Okay, it's time for the fun fact of the day: It was revealed that Bill leaves a note in Stan's car on the way to the theater. The note reads: "NOTE to self: Possessing people is hilarious! Most children, especially siblings are selfish, they are still learning that balance between when it’s okay to be and when it’s not. I feel like ppl try and treat Dipper and Mabel as if they are adults and not literal children who are still learning. Also, the reason Bill was messing with Dipper’s body is because he never feels pain, he finds the experience pleasurable 😅
Gideon can’t be 8. He’s at least 10. In the episode when they fought in Globnor, Dipper and Mabel traveled 10 years to the past when Gideon was a baby (demon?). So he must be at least 10 years old.
I feel like the criticism of Mabel is unfair because people pretend that she's extraordinarily selfish, when she constantly goes out of her way to make people happy. People also love to pretend that Dipper isn't selfish. In the time travellers pig, let's not pretend that Dipper was willingly giving up Waddles, Mabel's pet, to be eaten, merely for a date with Wendy, someone he never had a chance with. Dipper rose the dead to prove a point in scaryoke. Dipper chased after Mabel in The Deep End whilst Mabel was trying to free Mermando, but apparently Mabel is the selfish one for trying to help someone she loves find his family even though she won't see him again.
To be fair, Mabel's performance was on a time crunch while the laptop wasn't until right before Bill shows up. Yeah, Mabel DOES have a tendency to tunnelvision on what SHE wants and there's a pattern of Dipper having to give things up to make her happy, but on the other hand he really could have just waited in this case
Rewatching it has made me realize that while Mabel tunnelvisions, Dipper also tunnelvisions but in a narrow way. Dipper was so onto figuring out a password, just like Mabel that he made the laptop go into a timer. He's just as impulsive and impatient as his sister, just less frantic.
@@bluewolf6323 people just give Dipper more credit when he's impulsive and tunnel visioned bevause his pursuits tend to be more intellectual. People tend to do that, you might not necessarily act any different but because of certain details people will treat the behaviour differently. Dipper wants to know things cause that's what he likes to do, even before Bill was part of the picture he was curious and always getting into things. Mabel is more creative and romantic and is having fun that way. People see what Dipper does as inherently more valuable so when he's selfish and impatient nobody cares but when she acts the same way it's a problem. Also combined with the fact that Mabel is not portrayed as the most intelligent. Also also people tend to have ideas about characters in their head that are more headcanon than canon. Dipper fits very closely to this wise nerd archetype so people fill in the gaps in their head. Dipper is a nerd, but he's also shown to be just as selfish, and equally as capable of being wrong and screwing things up for everybody. Instead of just accepting that is his character, people get upset when he's written that way cause it doesn't fit their headcanon of what he should be like to them. And then when they have these ideas about characters they treat them accordingly. Like the whole Dipper sacrificing for Mabel thing, he actually doesn't do that THAT much. Most of the time his sacrafice is just fixing something he screwed up in the first place like Summerween or helping her get Waddles back.
The journal 3 does have the pages that have been shown in the show and actually answers some questions, but don't buy it until you finish the story, IT HAS REALLY BIG SPOILERS
I gotta give props to Bill in Sock Opera. He IS a master manipulator. He got Dipper and a ton of the fanbase convinced she’s super selfish & never sacrifices for Dipper. Truthfully she’s not more selfish than Dipper or any child. Bill says this while showing scenes of situations where Mable was in danger, was doing the right thing for someone else, or is a victim of Dipper being selfish. It was entirely to make dipper think about his sacrifices w/o context and take the deal. That and the laptop was counting down to “delete” the data in the mindscape, where time should be frozen. He does this after yawning and blinking his eyes. Bill made it all up. It’s really good, most ppl don’t notice it.
You mean in danger from going out with the first boy who would date her while ignoring all the red flags that even Dipper pointed out to her? Helping someone else without even asking Dipper or anyone else beforehand to assist in a safe and efficient way and just deciding to do it in a completely reckless way that risked her brother's job and Mermando's life just because? Refusing to get over an animal she only met that day and choosing to be miserable for who knows how long (making me wonder how she's going to function when she inevitably outlives that pig) until her brother undoes all the hard work he put into those time loops? What context am I missing?
@@edmg7 Dating Norman doesn’t make her selfish, just naive. You‘re sort of right about the Mermando thing, except asking Dipper to assist her wouldn’t have made much of a difference either way. Lastly, why does Mabel have to give up Waddles just so Dipper can continue to pursue Wendy who was never going to date him anyway?
