As a former tire/lube tech, having used conventional tire machines and the likes of this one, I can tell you from experience : That tire machine sucks major dookie. It's so slow, I can do 2.5 tires in the time it takes that machine to do 1, and it's unreliable, always breaking because one of the many sensors are out of adjustment. We were handed this thing by our superiors and compelled to use it for everything, using our jobs as leverage, but this was also around the time Covid was getting "bad," and we were being compelled to wear chin-daipers, as well, so my days were numbered at that point. Luckily, I'm the lead mechanic at a small independent shop, now, with an amazing boss and a path to taking ownership of the company. Screw corporate America, and screw that p.o.s. overpriced, overengineered tire machine.
@harold6863 There's BS in every trade. It's all in where you're at. If you can be your own boss, you're set. If not, find a place that respects you and where you enjoy going. They exist, but you have to work to find them. (Speaking to other people that may or may not read this.) But dealing with manufacturers is definitely frustrating. Parts quality is getting worse, dealer service is getting worse, customer service and warranties are getting worse... But look at the other trades. It isn't any easier.
I used one of those Hunter Revolution machines at a quick lube/tire shop. We didn't buy it because it would help us be more productive, it was a $40k toy for the boss...
@alexandergunaka973 we have one at our shop, it's actually pretty reliable. the air inflator on it has been the only recurring issue, and the control knobs got replaced few months ago. but I've been at this place a year now and the machine itself hasn't failed once.
How many cars over $100k get the tires mounted at your shop? This is for high end cars only because a scratch means shop owners is buying a very expensive wheel
If there was a shop that did that quality work it would cost double. They would have the people to do the work. Or you make an appointment. Either way it will work out. Back in the day I took my wheels to a shop recommended by the Porsche dealer. Wheels were done , all four BBS two piece rims had four sets of four small holes made by the machine. When I talked to the owner he said they did not do that. I asked to see the mounting machine. I swear it looked like milling machine area. Piles of aluminum chips. So have to tell him the four rubber pucks stuck to the machine are for alloy rims. What chance do we have.
For everyone complaining about the time and money, id rather pay someone to mount and balance my tires correctly and take they’re time to not scratch the hell out of my factory gloss black wheels, than have someone blasting thru and doing it half ass and have to get rebalanced, and permanent damage done to the wheels

Because a busy tire shop may mount and balance 50 - 100 tires a day. And that process (although it is cool) is incredibly time consuming. I could see it maybe if your shop is strictly mounting exotic car wheels that potentially cost as much as the tire tech makes in a year. But in that case they wouldn't be servicing many cars a day anyway.
Problem is it costs like 20k for that machine and it’s going to take 1.5-2 hours start to finish on a car to do that so a shop should be charging $200 to do a set and there are very few places you could actually charge that and have business
