Roy with his quickness was a great defensive fighter. He could have done what Floyd did better than Floyd did it. But Roy came to fight every time he laced on a pair of gloves. That's the reason Roy is respected by all boxing fans and always will be.

Boxing Circles Around The World Toney took the fight on short notice and was weight drained and BHop was a novice who came into his prime in his mid 30's. No dis. Just facts. Roy was great. But those guys were far from prime. Not blaming anyone, either. Just being objective.

Precise Puncher Compared to today's standards sugar ray Robinson and all of the fighters from his era took fights on short notice. Once the contract is signed the excuses should be out of the window. Roy Jones Jr was an anomaly, not a journeyman, so shame on James Toney for taking a fight like that on short notice. Bernard Hopkins who I rate higher than Roy Jones on my all time list must have magically found his late blooming prime right after his fight with Roy, because he went on a hell of a run; spanning from directly after that fight, to his 2 fights with Taylor he was unstoppable.

Phenom Facemob because in the 90’s when you were a dominate champ at a lower weight class the media wanted you to move up. So James Toney who claimed to be the King of all MWs even thou he was at 168 SuperMW was considered the man. Nigel Benn ducked Toney on his own UK network when Toney came on via satellite and trash talk Benn In front of his fans. So Roy could of been the best 160 champ ever IMO. He was just to fast and had way CW power at 160/168! Remember he would of KO BHOP if he didn’t break his right hand in the 3rd round. He still beat BHOP easy with his left! Y’all must of forgot!

His speed and reflexes were gone when he came back down from heavyweight. He fought with his hands down! And he had Jesus given out of this world reflexes to hit and not be hit! When those left you could hit him, his style was rendered useless when the gifts left! He would have crushed everybody he lost to in prime! Roy in his prime stops all of them by KO!!! They would not have touched him, plus he had power! The film don't lie...............

I never said anything about who floyd ducked - i just said corrales is not to be compared to roy jones jr.. Floyd definitely has the greater resume, in terms of big name fighters, but roy was doing things no one else has. No one in history has shown the skills/dominance roy jones jr. did. Floyd is a legend, but he can't mess with prime roy, and i seriously doubt he would've taken a fight against him. Roy would've been the bigger man with more athleticism and great ring iq. Floyd decided not to fight winky wright, who was bigger and probably smarter at the time. I also think he was scared of acelino freitas. Freitas was seen as a monster during that period. I didn't even give a shit about floyd back then.

Roy Jones JR. was indeed (in his prime) the BEST, unequivocally, ever!! Hands DOWN, you ALL musta forgot! His speed and accuracy and power all combined was UNEQUALED amongst all known fighters. Roy Jones JR. rarely ever got hit with a clean punch from anybody. You can't equivalate "Sugar Ray Robinson", "Joe Louis", "Sugar Ray Leonard", "Mohamed Ali", "Floyd Mayweather" etc. to Roys combined strenght's e.g. Power, Speed, Accuracy, Footwork, Defense, Agility, Offence, Ring Generalship. When we look at all of these attributes, in unison, there is one clear and concise, utter master, of the ring and that was indeed ROY JONES JR>!!!

Why do people always say Floyd hasn’t fought any elite fighters in there prime...
    Paul Williams wasn’t elite
    Margarito wasn’t elite
And please don’t say manny cause we know he refuse test and wanted a split and he wasn’t the a side and without Floyd he’s fighting on ESPN for the free 🤷🏽‍♂️
That’s the only names he didn’t fight at the time he called most fighters out coming up and he had to wait to get the Oscar fight , and Shane camp didn’t want the fight until they saw Floyd name was big and they can get a big pay day.... bro beat 23 world champions ... people are pissed cause usually fighters taste defeat and he hasn’t and to this day he still talks shit about it but he prove to people and back it up....

