    So I finally found someone with the pacience and the technique to teach me and those interested, the unique drum intro to ´We´re An American Band´. Thank you so much for posting Don!!!

      Seriously? I was doing that in Junior High 😂 Don is what I cut my teeth on. Then Bonzo. But FIRST was Ron Bushy. For you millennials, that's Iron Butterfly's drummer. The one Ringo copied on his Abbey Road drum solo.

    I am not a drummer but am thinking about learning. By showing the notes and playing along beat by beat, you make it a lot easier to understand. I look at drum kits and wonder how the heck you know what to hit when, but you've done a great job of clearing it up.
    btw you're never too old to learn. I'm a woman and will be 50 in the spring.

    How to improvise? Wow...cosmic. That's a hard thing to teach, mate. Everyone does it differently. I guess the key is, the more you know and the more you're able to move between ideas through lots of practice, the better you are at improvising? But then your imagination comes into it as well...a tricky subject to nail indeed!
    Glad you like the T-Shirt! Might be announcing something soon ;)

      you're welcome. I know Don personally and Mel and Marks as well there my buddies. I know it's a shame Marks out but I leave that alone.
      I saw Grand Funk at the Los Angeles Fourn in 1971 - I bought "On time" when I was in the 7th grade and was hooked. Keep doing your videos and don't pay attention to all the knuckleheads. You rock..

  • @rockbandmom

    My kit is a standard 5 piece. I started out with only 2 cymbals, a ride cymbal and a crash, also a hi-hat. As time went on I added more cymbals. Right now I'm pretty happy with my set up. I don't want/need any more cymbals. Yes, they can be expensive. My cymbals cost more than my kit. I have played in 4 bands over the past 5 years. I'm currently in a cover band.

    You're very good at explaining the way Don Brewer was thinking about with substitutions to get back in the groove/pocket.
    I'm a by the ear player and tend to get ;lost in the techniques even though my profession is technical: writing and developing... go figure, but you really lay it out succinctly even though your accent is grating due to my Irish ancestry, LOL

    Wow, you're terrific! It looks like you can just about build your own kit. Some have maybe one crash while others have 3 or 4, which I imagine cost a pretty penny.
    Thanks. Do you play in a band at all?

      When thinking about a career as a professional Drummer consider this classic joke first: What's the difference between a Pizza and a Drummer?A Pizza can feed a Family.(Just a suggestion but of course it's YOUR life).

    The second half with the doubles on the kick.... could this also be considered 5/4 time played in triplets?

    • @DrumsTheWord
      @DrumsTheWord  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      It would technically contain the same number of notes, but no reader or writer would actually notate it that way.
