CHINA'S MOST BEAUTIFUL CITY - 24 Hours in Hangzhou

  • Hey, I’m Sophie, and I'm setting out on a 4500km journey from the South to the North of China, starting in Hangzhou.
    Hangzhou, is often referred to as the most beautiful city in China. Marco Polo pronounced it ‘the most luxurious city in the world’, and I wanted to find out why.
    From tranquil scenery at the West Lake, to magnificent temples, and a bustling night street food market, Hangzhou has plenty to offer.
    See you next week for more videos (^з^)-☆

    Those "ducks" are 鸳鸯 (yuanyang). The bird of love in Chinese culture. They are symbols of love in traditional customs because a couple of yuanyang are always for a lifetime. Newly wedded human couples are sometimes given pillow cases or quilts with yuanyang embroidery as wedding gifts. 😊 th-cam.com/users/shortsjvWLEgn64eU

      And yes, technically they belong to the duck family. A few years ago, there was once a yuanyang that showed up in Central Park in New York City and made it to the news.

    • @hodgenhe
      @hodgenhe ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@TravelWithSoph The Chinese refer to Mandarin ducks as yuanyang (simplified Chinese: 鸳鸯; traditional Chinese: 鴛鴦; pinyin: yuānyāng), where 'yuan' (鴛) and 'yang' (鴦) respectively stand for male and female mandarin ducks. In traditional Chinese culture, mandarin ducks are believed to be lifelong couples, unlike other species of ducks. Hence they are regarded as a symbol of conjugal affection and fidelity, and are frequently featured in Chinese art.
