Hi cruise, Have you ever thought of doing a "commuting by E-bike". SUPER Fast and less sweaty XD It would be really cool to have a head to head battle between MTB - ROAD - E-bike Comparing Speed - Comfort - Sweat (by weighing your clothes before and after the ride)
Could you do a video about your camera setup for your commute? Do you like to use the chest mount, handlebar mount, saddle mount, etc to get different angles. How many cameras do you use?
I'd definitely recommend getting something like a PitLock for wheels and maybe saddle if it's expensive. You can then ditch the cable lock and it saves you time locking up.
The fender thing gave me a laugh…the dreaded “freshman stripe” back in college. 😂 Valuable info even though I’m watching this for the first time in 2022! Really appreciate the info and your channel in general!
I've done some long bike rides without tools, extra tubes and lucked out by not getting Into trouble . after your video I,m going to invest in some of those items. You are one Great talker . I have a silver mountain bike I put silver chrome fenders on it. Not only Does it keep water from flying ,but it makes the bike look cool ! Lets gooo safely !
I ride about 16km a day ,it helps to have flat peddles , I have a aluminium, tcr, it's a cheap , relatively fast , light bike, I don't even carry anything, if I get stuck I'll just walk it home. But if you want a small saddle bag with co2 and a spare tube, that's will help , I also have a bike light , for when it gets dark , tail light is also good and water if you really pushing it
I had a multi-tool that was almost as small as a big coin. On a bike trip to Ireland it got confiscated at the airport. My most important "tool" added lately is a Garmin Varia rearview radar, but i still have a mirror on the drop end. I go as light as possible with my bags, but still manage to carry a bunch of stuff (pump, tool, patch kit, rash kit, phone, tube, id, some money). Weighs about a pound.
I really like the Uniche ratchet tool that you showcased. I have other ratchet tools but their handles are too small so you don't get much leverage/torque. The Uniche tool looks like the handle is hefty enough to provide a good grip and torque. I'm going to look into purchasing one right now.
Is the u-lock stand a bit diagonal? I did buy a u-lock, but it gets on the way of the bottle if I try to put normally. I thought about putting the stand in a different way, but it might get in the way of my legs. Though overall here in Japan it might be a bit excessive. What I do (the cable that came with the u-lock, plus another descent password cable) for when I park in front of a store is probably still excessive, though I will probably keep looking like this for now. Cycling with the u-lock is added weight I definitely don't need on my 40km+ rides. I am sort of forced to use an outside parking lot for now, so for the nights I do use the u-lock too.
Hey cruise, why not opt for the airless tires on the commuter? That seems like the ultimate in reliable, worry-free tires. No pumps, no tubes, no patches, etc.
I am buying a new bike this week and I am down to 2 choices; A Nukeproof Scout 290 (from Wiggle) or On-One Scandal (From PlanetX), I was just wondering if you had any promo codes for PlanetX to help me out. Cool rear light, it acts like a brake light? I look forward to the review.
That Uniche tool looks awesome! Thanks I will check it out. I always love clever tools. I have a similar tool now but it's kind of in a rollup cloth and I am always losing the bits.
The Uniche tool looks good, nice design. But they don't seem to be available in Europe. On commuting bags, my absolute favourite is the Ortlieb Vario, you can use it easily on a rack or convert it within a few seconds to a backpack, its great for day rides and hike-bike trips.
I also have a convertible backpack pannier.. From Two Wheel Gear. The one that retails for $179usd. Not the smaller one that is $159. Just picked up a Mammoth Empire roll top backpack pannier... (because I wanted a second smaller bag, that was more affordable)
3 things Context - I keep my bike in a bike shed during work in a semi-secure car park. "Cars need a pass to get in but pedestrians can just walk-in" 1 - I keep my pump + lights on my bike. Reason - If my bike gets stolen I won't need the lights or pump anymore XD 2 - I keep my Lock on the bike-post at work instead of carrying it on the bike anymore 3 - Have you ever thought of getting a pannier rack ? I use to commute with a bag and found that the sweat on my back + the extra weight was always bothering me. An extra tip I do, for those who have storage at work. Keep spare tools at work rather than always carrying them. Spare tubes, more tools spare pump etc I just keep a bare minimum during the commute
Saw the Schwinn Madison with the crowned fork and that (original?) paint job and clicked the video immediately. Edit: I didn't realize how recently Schwinn was still producing these
What would you recommend for mounting the action cam? On the bike on your body or on your helmet? Here are my thoughts: On the bike: needs DiCi mount. Stable, but shaky footage. On your body: need to buy some vest or strap to hold it in place. Steady footage (i suppose)…🤔 On the helmet: need to buy some sort of strap to hold it in place, maybe not so shaky and will see similar to your field of view. You look funny.😅 What do you think? Will using it for bike commute (same distance as yours ~40k 2-way)
@@TwoWheelCruise I've always used metal tire levers, and I've never had a problem. (But I've never had carbon rims.) Some of the plastic tire levers break too easily, so I don't trust them.
