Never been too impressed with Vortex. I have a couple of Arken’s and I’m about to get the Athlon Talos 10x42 that you reviewed, for my Mossberg MVP Patrol .308
You can get these other scopes and that will solve one problem of having an unpopular scope. Then, find a group of guys to hate you for having Mossberg. How do I know? I have 4 Mossbergs, including the MVP LR308 Thunder Ranch in Kuiu Camo (similar to the MVP Patrol.) And some Vortex optics. I still find Joe entertaining and his videos make me think and question many things. I also have some Arkens and they are nice except for the slipping turrets. You need thread locker for those. Vibra Tite VC 3 is recommended for those.
I can vouch for the Athlon 6-24X50 Midas Tac, it's a really nice scope, I got the APL4 MOA reticle and I dig it. Paid $550 from Midway a year ago, they're on sale right now for like $357 shipped.
If Vortex ever implements a Strike Eagle buy back program I sure hope I can participate. While we are at it let's throw Burris in there also with their XTR II series.
I also tried the very same scope…I ended up sending it back and bought a mtc copperhead, less magnification but built solid and stopped perfectly on the turret.a little stiff but it was half the price and superior do the trade-off was good.
Thanks for honest review Joe and its good to see Vortex getting their shit together! Ive had a 5-25 Strike Eagle since they were released, purchased direct from Vortex. I must have gotten a golden child, because I didnt see the same issues as you on your first review. I also have seen first hand issues with the scope holding up under recoil, so I put mine on my 308 AR-10 as they tend to be a little harder on scopes, and mine has also held up there as well. I do agree with you, they do wash out at high magnification, especially in bright sunlight, and the sunshade is only minimal help. The clicks on mine are not as audible as this new one is. I do like the locking caps. All that being said? The Arken 5-25 smokes it. The Arken 5-25 is almost as good as my 5-25 PST Gen 2 for half the money, with the PST having just slightly better glass at 25x and at longer ranges being just a bit clearer. Ive actually been hold out hope Vortex makes a 2-10 Strike Eagle much in the same vein as the 2-10 PST Gen2 which is a fantastic scope, but would be better for hunting with the locking caps, and would come in at a lower price point. 2-10 is a great magnification point for a hunting gun, and more than good enough for a 200-300 yards that most people see.
Biggest positive i found with the strike eagle was the eyebox was pretty forgiving, more so than the Arken's. That said, the glass in them goes to shit as soon as you're in low light... I ended up selling mine for that very reason.
People stop buying Chinese. Vortex has three lines, China, Philippines, and Japan/American. A lot of scope companies do this. I'd much rather buy from the Philippines than China. And obviously Japanese glass is dang near the best.
Hey Cyclops, you've just gained a new subscriber. Great content and honest reviews. I just recently purchased a new rifle that came with a Burris black diamond 4-16x50mm. Im fairly new to scopes and would like to know if its a quality scope worth keeping or should I upgrade being that its pretty outdated.
Just sent back a Vortex Golden Eagle had a stacking and tracking problem. This is the second time for the same problem. i told them i'm done with it and they actually offered me a refund $2K and i took it and bought a NF Competition. The Golden Eagle was the Biggest POS i have ever owned. I own 3-NF and 1- March and 1-Sightron F class scopes and all have been good scopes but the 2 vortex scopes i have had are shite Viper FFP pst first gen reticle is too large and doesn't track well and the Golden Eagle. I have 5 Riton Conquer scopes and they are way better than the Vortex scopes i have had. From now on NF all the way baby.
One problem by buying Chinese scopes your feeding their military industrial complex albeit cost if you stop buying them the other venues of production pricing will go down if they want to stay in business. Lastly not one scope reviewer addresses glass quality with any standard. All you hear are subjective opinions. Higher prices it's assumed the glass is better. The only way to tell is to use industry or government resolution charts at maximum and minimum powers at say 100 yards. Also use a light meter with the scope focused on a white sheet and see what the brightness is compared to the light meters reading looking directly at that sheet. Mechanically most scopes are as close enough for repeatabilty etc. But the true value we supposedly pay for is lens quality which should be tested extensively to some standards.
Is the March scope 1.5-15x42 good to go for a compact scope? GPO will never get their super compacts out, so I’ve found a buy on this scope for$ 2035.00. Ready to just get this gun scoped. Q Fix 6.8 blackout with 8 inch suppressed barrel. The Valdada mini is just too long at 13.4 inches.
I need a scope for my ruger ar 10. The only scope I have used in the last 3 years is my leupold 45x on my br rifle. In your opinion for less than 500 to 1k. Best glass for target and shtf situation. Thanks
Joe, I really appreciate your videos man. Great sense of humor. Fuck man, I’ll just watch it shit just to get a laugh. Keep up the good work. I do have a question though… I’m on the market for a really nice scope to put on my new Nosler 21. I want something that I can pass down to my son that he will be proud of.. What is ur best of the best hunting scope for right around 2,000-2,500 dollars. Thanks man
Man I wish I could help man . Bb it honestly that's outside my wheelhouse . Check out the Dark Lord of optics , and CDOES here . They do videos on them
I have 5 Vortex Razors and like them a lot and 2 Vipers I also like. But I wouldn't want to drop below a Viper in quality. My favorite scope is my ZCO 840 which is as it should be at its price.
Vortex is mediocre. A friend of mine has the razor gen 3 6-36 and it was just blah. That’s their premier flagship scope. I finger fucked the 1-10 and it is just mediocre as well. I can only imagine how shitty the cheaper ones are. I will just stick to Nightforce, Leupold and Schmidt and Bender. Fuck, even the PLX line from primary arms is much better than the shitters Vortex puts out. Now their range finder is pretty nifty considering I don’t feel like dropping 10k on that Wilcox Raptar.
An honest review and that’s why I’m here. While Vortex may not appreciate these videos, I do. Thanks Joe !
Love the candidness of the review. Thanks for an honest take on the subject
Any time!