Because they just copy what other say with looking up what really happen for themselves. If they did they realize Paul Williams lost to A fighter Cotto KO in 3 rounds(remember Arum told Floyd Cotto wasn’t ready to face Floyd yet at this stage) and Margocheat! Only people who say his name are Dougie Fischer worshippers who just want to believe Margocheat only tried to cheat vs Mosley and didn’t do it prior😂! Manny himself said he was afraid of needles and he and Arum walked away from the 2010 fight. Floyd signed the original contract(Kevin Iole wrote a article on it).

It’s a shame really, with Floyd it’s literally just hate. People throw out all facts, statistics and make up literal bullshit when they try to discredit him lol. The shit they say is just mind blowing with how dumb it is. At the end of the day you don’t have to like his style or him personally but Floyd is TBE his record is perfect his career was perfect, he walked away from the sport with the most money and the least damage out of any other fighter of his level. I guess the beauty in it is that no matter how much people hate him, it doesn’t change the truth.

Max Kellerman had an interesting comment about RJJ years ago.
He said, "When Roy Jones was the #1 pound-for-pound best fighter in the world and still in his prime, Floyd Mayweather was the clear cut #2 pound-for-pound best fighter in the world and just beginning to enter his prime."
Jones beat Bernard Hopkins in 1993, then dominated James Toney in 1994 when Toney was the #1 pound-for-pound fighter in the world. Let's say Jones's prime started with Toney in 1994. The first Tarver fight was 2003 and Jones had to pull that win from the fire. Bear in mind, this fight was after the Ruiz fight. The next Jones fight was the rematch where he got knocked out in two rounds.
I would argue that Jones' prime started with Toney in 1994 and ended with the first Tarver fight in 2003. Jones looked slow and his reflexes were gone.
Mayweather never lost, but when did his prime begin? When did his prime end? His first dozen or so fights were not noteworthy. He had a win against Emanuel Augustus in 2000, then beat Diego Corrales in 2001 (the same Diego Corrales who had the greatest comeback every against Jose Luis Castillo). Floyd then beat Castillo twice in 2002, beat DeMarcus Corley in 2004, then destroyed Gatti in 2005.
(A note on Gatti: we all saw Gatti lose some fights, but he never looked beat in any of them. Mayweather beat Gatti up. That was the first time we saw Gatti as a shot fighter. The last time Gatti lost a fight before Mayweather was the first Ward fight, which Gatti lost by majority decision.)
Let's assume Mayweather's prime started with Gatti in 2005. I would argue that his prime ended with the first Maidana fight in 2014, which Floyd won by majority decision. Floyd looked extremely hittable that night and the Compubox numbers support the observation.
    In summary:
    prime Roy Jones = 1994- 2003.
    prime Floyd = 2005 - 2014.
Both had nine-year primes. During their primes, Roy Jones handed a few of his opponents their first career loss: see James Toney, Montell Griffin, Eric Harding, Glen Kelly). Some of Jones' opponents are in the boxing hall of fame (McCallum, Hill) and Toney and Hopkins will eventually gain induction into the hall.
We do not know what will happen with Floyd's opponents but Oscar is a hall of fame fighter. So is Mosley, Marquez, and Pacquaio
    Then again: @t
Floyd ranked #1 pound-for pound all time, while Jones is ranked #30.

    • @kevinmiller2210
      @kevinmiller2210 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I'm agree with everything you said with the exception of the end of Floyd's prime. My argument is I believe his prime ended between the second Maidana fight and the Pacquiao fight. My reasoning for this is the game plan Floyd had for Maidana 1. Floyd was mainly on the ropes and pot shotting all night due to what he saw in the maidana v bronzer fight. At the end of the fight with Broner Maidana was tired and Broner won a lot of rounds on the backend. Floyd anticipated that maidana would punch himself out and would leave himself open in the later rounds. However the second fight the game plan was to execute from the center of the ring and Maidana had no answer for Floyd at all, he was as sharp as ever. In the Pacquiao fight he looked like a shell of his former self.
