfortable?
Danny, Great Job doing this video.
I really like your work.
Will you do a S23 Plus test ? Because of your S22 plus make me choose the 22 plus instead of ultra last year.
Tanks
Yes I will for sure.
What a comparison video! Loved it!
I just bought S23U and can confirm photos are really great. I have upgraded from Note10Plus. Day and night photos are mind blowing.
(this also applies to day time shots, on this video it shows good contrast and clarity but other reviews have this cloudy/reflection/haze whatever you want to call it)
Now I'm worried that samsung is giving us 2 new versions of the HP2 sensor depending on the region... 1 low quality sensor and 1 good sensor..
I agree; there needs to be more consistency in what I see from this new sensor, and I have to question what is going on. Usually, I would blame my Exynos for sucking at night shots, but no longer. Strange!
Totally true! There are real differences from a review to another. The video looked very washed out (all the time) in other reviews.
Thank you very much for this review Danny, I just pre-ordered the S23 Ultra and I look forward to picking it up on Wednesday. What I would really like however is your ability to live so close to Disney Springs! That is my dream, to be able to go to Disney World every day :)
Thanks. How about the shutter speed for taking pictures of kids in action?
I'm thinking about switching from my note8. Should I upgrade?
100%
where were these pictures taken ??
very pretty locations
I dont think the fingerprint sensor is larger. Setup just makes you move your finger around the sensor, to get your whole fingerprint.
I am thinking of upgrading from the S10 to the S23 ultra and I believe the S23 ultra is a worthy upgrade. If you upgrade your phone every year or every 2 years, then that small improvement over the 1 or 2 years isn't worth the upgrade.
did you use the exynos s22u or the snapdragon s22u???
Great video as always
1:42 this is a one ui 5 new feature, the process is identical on my s21u with the update
Yikes ok thats what happens when you don't setup the finger print scanner in a year
@@dannywinget 😂😂😂
@@dannywingethoping can anyone gift me samsung even second hand..cant afford to buy..hi...im from philippines..thank you
Oh, nice! Mine is arriving on 17th but I already got my Spigen Zero One case. It's nice to see a little preview 😄
Right it is a fire case!!
Hi... Pls what is the name of the fame you were playing on 4:16
Very well made video, really getting me hyped to switch to this phone from my regular s22!
What car mount do you have for the magsafe case?
I've watched a few comparisons, including against an iPhone 14 Pro and find the dynamic range and color balance (too much magenta) really off in the S23 Ultra. Can this be corrected in the settings?
Lovely, how about the wide angle? It was bad on s21u and it is bad on my s22u. Are there any changes to that with the new phone? Thank you.
I didn’t see any significant changes but I should of showed more samples. Sorry about that.
Crazy how people spend so much money on flagship phones but 80 percent of buyers don't use it's full potential.
Awesome! Thanks for the comparison!
will your next comparison also compare shutter speed, lag, and auto focus in night ?
Impressive review. Without timewasting. Respect.
And aprpos s23 ultra photos, it seems they did do a great job in processing "red dominat" objects. In rgb world it is quite common to lose details in postprocessing.
Currently have an S21 Ultra, and im really happy with it. But im really tempted to take this leap. This video may have just convinced me.
Very informative, thx for the in depth review
Hi... Pls what is the name of the fame you were playing on chapter 4:16 pls I it very important to me
Can you compare to the s21 ultra?
Mkbhd states that the Samsung S23U got new zoom sensors, but is that correct? The new lenses of the zoom removes the lens flare and it makes a big difference as I have documented in my recent video, but new sensors?
Samsung says they are all new sensors across the phone. That’s what they said and from the results I can’t say they are wrong. Maybe the Ultrawide is the only questionable one but software tuning should take care of it.
great camera comparison, keep up the great work!
It really does seem like they massively improved their optics, as it generally looks sharper with less post-processing sharpening. Especially that 3x seems to have a massive bump in sharpness away from the center of the frame.
Hi... Pls what is the name of the fame you were playing on chapter 4:16
An amazing review and comparison, in gave up on Samsung at S10 after my Note 4 was the best. I have a Huwawei P20 mate but will now got to S23
How many MB is a 200 megapixel photo? how much free space is left, with Android installed
Is Samsung degrading their previous year flagship when the new one's are out to launch through some software ?
I always felt my device degrade in quality when I compared the recent photography with the old one.
Sir, I am facing hanging issues in s22 ultra even after factory reset what to do now.?
Great review.. I observed something about the review or JUST ME.. I watched s22 ultra vs s21 ultra from your review and the result is same with this video. S21 ultra is brighter but s22 ultra is sharper, then here to your video, s22 ultra is brighter then s23 ultra is sharper. Have a great day sir. :)
Love the new 8K. I started a second channel dedicated solely to 8K on my Note 20 Ultra. It is pretty amateurish, but it's so much fun lol. I'll probably be getting the S24 Ultra next year. Gr8 vid as usual. 📱 🇺🇸
Nice video so what one has the better selfie camera 📷 lol ??
your smartphone comparisions are the best..thank you
Hi Danny, can we also do a video comparing both phones portrait video and directors view?
You have a nice family Danny. I was waiting for your S23 Ultra test. Make zome zoom in videos with S23 / S23 Ultra
Waiting for the Disneyland camera test 😂
Watched the video in the gym on the phone (on my s22 Ultra) and I could see that the s23 Ultra was better. When I came home and watched it on the TV in 4k, well... Wow! What a difference.
Wow major update. Nice man.