@@yersiniapestis5237 I would argue that her shooting down everything Dipper said about Norman without hesitation and even justifying the oddities despite noticing them and nervously laughing them off is her trying to justify the relationship, which while is certainly naive is also selfish. The reason I argue she's being more selfish in The Time Traveler's Pig is because Dipper put in a lot of work to keep Wendy from getting hit in the eye and going out with Robby. Even if we, from an audience perspective, know romance between them won't happen he at least put in a ton of work to do something kind for someone he personally knew even if there were some selfish motives. Mabel ignored her hunger, her fatigue, and any ichiness or discomfort from bugs and plants getting all over her to stand in place and feel sorry for herself over an animal she just met. Also terrifying was bills plan, in journal 3 Mabel finds a note basically saying Bill would end dipper’s body by jumping off the water tower. And asking Mabel if she wanted to join her brother
Honestly there are certain episodes of the Gravity Falls shorts that you should watch before you finish season 2, especially the ones on "Dipper's Guide to The Unexplained", because they bring up some very important mysteries that will become relevant in season 2
Look up the real-life Bill Cipher scavenger hunt. It was awesome. Gravity Falls wasn't just a show when it was on. It was an experience. Every week, we'd all scour every frame for codes and decode them as quickly as we could. We had so many theories and ideas about what was going on. And just like with any great mystery show, there were enough clues that many actually did correctly guess what was going on and who the author would turn out to be.
I think Sock Opera is my favorite episode of the show. I love Bill so much, and the jokes in this one hit so hard! Can't wait to see the rest of s2 too!
I think this may be from a Mabel diary entry that she wrote somewhere, maybe journal 3, but Mabel found a note from Bipper talking about how after he succeeded in his plans in this episode, he planned to jump off the water tower in Dipper's body, making it look like he killed himself. He then asked Mabel in the note if she wanted to join him. She couldn't sleep well for a while after that.
18:38 I get that Bill is trying to convince Dipper to take control of him, but Mabel has always been there for Dipper. Literally in the season 1 finale, she used the grabbling hook to avoid the blast and getting killed from fall damage.
I am SO GLAD I found you guys, I just binged all your Gravity Falls videos in one sitting. Loved your commentary and that you are paying attention to the cyphers and stuff. Idk how else to put it, so I'll just say you are the best.
Personally I don’t get much of what people talk about with Mabel, she sacrificed things for Dipper so many times she just doesn’t make a big deal about it, and it’s not a big thematic thing in the episode and it doesn’t need to be because she already is such a kind person. They don’t need to show her learning or growing in that cos she doesn’t really need to. They make it a point for dipper in the episodes because it’s part of his character development, especially like Alex Hirsch says, normally Dipper is actually wrong in those situations and actually need to learn and grow. But with Mabel she doesn’t need to grow in those areas, she doesn’t have as much to learn cos she generally is a very kind, compassionate and generous person to people and her family anyways. And the main reason I don’t quite get it is because Mabel is so kind and selfless with everybody else. Dipper is mostly caring if people he cares about. I think your allowed to be a little bit more selfish with family. In fact I think it’s kind of the point. Of course your going to be more selfless with them too and you would give up way more for them. But I think for family and especially siblings its a safe space for you to be messy and dumb and stupid and make mistakes and be forgiven. At least for me and my sister we are kind of selfish when around each other because she knows me deeper than anyone else. So I’m allowed to act a bit more selfish around her cos she knows why I’m actually doing something, my heart behind it and that I’m not being selfish cos she understands me better than anyone. But also cos she wants to protect me more than anyone and I want to protect her more than anyone. So with siblings I feel I’m allowed to be a little more selfish because my sister fights for me to be more selfish. She wants good things for me and I want good things for her. And also cos we know each other so well We can do what we want and the other person has to deal with it, cos they are your person but also cos you know that in the end the person will forgive you. With siblings I feel like you can be more selfish because you know you always have each other’s back when the rubber hits the road, and when it actually comes to the important things you drop everything and nothing else matters. I think I don’t really care if my sister is a little more selfish about something, like of ourse I’ll get annoyed in the moment but I love her and that’s what matters, someone who’s sticking beside me through the thick and thin and loves me in my selfishness and also because I know that she will drop whatever the thing that she’s being selfish about in face of me if she realises it’s importance and I will do the same thing for her. I feel like any slander than goes towards Mabel is either coming from only children or people who don’t have a good relationship with their siblings. Cos Mabel and Dipper are siblings. I don’t see anything toxic there at all that’s what being siblings are. That’s what is like. Neither character is a better sibling in any sense of the word. The both love each other so much and so equally, they just show it in different ways and different moments. Cos they are different people. Anyway great series and I love the way they depict a loving caring sibling relationship. This was a rarity when the show came out.
i don’t know if you noticed but at the end of the theme song sequence there’s a quick flash of a page from one of the journals with bill cipher on it. it has some clues and ciphers in it that’ll be useful info for later episodes.

