Fascinating vintage footage, Alrxander! I was born in Dennistoun in Glasgow, but left in 1959! I DO recognise the places pictured, although I don’t remember ever travelling along the low-level line, I WAS aware of it’s existence

Incredible footage looking straight into my childhood past, I don't remember being on this line (though my older brothers do getting on at Clydebank Riverside for Balloch) but the landmarks evoke so many memories, Yoker power station, Drysdale Pumps where I worked as an apprentice (Weir's by then), the balustrades on the UCBS bakery opposite our old primary school, Hamilton Memorial Church where we went to the 'Lifies', the back of Rothesay Place where I played with a good pal and the tenements on either side of South Elgin Street where we kicked a baw between the 'pends'. Fleeting footage of Rothesay Dock too where we played. The Renfrew Ferry which we crossed regularly to visit grandparents in Renfrew. The deep wooded cut from 5:15 to 5:24 looks like it could be close to Bowling given the steepness of the hills, I can't place it anywhere else. Think the shipyard at 3:08 is Simons-Lobnitz on the opposite bank just before John Browns comes into view at 3:18, the last ship to be launched at Simons-Lobnitz was in December 1963. Quite an amazing find, thanks for posting.

@@alrxanderwylie6512 Amazing Alex we were in South Douglas Street (next to Iona Vaults) then moved up to Whitecrook, my pal lived in South Elgin Street. I can't remember seeing any movies in the Bank Cinema as it closed when I was young, we used to climb in and play on the balcony and I actually remember a crowd of us going up to the projection room and looking out over the empty cinema. I remember some of the shops; Bank Cafe next to the cinema entrance, MacLellans sweet shop, opticians then the Bisley. Remember many of those shops further along too Jacks, Gennasi's chippy, pawnies, wee restaurant/cafe on the corner of North Bank Street which I think was called the Bank Restaurant (though not the same as the Bank Cafe). Will have a good browse at the channel thanks again for posting this, I first saw it about a year ago and think I shared it at that time on the Clydebank Past, Present and Future Facebook page but forgot to comment on here, all the best.
Thanks for the video. Amazing footage of a bygone era such a shame it was decimated by all the cuts. I've been to Balloch by train in 1985 from down under Glasgow would this have been part of the old line!!😎🚂🚃🚃🇬🇧

I do not understand the closure of this line to be honest. Its genuinely a better line than what they use today, and if they had both in play there would be so many less cancellations and passenger complaints. Huge thank you for this footage!
Interesting but a bit disjointed.. not your fault. Surprised as don’t remember seeing DMUs at the time. Couldn’t figure out where return journey was with straight and bridge over after dalmuir.

Arnott Young had a scrapyard at Carmyle where many fine engines met their fate in the 50s and 60s.
