    Tim Richmond born June 7th same as myself. I know Tim would have taken a few Championships away from Dale Sr. had he not come down with AIDS. 1986 Tim's Winning streak was amazing! God only knows how Good (Rick Hendrick backed) Harry & Tim combo would have been? I for one would have Loved to the Tim & Dale Sr. Showdown @ all the NASCAR TRACKS 👍😎🍻

    Wow! Brings back memories. I have a front fender from that very car from the 83' spring race at Darlington where Tim Richmond and Earnhardt wrecked in what was then turn three. My neighbor got the Wrangler fender from the same wreck but let it get rusted and threw it away. I still have mine. BTW, My man Handsome Harry Gant won that race. It was his 1st of 4 Darlington wins. SKOAL BANDIT!

    Back when the CAR in NASCAR could actually be associated with what was on the track. I was fortunate enough to grow up while, for a few years still at least, you could walk into the dealership on Monday and buy the street version of the car that won on Sunday. Now they're all stamped, erector sets, that more resemble the space shuttle than a car.

      ya he spread aids as fast as trump spread his virus

    • @CamaroAmx
      @CamaroAmx 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@johnnystek6900 not true. There is no evidence that Tim had sex after his diagnosis, however you can have AIDS for 2-3 years before you start showing symptoms. So it is very possible that Tim spread it without knowing it.

    • @CamaroAmx
      @CamaroAmx 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Tim failed his first drug test (later redacted when it was discovered that it was a false positive caused by over the counter cold medicine), he then took a second test a few days later and passed but by that point he had no chance of getting a ride in the Daytona 500. Then nascar demanded that Tim had over his medical records, which Tim refused. It would shown that he had been diagnosed with AIDS and based on the stigma AIDS had back then, nascar would of never let him race, nor would he be able to race in any other series of motor sports (he had actually planned on going drag racing after his nascar career was done). Tim sued nascar and won an out of court settlement, but by the time all that was over, his health wasn’t up to snuff to do any racing.
      Interestingly when Tim was admitted into the hospital for the final time, it was acknowledged by the announcers of that weekend’s cup race that Tim was in the hospital and in bad shape. However they claimed it was due to a motorcycle accident (by that point there is no way that Tim would have had the strength to ride a motorcycle). He died 2 months later. His death was acknowledged by nascar but the cause was not announced by nascar. It wasn’t until 2 weeks later when Tim’s family made the announcement that Tim had died of AIDS that the general public had any clue that he had aids. On a slightly positive note the announcement that Tim died of aids woke up nascar to a point and nearly every person involved in nascar got tested for aids of their own accord. Their opinions of Tim also drastically changed as well once they realized what Tim had been dealing with. Tim is now listed among the Top 50 nascar drivers of all time.

      @@CamaroAmx NASCAR lied and set Tim up, that doctor falsified his drug test results and that little shmuck what's his names son went along with it and lied to the media. NASCAR was doing everything they could do to sabotage Tim because they did not want someone with AIDS being associated with NASCAR, they were going to make sure he didn't race any more no matter what. Bastards.

    The car is a 1981. They didn't build them after that, but NASCAR let them run it. Tim Richmond drove it until 1985, moving over to Hendrick for 1986. I remember Richmond driving this car. Rusty Wallace replaced him and eventually took the team to the championship. Motorcraft may have been a NASCAR sponsor were you got money if you ran the sticker and the car won.

      Great question. Motorcraft on GM product? Now sponsors have a sh*t fit on that one . Wonderful interview with John Dodson.
      3 cars & 6 team members for the whole year!!! That was back when racing was a fun sport & not so much Business as it is today. Got a kick out of 100 pd helmet they used. Jr. Johnson pretty famous too on 200+ pd lead weights mounted on inside of each tire rim's for there 1st run then pit for much lighter tire rims.

Petty Would not run the Busch Beer sticker I believe because his Mom Did Not approve Of Drinking-I think. This kept Richard Out Of the Busch Clashes He would have Been Eligible For!

      I'm pretty sure it's because Raymond Beadle's Blue Max Ford EXP funny car was sponsored by Motorcraft, so he talked them into a few dollars for his Winston Cup team. It was his first year with NASCAR, sponsors weren't so picayune as they are now.

  • @brandonrobertson4413

      @enroy37 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Its like when Alan Kulwicki's Ford and also later on Ricky Rudd's own team of Fords,they had AC Delco decals on their Fords at one time or another because they received support and used AC Delco spark plugs. AC Delco and Motorcraft make consumable parts for all kinds of other makes and models of cars and trucks,i.e. spark plugs,plug wires,air filters,fuel filters,battery,and ignition parts,etc. Nowadays with factory support,major manufacture backing probably forbids that kind of support from a competitor manufacturer part supplier. That is unless they still do it to this day and now just don't put the decals on the car anymore.