Yes, the published Journal 3 is intended to be the book from the show and thus a total spoilerfest (it contains every page you see onscreen plus plenty of additional material by the original author and also Dipper and Mabel's additions) - you should definitely save it 'til after you've watched everything ^_~

I find people perceive Mabel as selfish because she doesn't do many huge things for Dipper but she does help him. She's always trying to help him with Wendy, whether that was setting them up or helping him get over her. And a lot of the stuff people credit as Dipper sacrificing for Mabel is like... He would be an absolute jerk if he didn't? Like the Waddles and Wendy thing. Mabel got her pig, he went back in time, asked for her help and made her lose him, he was sacrificing for her he was basically giving him back, he'd be an utter jerk to make her lose her pet, that she already had, to get s gift for a girl who isn't even ever going to go out with him. Things like that.
You should definitely do the gravity falls shorts BEFORE finishing the show, they contain some stuff that'll come back in the series, and even something that was already referenced in episode 2 of season 2.

Mabel can be and is selfish at times, but she's also a twelve year old kid and I will bet you money you weren't an awesome person at twelve. sorry. I just get very defensive at the "Mabel is selfish" thing because a lot of people try and make it out like she's this horrible monster but she's really just a kid trying out herself and her emotions.

This puppet episode was supposed to show Mabel giving something up for Dipper, yet the only thing it shows is that Mabel blackmails Dippers soul to continue the play and her being willing to give up the journal to the demon inheriting her brothers body for her damn puppet show. cool, she changed her mind after Bipper made her feel guilty about her choice but the fact that she was about to give the book is just insane. What a psychopath is she that she literally only cares about herself? Jesus.
@@lindseylindsey9200 I guarantee you that as a 12 year old I had a concept of death or a fate more horrifying than death and i had very basic empathy. I mean, 12 is when puberty starts hitting, its not like 12 year olds are babies who dont understand consequences.
The shorts were made to fill the waiting for season 2. If you finish the series 1st and then watch the shorts, your reactions might be less surprising because you'll already know. Your still not too deep into season 2 and the shorts combined would probably fill half a video. They are very short.

I honestly think that the Miners deserve it. Remember Big Henry! (Also I'm totally not biased.)
"there is no arc antagonist anymore" said on the episode where bill shows up again is hilarious sndnsindks
i don’t know if you noticed but at the end of the theme song sequence there’s a quick flash of a page from one of the journals with bill cipher on it. it has some clues and ciphers in it that’ll be useful info for later episodes.
Gravity falls is among my top favorite cartoons ever, here’s my list
1. Avatar the last airbender (has a spin-off)
2. Steven universe (has a movie and the rest of the show)
3.Gravity falls
4.The amazing world of gumball
If you haven’t watched any of these shows already I highly recommend them.
Agreed
But my top also includes "Adventure time"-and I would've put it in the first place
Such a masterpiece
@@Melanxolyc with the “sexy” elephant?
AtLA has a sequel, not a spin-off
The mini golf episode has always been one of my favorites
why is there the like clouds over half the screen? lmao
Sock Puppet Opera was the first episode i ever saw of GF, which made me start the series
Yes, the published Journal 3 is intended to be the book from the show and thus a total spoilerfest (it contains every page you see onscreen plus plenty of additional material by the original author and also Dipper and Mabel's additions) - you should definitely save it 'til after you've watched everything ^_~
this made me realize how early in the season sock opera is. what a masterpiece of an episode my god
Soos' W neck got him an actual W
I would check out the owl house after gravity falls. It reminds me of it quite a lot and Alex hirche voices one of the characters
They already started it actually
He also voices hooty not just king.
bill also said he'd help dipper "crack" the laptop, which he did...
He also showed him that its owned by Fiddleford. So technically Bill did honour his part of the deal, just in his own very vague way
@@ThatCzechGuy truly the smartest triangle known to mankind
Over the garden wall might be good to react to during fall/halloween
Great Reaction!! Can't wait for more!! I would kindly request that the channel forgo reacting to the shorts (for now) and continue on with the main episodes : )
I recommend watching the fandub of Gravity Falls Lost Legends once you finish watching the show.
14:44 i love how ironic these conversations end up being in retrospect, as this episode is one of the best bill episodes (it’s tied with weirdmageddon 1 and 3 for me)
Based on your guys reactions, I was WAITING for your reaction to Season 2 of episode 4.
BIG HENRY
10:29 BUT BIG HENRY
20:00 lol the Norman's said the opposite thing in early season 1 w Dipper
Ah Sock Opera, the origin of the edgy Bipper fanart that was all over the fandom back around 2014-2015
You should definitely do the gravity falls shorts BEFORE finishing the show, they contain some stuff that'll come back in the series, and even something that was already referenced in episode 2 of season 2.
