Don’t let them fool you with all those black and white photos of that era, cameras were very much in color but they make the photos black and white to make it seem like it was longer ago than it was
+ImWhereImAt Yup and it was all in good fun. I think the farm in the first part of the video was Otis' actual farm and he liked to spend his little bits of off-time there living the simple life with his family... the flashy stuff was just for show biz.
He’s one of my GOATS. Definitely would’ve been a household name today if his life wasn’t cut so tragically short. He finally had the freedom to make the kind of music he wanted, and he never got to see the success of “Sitting On the Dock of the Bay”.
Probably not. Before Otis died, Jim Stewart of STAX signed a horrible contract with Jerry Wexler of Atlantic. Jim, being a Southern Man, was going to do a handshake deal, but Jerry wanted it legalized. So he drew up a contract, and Jim signed it without reading it. The contract said that he was basically signing over all of STAX’S catalog to Atlantic for them to distribute and for them to keep forever. It was truly the worst contract of mankind, and Otis probably didn’t even know that Jim signed that deal. After Otis died, Atlantic wanted the masters of Dock of the Bay and all of his other work, and that’s when Jim realized his awful mistake
"I can buy you Mink, rat, frog, squirrel, rabbit anything you want woman". "EUUUUUUUUU I'M A LOVER , my mama was, my papa too". Tramp poetry at it finest. HAHAHA absolutely love it..... Love Otis and Carla to.

Love this video.Otis Redding gave us great music. But he also gave a fantastic legacy most of all to his wife and children. He was a smart business man.Started a summer camp for under privelege children.Made his money work for him.Rest in Power and Love.Otis Redding
This is astonishing. I have never seen it before tonight, and I have loved Otis Redding since I was six. I estimate that I have sung My Lover's Prayer, Chained and Bound, Pain in My Heart, Dreams to Remember, and especially I've Been Loving You Too Long (to stop now) 10,000 times easch. Loving You Too Long maybe 100,000 times. In the 20th century, only the Beatles topped Otis Redding, and had he not been cut short, he might've topped them, over time. He is plainly and unquestionably the greatest American recording artist ever. An immeasurable, incalculable loss to America and the world. We are left with dreams to remember, of you.
I can’t believe I have never seen this video before! It’s so good and Otis Redding was so young and good looking and talented. How sad it ended how it did but we still have his music. I’m still listening in 2024 ❤️
I'm sure Otis Redding would have still been successful and a blessing to the music world had he'd lived. His passing was a great loss. Loved his performance at the Monterey Pop Festival in June 1967. RIP Otis. Thanks for the memories.

howdy people, believe it or not i am here for the weekend ,pouring rain ,hate the rain but i am entertaing myself to day ,and i have went back to the sixties and digging them soul deep ,love this one
*When I saw that plane it shook me too. They shouldn't have flown that December night in Wisconsin:/ The weather was bad an it was snowing. Best part when Otis showed all the businesses he started with Phil Walden, Otis was like Ray Charles and Sam Cooke; They were business men an entertainers.*
Actually, that is NOT the plane he died in. The plane he died in was a Beechcraft 18; not a chance that this little plane is housing 9 people, pilot included.
Remember this video being shown on TOTP back in the day It still looks pretty cool There has never been anyone who sounds remotely like Otis with that pure soulful voice
Good Afternoon You're speaking facts. I remember hearing Salt-N-Pepa's version when I was in high school and I had no idea that they sampled this song until I listened to my grandmother's Otis Redding's Compilation CD and I nearly went through he ceiling when I heard Otis and Carla's version.
Wow, this video of Otis Redding is so good, I am glad you posted it thank you. To see him like this riding that donkey and farming is awesome, this is going on my Playlist. I am such a big fan of him, we love you Otis.
Lawd have mercy. this vid is priceless. My mind was twisted for a minute I was thinking he was alive, so used to seeing Otis singing. Here he just being an ordinary man living his life.
I love how u address ur label, Otis Redding, showing them u clearly don't need them. that's fair. I dont like how they replied, that *wasn’t*. to say the least. May you rest in peace, In Christ, Otis Redding, In Jesus, Amen and Hallelujah. Thank you for the "Dock of the bay", which they didn't even change in the end, they kept your whistling at the end, the same they didnt like in the first place. They saw u stood ur ground. They just couldn't have u be doing ur own thing or anyone. A very powerful black man in the 60"s who died.. accidentally... while disagreeing with his label on his second album, the dock of the bay, a man who *clearly* could do it without them at the time, having his own record, label, private jet, cash... 1967, the year he died.. . .... ..... . ...... . ... . Do u see it ?
Ottis your only gone body but left you us you’re left your name and legacy that will last a life time and forever in ours minds may your soul rips 🎤💐💕❤️
I know Lowell Fulsom did the original (and a classic in it's own right) but Otis and Carla and the Stax record crew owned this tune.Excellent soul classic.Great!
This is proof to show that in the time of Jim Crow era back then , he can still be a very successful 💡📚🎤 business black man . R.I.P. Otis Redding 🙇🏾♀️💞💖
Yes, definitely, all of those things. He exudes positivity, joy, and the fire of life. If you have never seen it I recommend the Fa fa fa sad song b&w video. The only thing that gets to me about this footage is seeing that plane.

Genius doesn't even begin to describe this man. Wish I could give this video 10,000 thumbs up. RIP Otis...

I sincerely consider this Song a Spiritual. ❤🔥🌎
How rare it is to see a quality color video made in 1967... RIP Otis.
That is Surreal 😱
It's music. Don't bother with the labelling. Do you like it or not, that's all that matters
@Nik Mok It's some of both no doubt

Now that's the original form of swag right there. Otis in his green suit, his little dance moves, showing off his cars and his plane
+ImWhereImAt Yup and it was all in good fun. I think the farm in the first part of the video was Otis' actual farm and he liked to spend his little bits of off-time there living the simple life with his family... the flashy stuff was just for show biz.
I'm wondering whether the plane shown is the one James Brown warned him about to get rid of because it would kill him?
@@PalaniRides No. The plane that crashed was a Beechcraft H18. It was a much larger aircraft.
@@PalaniRides The plane to small to be the one he died on but James had a plane as well.
26 year old black legend who owned his own music. Lord knows what could’ve been.

If Otis were alive today, there's a very good chance he would still own the rights to all of his music. G.O.A.T!

Great song...Otis looks like he had some fun making this. Would've been cool to see him and Carla "act it out" on video. Thanks for posting!

And still is in 2023 and to infinity Big O lives on!!!!!

Kind of eerie to see him showing off his little plain, but man what a great person he seemed to be...also a great sense of humor.

Thats not the the plane that they perished in. He had a beechcraft H 18. Is a much bigger than that little cessna.
