NOTE (6/2/23): Please note that for "Concentrate Fire: Strained" there is no cost. The Strained icon is only a shorthand for the type of damage given. The only current cost for using abilities is Force.
Just to let you know guys, the coordinated fire ability on the 501st doesnt cost you a strain, the strain symbol is only there to remind you which condition the ability gives out. Also, you can only use an ingress point off a move action so abilities such as jump and defensive manoeuvres wont be able to use this. Other than that, the battle report was really easy to watch. Really good production value and you took it at a really good steady pace
Thank you for your kind words on the production quality, it is much appreciated. Allow me to address your two points, happy to start a dialogue on these. The rules for Ingress Points states: "When a character would end an advance, climb, dash, or jump movement within Range 1 an Ingress Point, they may choose to use the Ingress Point." (pg 37) Our interpretation is that this is referencing the movement and not an action. Did we miss something? As to the "Coordinated Fire Ability" similar circumstance, is there a rule reference you can help point to in regards to strain not being a cost? I was able to find information on Force expenditures, but nothing else. I rewatched our AdeptiCon demo video and it seems to work as you suggest, however the rules were not clear on this point. - Ken
@@IONRadio This was a great, informative video. On the "Coordinated Fire Ability" thing, the rules do only seem to reference "Force" "costs" for abilities. To me that reads as if the only cost to an ability can be a "Force" cost. I also see that "Coordinated Fire" has a : before the strain symbol. My reading of that is that the ability itself is "Coordinated Fire: Strain", rather than being an ability "Coordinated Fire" with a "strain" cost. Perhaps other units will have "Coordinated Fire: Exposed" or "Coordinated Fire: Pinned"?
So excited to get these models in my collection. Need to schedule some friend time and get some games in. This will be a great reference when learning to play, over and over again...haha. Thanks!
Also, the models look great. Tools and terrain are also awesome. Immersive for sure. I wonder if you can get some line of sight POV videos for introducing the next round. Then, Ken can do his classic voiceover voice describing the situation. Love it guys!
We were filming a lot more for the learn to play. One example was "Line of Sight and Cover." Rather than interrupt the flow of the battle and expand this episode to 2 hours, we felt it would be better to offer these in smaller chunks for quick reference. Stay tuned for a separate Shatterpoint series with more detailed information. - Ken
Glad to know you are enjoying our Shatterpoint coverage, Barticuss! We do have BattleTech content planned, however with getting a review copy of Shatterpoint, its planned film time got pushed back a little bit.
We completely agree! We were in a position where we had to build and paint everything in four days. As we both have full-time jobs, this was not an easy task. We have already revisited some of these miniatures, so you will see improvements in upcoming battles. For the Obi-Wan and Count Dooku expansions, we had more time to paint.
We have 2 full battle reports in post production now and will be filming the next set soon (Dooku and Obi-Wan painting is almost done). Thank you for watching!
Hi guys! It was a really well made guide of how to play, I just have a question. Around minute 34:32 you use Captain Rex's ability "Defensive Maneuver" but you do not consider it as an action (same thing happened with your clones at the beginning of the video around minute 6:29. So my question is if the abilities consider to be actions or not. I would appreciate if you could explain that a bit, thank you again!
Thank you for watching, Angelo! We appreciate the support. Regarding Actions; On pg 10 of the Rulebook, you will see the following rule under ABILITIES: "If their text begins with 'Action:', the Unit must spend an action to use the ability." None of these abilities text started with "Action:" so it would not require the use of an action.
Thank you for watching. It's worth noting that we went into extreme detail on this episode to make sure we explained every little interaction. Getting used to the new symbology and terminology is always a little difficult with a new game. As we get into future episodes, they will move a lot faster and have better flow to our stories.
@@IONRadio I was not kidding: you really made an excellent video, explaining very well the game mechanics and how it works (I started by watching someone else's battle report and couldn't figure out a thing, that's why I watched yours in the first place). It's just looks to me that the game itself is over-complicated for what it does, and that's exactly the kind of info I need to decide if it's for me or not. So, once again: thanks a lot for an excellent video!

Glad to know you enjoyed the Learn to Play. Thank you for watching!
Very easy to follow, great video.
Thanks, Brian. Hope this is helpful!

Yeah, this is how it seems to be (based on some things Will Shick said).
@@TheGrumbleduke As a matter of fact, the 212th that come with Obi have Coordinated Fire: Pinned rather than Strained.
this is an amazing tutorial
Thank you so much. We are glad to know that you find our learn to play useful.

It's always awesome so see you guys play a new game. Do you still have Battletech videos planned? I remember you mentioning something about them.
Glad to know you are enjoying our Shatterpoint coverage, Barticuss!

Okay but at 26:27 did somebody lose their entire colon?
I appreciate the nature of prerelease content, but some bases need another layer of opaque paint 😅
Very well presented, thank you for sharing!

Sure thing, glad we could help out!
Excellent demo, showing very well... how boring, unnecessarily complicated and dragging on the game is ;-)
