This aria is an absolute killer, only sung properly by Callas and her. She nails it perfectly, with head wind, on an outdoors arena, no amplification, live...what a diva.
You msut watch Montserrat's Orange Casta Diva. It is legendary and beter than Callas. BUT both of these women are legends and two of the best sopranos of all time- they are both priceless. BTW Norma is a dramatic Bel Canto role. Caballe and Callas are bel canto singers.
@@WelshHomo87, oh my, stop it. Callas, being a true artist and a _virtuoso_ singer, was also a histrionic actress, her voice was ugly and unsteady and developped a horrible wobble from the early 50's. You only have to listen to the Orange's _Casta diva_ with your ears and not with your prejudices.
Ah! bello a me ritorna (Ah! Return to me beautiful Del fido amor primiero; In your first true love ; E contro il mondo intiero... I’ll protect you Difesa a te sarò. Against the entire world. The wind may have interfered with her at this point and annoyed her a bit, but she never lost concentration for a moment and in the end she overcame everything. It was a beautiful singing and a beautiful recording. For all time.
in fact Caballe listen her very and l mean very well sings Lucia more higher sorry for my bad english, by the way in Ana Bolena Caballe hit a E flat trust me she can hit top notes like E FLAT and even E natural
Nosotros solo podemos recordarle.
@BeauTenor She did not have them. She never sang them anywhere and was quite apologetic about her career in the bel canto rep.. wihthout an upper extension.
@BeauTenor You know ... having an extension above high C menas easy High C's D flats, D's and E flats, and an occasional E natural.. Caballe's voice did not sound easy up to a High C for long, then it just sounded like screaming and her occasional excursions above High C were just that ... YELLS She should not have had a big career in Bel canto because she was LOUSY at it.

It's true. Thanks for all your comments! And buy the DVD. The whole performance is great and Jon Vickers is a glorious Pollione for Caballé.
She deserves her magical voice with pathos❤❤

No idea!!! Maybe someone can answer...

@zurriuss she never sang an e flat in public or on a recording.. I dont; think she was comfortable with it..

You must be deaf.
I completely agree with you
Bel canto is about much more than notes above high C. Simply put, it's beautiful singing!
So Caballé's strained top means she was LOUSY in bel canto? I mean.. honestly