This guy is fun to listen to and has great info.
Thanks Joe. 😀👍
As always, good solid no bs scope info.
The Arken EPL4 6-24x50 at $330 is WAY ahead even in performance regardless of the price.
I've owned 3 new Vortex products. Sent 2 back.
If Vortex ever implements a Strike Eagle buy back program I sure hope I can participate. While we are at it let's throw Burris in there also with their XTR II series.
Love your honesty Big Joe 👍🏻🇺🇸
Great review Joe, I would never ask you " does my hair look okay "
For the money and what you get, the strike eagle is a good deal, in my opinion.
I'll stick to my Arken scopes
Thanks for another honest review!
Always!
Thanks again for the info and you always save me money 💰
No problem 👍
Wow, I just wanted to see that video. Great timing.
That's a lot of play in the turrets for a supposed precision scope. All the haze in the glass makes a paper weight
I also tried the very same scope…I ended up sending it back and bought a mtc copperhead, less magnification but built solid and stopped perfectly on the turret.a little stiff but it was half the price and superior do the trade-off was good.

Have one of these, no regrets, especially for the money. But Ive had it since they came out. If I was doing it today, I'd do the Viper HD...
Biggest positive i found with the strike eagle was the eyebox was pretty forgiving, more so than the Arken's. That said, the glass in them goes to shit as soon as you're in low light... I ended up selling mine for that very reason.

Great review, Joe!
Great job, Tex!

Look at the price of the scope and compare to other brands of the same value…I mean price. No comparison.
Yep stop buying the chinese crap, Ford, Chevy, Dodge, Vortex, and many more. These corporations sold us out looooong ago....
It's just Beige, that's funny!😅❤❤❤
Looks awesome big guy! Thanks for the informative video!
I just bought Vortex HD spotting scope. Hope I have no issues 🎉🎉🎉
Nice one Big Joe!

“It’s kinda beige…”
LMAO! 🤣
my ep5 gets cloudy like that when i go above 20x
I have one on my 308. It's decent. Nothing to write home about. I plan on replacing it with the new arken 7x35 when it's available
Joe had a code for that scope a week or two ago.
Good review thanks!
Thanks for watching
I thought mine was ace until I got the Delta …. Nuff said buddy 👍

Sounds like you need to start a channel and test away
Joe they will have to up their game a lot more before I buy one!! I think they got into Quantity instead of Quality They lost me a long time ago !
Great review Joe, can i ask if the discounts you offer apply in the UK?
old arken sh4 gen2 or new vortex strike eagle joe? and as always spot on review!
I have the same scope and I don’t have the foggy issue you’re seeing. Looks like condensation maybe?
Love the thumbnail 😅😊
Could you review the latest scopes falcon have released they’ve done some major updates since your S18 review

I'll just stick to my Zeiss V6 scopes.
I have one. It’s ok.
Aiwa 😘💕👍👍
I’ve never been a fan of Vortex. Their top tier line may be good but they can’t compete at the entry and mid range scopes.
Bought one two days later took it BACK Bought a nightforce
So you bought a 600 dollar ish scope then returned it about bought a scope that runs up to 3700 . Yea ok , two totally different beasts but ok.
No shitt
I know for the price that there are much better scopes out there
Yep
Hi you need to try Stainer Ranger 4:) its bed ass in 1000 €😊
Arken sucks as does there warranty
You’re gonna get the poors mad at you talking bad about arken.
@@stevennewman4778 exactly. I was gona say arken lovers can’t afford good vortex 😂😂😂
Afghanistan.. thats it on this one.
Those adjustment dials would fail the nipple twister test. That scope is way over priced junk.

Oh yeah Bortex again LMAO again. Pop that zit and just say nooooo Joe.
This or arken ep5?
The turrets are dancing when turned ,look like a cheap scope
Just buy an Arken.
Well said
I put this shit on my pellet gun couldnt hit a damm thing
haha you can't blame the scope for everything. That being said. Scopes don't like springers.
The key with any scope line is to avoid the bottom end stuff, cheap is cheap no two ways about it! Don't buy chinese shit either!!!
Still a pc of junk does not hold true sent back 2 times finally just got my money back be the damn last vortex i will ever buy
The Vortex Movement ….
(In the cultural sense, not mechanical)
I’m sure it’s a decent buy.
(I won’t rant)
#ARKEN
