Just discovered your channel & im SOLD! 😃 Your joy is infectious & that alone would get my attention but the way your so transparent with your success and failure is AWSOME! So encouraging! Thanks for sharing your creativity! Blessings
Honestly, mistakes help us learn many valuable lessons. I learn from my own as well as others. Love the mold. I did the same thing ... Made a mold that didn't turn out right. So I cut it up into small chunks and saved it to use when making another mold. I was able to use less new silicone, and everything came out great! I will be extra careful now when using pigments. Have an awesome evening! Hi to George. 💓
I’m new to Resin, Jesminite, and mold making! I love the fact that you are so brave! I’ve waited too long to begin my journey in this craft, thank you a million times over for your attitude and your fun way of overcoming the bad results of any of the projects. You do make me feel confident in making mistakes. And happy in the good things I will make.❤ Thank you so very much.
I’m still not brave enough to make my own moulds yet. I have done small things with moulding putty but that’s all so far. Plus it’s a big expense when on a very limited budget. I live vicariously through you and Wendy. 😂
I tend to work in various crafts. I make jewelry, flip furniture, repurpose items, sew, etc. When some decorative trim is missing on furniture (or in my home), I use a hot glue gun to create a mold of intact trim. I fill the mold with Bondo and create replacement trim. When hardware is missing I also make hot glue replacement knobs. I make hot glue molds to create unique jewelry components - finials on top of lamps often make beautiful earrings and necklaces. I have used hot glue to make numerous molds. If this idea appeals to you maybe check ebay for bulk glue stick listings. I use a lot of hot glue. I am on a fixed income so my eye is always on the budget. Even before retirement I enjoyed searching for deals and unusual ways to stretch a dollar. (With the price of eggs I was happy to discover applesauce is an acceptable substitute when baking. So far no one has noticed. I Google'd it to discover that nugget.)
This is how all my projects go. lol. You did well, you kept going. I like the mold. It made a cute tray. Use a little less pigment and make another. It will come out even better. Thanks for making this video. I have a similar tray and I might give it a go.
Lovely tray..don't be so hard on yourself bc your work is great and you constantly take risks in hopes to help someone else so you can never go wrong❤️❤️❤️
Claire, this is a great little tray, in spite of the setbacks! It's quite pretty! 😊❤ I've an idea in using Let's Resin mold housing. What if you used it, but for one of the long sides (& maybe a short side, too?), then placed one or two internal walls using the foam board and hot gluing it onto the housing? That would cut down on how much silicone used, & may be less fiddly for you?
This is so cute. Thanks for sharing even when things don’t go the way we hope they would. It’s a good lesson we all will learn from so thank you for that. ❤
Hey Claire, I know as a let's resin embassador you probably need to do it this way but if you go on Liadia design's TH-cam page, she used those make-up storage trays or drawers made of plexiglass or whatever you call it as housing and it worked a treat xx
Hi Claire 👋 I missed your live , had to take one of my fur babies to the vet , he cut his paw when we went for a walk . Have to take him to vets again in the morning for stiches. Loved your video , the tray is beautiful 😍 ❤ ♥ ❤
Love this video, I’ve made my own moulds and it takes some working out, I’ve made some successful pot moulds but recently tried to make an egg mould but didn’t give a thought to the thickness of the walls. The mould was ok but when I cast it, the egg I was making just broke like an egg shell. I laughed out loud in my cabin that the neighbours must have heard me! Doh! Must think harder next time! Thank you Claire, you inspire me greatly 😊
I bet that mold would look great with a white and red marble jesmonite mix poured in it. The original was stone like and matte so it's imperfections are not noticed as much with a marble stone like design.
this tray would look nice with a heart druzy effect with this amazing red. i have made a few trays with gold and silver foil (claire made me do it) along with making a rabbit mould/resin piece. The tray turned out amazing
I think the mould looks almost as amazing cured as it did while pouring and the tray is really cute! Maybe it doesn't matter that it's matt either. Wendy at Toonpish made casts from the same mould in both a matt and a glossy finish a few weeks ago and the matt version looked amazing.
I still can’t wrap my head around actually making the mould. It’s weird my mind can’t work in 3d for some reason so I’d never be able to work this out. But this is so cute, perfect for valentines day!
I liked the texture; it gave it sort of an “industrial” look. But then the end result was terrific! I _know_ you’re a jesmonite girl, but how gorgeous would this be in resin with origami paper and a bottom layer of coordinating glitter?!
Hey Claire, I'm excited to see someone else use there chunky leftover silicone in their molds! I do it all the time. With the mold kit from Lets Resin, I have found if it's to big, I can add a couple of pieces on the inside as well to make it smaller. I will send you a picture in Instagram.
I had a mold a friend brought from UK to USA. It wasn't really a mold - but held small chocolates in shape of traditional Northwest Clogs. Years ago I made plaster pins for my Morris team. I can't find it in all my craft supplies - I might have to take my little pin and make a mold. Then make several resin clogs so I can make another mold of several clogs at once. I really want to find my old "mold" rather than make new molds
Hi Claire IAM new to your channel but I was watching the one when you were using Das air drying clay well I try it and found out whit it had dried out fully I could use felt pens on it to colour bits off it in that you would like I've not tried it on the home made clay yet but not tried any paints on it I hope you don't mind me letting you know that you can try this
Hi Claire-great as always 😊 hey could I ask how much silicon mixture you ended up using please? I’m always unsure whether to try making my own moulds because I haven’t a clue how to guesstimate the quantities at all! Thanks so much 👍🏻
Hey sorry to interject here! After securing the master item in the mould housing, you can pour water into the mould box, then pour it out carefully into a jug to give you an accurately measured quantity of silicone to mix. Just let the mould and item dry thoroughly again before you start mixing up! :)
@@Helter-Skelterz oh hey that’s great thank you…I was just wondering on an estimate so I could work out what sized silicon kit to buy. This will work tho thanks!
@@jenniepoyser2600 No problem! I like to mark all my moulds with the volume needed after the first pour too, so I've got it exactly to hand next time I cast with it. I wish I was as organised in other areas of my life, honestly 😂
@@jenniepoyser2600 So true. I also, like Claire mentioned here, colour my moulds by type so that they're easier to sort. I'm sure it's something to do with being a visual thinker! 😊

