- Gerry Turner and Theresa Nist were the first couple to meet and marry on “The Golden Bachelor,” ABC’s spinoff of “The Bachelor” featuring cast members 60 and older.
On Friday, the newlyweds announced that they will also be the spinoff’s first couple to divorce.
They made the announcement in a joint appearance on ABC’s “Good Morning America.” “Theresa and I have had a number of heart-to-heart conversations, and we’ve looked closely at our situation, our living situation, and we’ve come to the conclusion mutually that it’s probably time for us to dissolve our marriage,” Mr. Turner, 72, said.

I think Gerry only chose Theresa because he found out she was a day-trader and made lots of money playing the stock market. He just wanted her for the money and she realized it. She was like, "Boy, bye!"

I totally agree with you! I think them saying the issue was the geographic distance is just BS. If you truly love someone, if they’re “your person” you make it work even if you have to live separately for a while until you figure out the logistics. He lied about significant parts of his history which makes him untrustworthy. When Juju asked in the interview if the Hollywood Reporter article factored into their split Theresa said no because Gerry told her about it before it came out so “we were good.” Notice she didn’t say he told her before their engagement…he told her before “it came out” which was after the show was filmed and they got engaged. The magazine would have reached out to him for comment as they always do when publishing a critical profile of someone and so he knew it was coming and had to give her a heads up. But at that point it was too late, they were already planning their wedding and life together and Theresa found herself on a speeding train she couldn’t get off. They may have discovered other incompatibilities (financial, political, etc) as well but him pretending he hadn’t had a first kiss in 40 years when in fact he had LIVED with a girlfriend after his wife died is a huge lie that Theresa couldn’t recover from.

Very good points, I would have to say I agree on this. Did anyone notice that at the Gerry and Theresa's wedding, the ring never really got onto Theresa's finger the way it should have; how odd that she had to clumsily put there herself. This could have been a type of 'fraudian slip' of both of them knowing the wedding was a show not a geniune intention.... like you say, I too think Theresa (who seems very decent, honest and real) was blinded by fame, the feeling of intense emotion for the 'new' man in her life, being a sudden star and of course the temptations of money, to properly have the time to digest who in fact, she was dealing with - a 'player' as the 92-year father of Gerry likely was insinuating in his interview comment some months ago. Perhaps also was noting his lifestyle and comparing it to her own: Her values were still to be active in work and that work is an important part of her routine. His routine is likely of a easy-going, pleasurable, fun, golfing, staying-fit etc lifestyle which is fine but much different from Theresa's. I also wonder if Theresa (always careful to be nice at the expense of harsh truths) never let Gerry know her real reasons for not wanting to continue: so she makes it appear that she simply will not leave her house, work or community when in fact, she has no place for him in her heart because of all the lies which she is finally beginning to recognize as such....

I turn 70 next month and I'm good with my age. I of course am not the same as I was at 30, 50 or even 60. But I love my life. I love to laugh and find humor and kindness in things.

I really believe that he is a serial cheater. That his entire family knows he’s no good. I bet most of the money for his lifestyle was from his wife savings. He definitely wasn’t a good provider but his children were not going to expose him because they didn’t want people to feel sorry for them.

Gerry was trying to scam and her family was not feeling him after he was exposed. Great commentary I believe Theresa played along but was not moving to any small town with him and look crazy he probably was sleeping with everyone in those small towns.

Also, the whole show it seemed like he was gonna pick Leslie (probably since she is a “sexy dancer” lol). However, towards the end, Theresa told him that she became an investor and a licensed financial advisor. Then all of a sudden Gerry shifted to wanting Theresa. I wonder if her financial status had something to do with it. Also, Gerry saying he had never been w/ anyone yet had a woman living with him for 2 years? That’s a very big lie. Theresa is so beautiful, smart and kind, she deserves way better!

From my point of view..Gerry was a great great salesman, he told everyone of them what they wanted to hear. He knows he was, tall, tan and a good looking healthy man, he was like a roster in a hen house. I’ve been in the high end car sales for 3+ decades I’ve seen so many of these guys go through. Try selling a 200K auto without telling the customer what they want to hear. But I also truly believe he was sick to his stomach because he realized he was going to get married now reality finally hit him. I was totally caught off guard on the divorce I didn’t know all that foolishness about Gerry interesting… I didn’t care for Teresa but she did not deserve this and I feel bad for her…I won’t get sucked in again for sure… great Pod..

The franchise gave them an all expenses paid one week vacation in Italy. That was on the after the final rose show. After Jesse gave them the trip, they announced that the wedding would be a honeymoon because they were getting married January 4 live on ABC. Big $$$$
