Diana, after finding your chanel I've started a return journey to my own style. I went through things that led me to try to live under the radar, as you said. The way I was dressing was a manifestation of this feeling. But that is not my place. God bless you for bringing color, freedom and fun back!
What matters is integrity, good manners, kindness and with this one naturally has class. Yes, new money or old, who cares. Trashy people have money and live trashy lives. It’s not money that gives one class, integrity or style but character. Well breeding isn’t a rich thing. You were well bred and taught either rich or poor. My grandmother always said, “Even the poor can of afford a bar of soap.” Meaning there is no reason to not clean yourself up. Dress properly and classy.
Idk, I think Lilly Pulitzer dresses and Nantucket Reds pants & shorts prove old money loves bright colors, they’re simply more careful about appropriate timing. This is something those TikTok accounts don’t understand. But I’m with you on personal style mattering more.
I like the black flats you’re wearing with the big polka dot dress. But not WITH the big polka dot dress. They seem a little heavy. But that’s just me!
I think from a style standpoint I wouldn't pick them either, but from a personal standpoint, I like them because this looks almost like a flamenco dancer outfit which I think is fun, and they're so walkable. I really wish I could dance like a flamenco dancer, so I'll just pretend!

I think people mistake the way old money dresses because they only see these people at events, in their classic dresses and pearls. Most of the aristocrats I’ve known will dress the way you’ve described at formal events, but are fearlessly quirky elsewhere. For instance, the grandson of a famous British general I knew would wear his grandfather’s cavalry boots and greatcoat to nightclubs. Full disclosure here - my father was a knight, and my mother head of a clan (the old Pictish ones that passed down via the distaff side). I rarely dress the old money way - partly because I’ve known extreme poverty - but it comes out in odd ways. I wear all sorts of colourful clothes - but I can’t bring myself to wear logos, graphic tees or animal print. I don’t want to, though I no longer judge people who do. Sadly I used to.
I loved all of those looks on you 😍. I would personally be more inclined to the boring old money style, but only because I lack the confidence to be more bold in my choices. I am not a fan of all the logos on clothing, it is too desperate for attention.
The old money looks are easy and look great. Nothing wrong with choosing those. If you're not obsessed with patterns and colors like me, it's definitely the safest way to go!