No not perfect...I personally love shiny. I molded things at first not realizing they were dating or matte.. errrr now I only mold things perfectly shiny. You can easily make thing matte from shinny. But going matte to shiny loads harder to do. I adore making molds and inlays. I am not good enough to sell them but it is addicting. I have always added old worn out molds cut up to my new poured molds. Love not wasting things. It does save by doing that. Plus keeps old silicone out of the trash. I have even cut up cheap molds that are not soft and moist. 8 put thin layer in first let cure then add chunks and fill up remainder of mold. I have got silicone kitchen utensils and silicone hot pads that I have cut up and used in molds also. Silicone sticks to silicone. Make sure you wash well with Greece cutting soap and let dry thoroughly but still works. Sorry I got so long with chatter but wanted to give you things I have learned. hugs my friend loving your videos...Sheryl from Greenwood Indiana 💙🎨💙

I think it looks great and it was cool that you could use that left over silicone.
Claire, if you want shiny molds, spray the tray (or whatever item you want to mold) with clear varnish first.
I was coming here to say just this :) You beat me to it!

What a journey?!! As you always say, hand made with love, not perfection. I love the colours and the way it turned out.

you actually sanded 😱 and the result was so sweet. Loved the video 💕 that red was so gorgeous ❤🔥

If you shred or grate the old silicone it will not float to the top like the big chunks did. You still did a great job

This is a very sweet little tray, I love the hearts, but I can't even imagine the mess I'd make trying to pipe them! Thank you for sharing.
I do the same with waste bits of resin for deeper items so i use less fresh mixed resin in some things😊
Hi Claire, I really did feel for you as you sounded so heart broken but Claire, keep your chin up keep smiling & the world Will smile with you 👍❤️🙂
