I'd suggest playing it by ear. _Usually_ people respond to politeness well, but if they immediately jump to harassment then you kinda have to show them why you don't mess with furries.

I was denying being a furry since I was about 8 years old, 5 years later I’m finally accepting it and it’s absolutely awesome being part of the community, and so many people are just so nice and accepting
My ex friend told me that if I became a furry I couldn’t be friends with her. Like, 4 months later I blocked her because she was a homophobe. Good riddance

I'm 29, almost 30. I think I got pushback for being older like one time. I just really like the art style and most furries are just cool, fun loving people. I was a lurker until my mid 20s and a lot of what got me involved was exploring my gender identity. My sona was always female and interacting as a girl just helped me come to terms with my identity. It's the sort of thing where if you're already changing your species, people aren't going to give you flak for choosing your gender too.

Furry haters fill me with vitality. I let their anger and disgust fuel me with a resolve to be myself no matter what others expect me to be. I'm sort of glad they are around, actually, because they give me the clearest perspective that my life is happy and fulfilled when I immerse myself in the furry culture, and I can't imagine how hollow and empty my life would be if my entire identity was instead tied to hating other people for what they like to do in their free time.

tbh, these furry hates go far, there was a time where 2 or 3 people joined a server i was on and raided it (spamming, pinging @everyone) stuff like that, and even when i was a videogame (where i had furry profile picture) and that one person tried to kick me out of the game for that one reason so yeah, not many people are cool

There is and has been furry hate ever since the furry fandom was introduced in the 80s. Good news is we stray away from the NSFW content away from minors and kids who are planning to join the furry fandom for the first time. Be very careful when joining this fandom just be very very very careful who you meet on the internet.
Older furry myself at 31. But that's totally okay. Greys are there to keep the wheels greased and to give advice/socialize younger furs. The film was really, really good. It was my first introduction to furries. The moment (57.44) where Zillionross just stands at that window at 2019 Anthrocon, wearing the red protogensuit. That just clicked something for me, and since then I've been in the fandom.
I checked out the webcomic "TwoKinds", and it is as good as you said, and is the longest comic I’ve read as well. Even though I’m not really the one who likes reading but- It really caught my attention, it felt like being inside it (no cap). First time I’ve actually felt emotional at all after all other books or kind of long texts I’ve ever read. Yea, 1166 pages may sound crazy much, but it is worth reading it. Me who could't even wait to read only chapter-by-chapter, I just read the whole comic in three days (26 hours to be more exact). Created by Tom Fischbach about 18 years ago, and still is (being) a work in progress (W.I.P)/drawn. I *do* recommend reading it. (Don’t mind, this *absolutely* isn’t a spoiler right below this apparently "spoiler warning" text). I felt so sorry about Keith, after he lost Laura. Laura actually seemed pretty and cute. Wish she could stay longer in the comic… I felt like I should have posted this somewhere… just… y'know. As well what is interesting is to see how the art style changes from 2003 (creation year) to 2022. I *might* delete this comment anytime soon since I am keeping myself secretly… y'know as well. 'Cause I a have a brother who literally hates them.

I remember being greatly invested in the Brony fandom toward the first half of its existence (I know some don't consider it "furry" media, but I kinda do in retrospect). Kinda fell out of it after season 4, though I did keep tabs on the show a bit, especially through some of the channels I still followed. But in short, as some of them transitioned to generalized furry content, I shifted there as well. Interest was kinda light until 2020, when I actually felt I had spare funds to commission my fursona. Obviously, you don't need to buy art to be considered a furry, but it admittedly made me feel like it was "officially" a furry. Between that and just enjoying the vibes of furry vtubers on Twitch in the last year, it was what got me deeply invested in fandom culture again.

I got a vid of yours reccomended by TH-cam's algorithm and it was interesting, and this one seemed interesting 'cause I thought it would all be about the first question you answered and spent only a little time on. XD Anyways I didn't realize you were the one who made The Fandom! I haven't actually seen it, so I can't really say much about it. I'd definately heard about it, but I'm a bit afraid to. Like, I know some really old furries and I guess I've been in the community around 23 years myself, so anything historical, I'm afraid it would deviate from my memories, and the stories of older furs, you know? That's probably where you got some of that hate from that you mentioned in one of the questions, and I feel for you there. I remember when my bff found out i was a furry. We've known each other for 8 years and just like that he's thrown all of that in the gutter just because he identified furries with zoophilia. I didnt have a life back at school when they found out... I moved schools and i'm still a proud furry. Sure, me and him made up after 3 years but doesn't mean that we talk. We just say ,,hi" whenever see each other and that's it. I think it will be better that way.
Honestly, most people don't have a problem with me being a furry. My close friends and family who I want to know do and don't judge what I do with my time. The most I get is someone being a jerk in the comments. Most people find it really strange that anyone bothered to call me out because most of my comments have nothing to do with furry stuff, it's just my PFP and username. I usually respond with just calling them weirdly judgmental although sometimes I get into internet fights with haters out of boredom. I wouldn't really recommend the latter; it's not worth the time.

My cat, Curly Sue, brought me back from the dead. On the 12th of October, 2002 if I'm not mistaken. Therefore I consider it my second birthday. I had ran away from the universe all together for some time before, and ended up far into the past. When the time came to come back to my body from astral projection, I had already died, Curly Sue, seeing this, ran up to where my mother was trying to revive my vitals... Hissing at my mother, and shooing her away, afterwards Curly Sue our family cat used the cat's kiss; a ritual performed by someone giving of their own soul, for another one to live, usually done by magically strong cats. This stirred up my vitals, her mouth up to mine, light poured into my mouth from hers. The breath in my body restored, and my consciousness back inside, I took the opportunity to thank Curly Sue for what I just saw from the spirit world. That is what my second birthday, the day I was reborn as a Catman, was like.

Anyways I didn't realize you were the one who made The Fandom! I haven't actually seen it, so I can't really say much about it. I'd definately heard about it, but I'm a bit afraid to. Like, I know some really old furries and I guess I've been in the community around 23 years myself, so anything historical, I'm afraid it would deviate from my memories, and the stories of older furs, you know? That's probably where you got some of that hate from that you mentioned in one of the questions, and I feel for you there. There's so much hate thrown around sometimes, but you know we're mostly a really kind and caring community. ^.^

I remember when my bff found out i was a furry. We've known each other for 8 years and just like that he's thrown all of that in the gutter just because he identified furries with zoophilia. I didnt have a life back at school when they found out... I moved schools and i'm still a proud furry. Sure, me and him made up after 3 years but doesn't mean that we talk. We just say ,,hi" whenever see each other and that's it. I think it will be better that way.

Honestly, most people don't have a problem with me being a furry. My close friends and family who I want to know do and don't judge what I do with my time. The most I get is someone being a jerk in the comments. Most people find it really strange that anyone bothered to call me out because most of my comments have nothing to do with furry stuff, it's just my PFP and username. I usually respond with just calling them weirdly judgmental although sometimes I get into internet fights with haters out of boredom. I wouldn't really recommend the latter; it's not worth the time.

The breath in my body restored, and my consciousness back inside, I took the opportunity to thank Curly Sue for what I just saw from the spirit world. It's normal for creators though, I'm never happy with any of my fursuits. Always focusing on details no one else notices. I stopped making for years because I was personally unhappy with them.