There’s a cute anime fan animation for the back seat scene
The shorts take place in between season 1 and 2 so you guys should watch them now
Great Vid boys
Dipper is without his body anymore
Oh No... Next is Soos and the Real Girl... This is gonna be fun
19:56 Funny you guys mention that
Candy speaks Korean
Disappointed that they discovered Lost Legends when they did, the cover of the book shows a major spoiler from later in the series
Hoo, what a colourful shirt!! Nice drip
Fuckin' love these 2 eps
Different Shows that are amazing and deserve a shot
Amphibia!
Motor City!
Wander Over Yonder!
Star vs The Forces of Evil!
I’m gonna also vouch for watching the shorts before continuing this season- otherwise you’ll miss the clues to later season 2 episodes....
I can’t believe I haven’t thought of this before- but pacifica’s parents just left their child at midnight at a golf course O_O. Luckily the Pine’s are good people and had room (yes it’s just a tv show just saying her parents are shite)
Never forget big henry
There is something on your screen like a background
BILL DIPPER! BIPPER!!!
Gravity falls is such a great show, dont look at any of the titles of future episodes since they do contain spoilers. Also I know your probably not going to read this or probably care but I have been watching your guys reactions for ages and love your content and it would mean the world if you check out Final Space, its not the most well known show and was made by a youtuber but it is so emotionally good and I think you guys might enjoy it.
Of course I wasn’t. Doesn’t change that she isn’t either
Lol did dippers body die for a split second expelling bill?
Lost legends is cannon.
I'm just saying when your down with this series or whatever series your close to finishing YALL GOTTA REACT TO AMPHIBIA trust me it's soooooooooooooo gooooooood
Speaking of Lost Legends (which is considered canon) a really good fandub of the comic exists on TH-cam that I highly recommend people check out after they finish watching GF: th-cam.com/video/XKhgLwQnzlY/w-d-xo.html
R.I.P big Henry
It is better to watch the shorts before Season 2
This puppet episode was supposed to show Mabel giving something up for Dipper, yet the only thing it shows is that Mabel blackmails Dippers soul to continue the play and her being willing to give up the journal to the demon inheriting her brothers body for her damn puppet show.
cool, she changed her mind after Bipper made her feel guilty about her choice but the fact that she was about to give the book is just insane. What a psychopath is she that she literally only cares about herself? Jesus.
I guarantee you were just as horrible if not worse as a twelve year old, you just don’t think about it because nobody’s soul was at stake
@@lindseylindsey9200 I guarantee you that as a 12 year old I had a concept of death or a fate more horrifying than death and i had very basic empathy. I mean, 12 is when puberty starts hitting, its not like 12 year olds are babies who dont understand consequences.
forever mourning big henry
YES sock opera
You should watch wakfu next, it's pretty good (and I don't say this only because I'm french)
Great reaction!
Big Henry was a g
Anyone else see the stuff covering up the screen
The shorts were made to fill the waiting for season 2. If you finish the series 1st and then watch the shorts, your reactions might be less surprising because you'll already know. Your still not too deep into season 2 and the shorts combined would probably fill half a video. They are very short.
I think that either Rick and Morty or Regular Show would be a good new series.
too bad they edited out the scene with Bill ccalling Grenda "you monster" :)))
Recommendation: next time, if you can, turn up the volume in the show. Thanks
@3:43
“I hate her.”
Me: Yeah, I like her too. :)
After this you gotta watch star vs the forces of evil
I want them to react to wakfu so much
Don't read lost legends it takes place after both seasons so there's gonna be ALOT of spoilers
You need to watch the shorts actually now
Property of F = Property of Ford
yeah maybel might be selfish but the same could said for dipper since he used time travveling again and again to get satisfying result and all
How could disrespect big Henry by cutting death scene!!!!
Why is the audio so low?
Thx for the reaction
Mabel and Dipper have a VERY long heated debate in the fandom. Even all these years after the show ended. Mabel is just- shes very likeable but when you consider her actuons shes NOT a good person and I dont think the show addresses that as well as it could
1 year late but really? I've been arguing that she's not a bad person at all and that dipper is also selfish.
@@niyanna maybe shes not a bad person but shes certainly done several bad things that the show fails to address. Dippers selfish actions dont even touch hers. The way they address it in the comics is brilliant, she gets to be open and very explicit about her reasons for doing what she does and her regret. But that isn't in the base show, its extra content. Which is damaging to how her perception is and it SHOULD have been in the show
Can you guys watch Hajime No Ippo?
The password is Stanford, it belongs to Ford
You guys should watch Rick and Morty