Ur def. Of huge fits under my def. Of small 😂 I commute with a 40lt NorthFace backpack; I am far from practical for that, because I hate to leave things attaches to the bike....😅
Your videos are really nice and highly appreciate your work. I am currently living in Kyoto. What kind of a bike do you recommend me to buy as a student and use it in a regular basis
You should try putting a sealant in ur inner tube to prevent tyre puncture. I used sealant to fix tyre punctures in my tubular and u can also use it to fix inner tube puncture.
Great channel, and great vid, as always.. Has anyone ever told you, you look like a young Peter Weller (actor from Robocop)? This is a compliment ;-) Keep up the good work - I travel to Okayama sometimes to see family, and hope to check out the railway track ride you did recently. Will try it when the world is less crazy, and we can travel again. All the best.
@@TwoWheelCruise Ask the wifey - see what she thinks. ;-) Have you watched the British guy' "abroad in Japan", more specifically his bike series "Journey across Japan"? Interesting.
Definitely my favorite Bike! I have a 2007 schwinn Madison. They Are the most reliable and the Simplicity is great just get on and ride no worries. Also very cool ratchet tool. Have you upgraded anything on your Madison?
The only time I used a bell, it ended up in my only time falling of a bike: the pedestrians moved out of my way, right to where I was going to move away from them, so I had to make a sharp turn to not ride into them. I was very lucky and fell on grass, but I still got an injured knee which kept me from riding my bike for at least a week.
I think shimano make a nut for the axle, instead of 15mm wrench key it's also can be use with 6mm allen key. This is a very good topic especially if you want to minimize the tool you have to minimize the parts of the bike as well. In my case I try to have less variety of bolts/nuts that attach in my bike. For now only use 3mm,4mm,5mm,T25 for most of the bolts.
I would love to see a multitool maker offer a "build your tool" option. Some of my bikes don't need many tools. Others need just about every size except torx. (I'm still in the dark ages... none of my bikes are disc....haha)
Tubeless is great, until something goes wrong. Then you must be very careful about where liquid rubber (sealant) goes. I had a leak, spun my tire and i still have it on my bike frame. Thank god i wasnt inside.
For a bag, I love my Two Wheel Gear convertible plus. Converts between a backpack and pannier pretty quick and comes with a rain fly. Also just picked up a much more affordable convertible backpack pannier from Amazon. Haven't been able to use it yet, so jury's still out...hahaha
@@TwoWheelCruise they are awesome. I can use like a normal backpack if I want.... or as a rack mounted pannier. I also have the ibera pakrak and it's matching quick release trunk bag.
Agreed. I put out some watts one time going home and my chain snapped. Luckily I was only about 2 miles away and could kinda just bike it home. Been carrying around quick links on my keys since.
Not really accepted in most of America either. Bicycles aren't seen as a transportation option. Mainly only for recreation or even worse.... "toys". It's also the whole "me me me" culture where no one else's life or whatever matters. God forbid you have to wait a minute or two TO SAFELY pass me... but they're OK with waiting for hours and hours in traffic.
I put a rack on the ones I would be most likely to use for errands n stuff. However my fixed gear stays as simple as possible. Only things on it are a bottle cage, mini frame pump mount, wahoo rflkt mount and the front brake.

At least you were prepared ;)
You brought your phone that's all the tools you need XD
One day it was raining when I got a flat and I didn't feel like fixing it so I rode the rim home lol
I relayed this story to my wife, and she told me if I ever get in a jam out there, I too could call your family for help 😂
