It’s unfair how blackpool gets a lot of stick and I do Iive there and ,yes, it has its problems yet it has the highest number of visitors each year - isn’t that strange ? - especially when you consider it has a beach , a tower with entertainment (inc a ballroom, zoo , 4d theatre and a horror themed attraction at its base) , a large theme park with shows and ice skating , traditional trams and full of entertainment and events and relatively cheap and has a lovely Park , golf course and nature reserve with a zoo attached and another 4 beautiful reserved seaside resorts right beside it with there own parks and events and it’s also close to Southport and Lancaster , morcambe and the peak and Lake District and the season last now till January with the Christmas area . Airshows, fireworks championships , amusements , tons of places to eat , outdoor pubs and loads of clubs , indoor water slide park , illuminations , 3 piers with rides , concerts , town shopping centre, lovely countryside scenery behind it , shows , theatre etc - yeah it’s a terrible place lol - yeah it has its problems like a lot of towns in the uk but tell me does your town offer all this ? Problem with it is that because it’s a nice place near the sea it attracts a lot of undesirables who just want to have an easy life there and beg and take dr.gs and claim benefits and cause problems , antis.ocial mentality and cause problems , 2) people don’t live as long here - yes because of these dr.gs and just living on the fast food at the front and no exercise but yet there are loads of shops offering healthier food like anywhere else but people just want it easy - it’s up to people to take responsibility for there health , 3) it’s cheaper to go abroad and you get the weather - true but it depends on how much you want to spend here - you can still have a perfectly cheap holiday or just a nice day out here if your not constantly spending on the entertainment all the time (even though tempting) but going on the beach and walking the illuminations or Stanley park at the back and enjoying some of the free entertainment like the Christmas festival and fireworks events and some of the B and B ‘s at the back are pretty cheap to stay in etc and you can still spend a fortune abroad as well - it’s worth it if the weather is nice but like anywhere else it can be very variable and that’s the main issue for me the poor uk weather , 4) Less jobs and opportunities than in cities - but that’s the same with all towns in the uk and it has more jobs than in most seaside resorts with seasonal employment as well and there are still plenty of businesses and we have blackpool college offering degree courses and the work is there if your willing to try a bit harder but it depends upon what your looking for , 5) some places look rundown- yeah - not enough money coming in it seems even though we backed labour - but there are still many nice places just like anywhere else if you go further back past those roads immediately behind the promenade you’ll see it just looks as nice and as normal as anywhere else - Stanley park area is beautiful, 6) stag and hen party’s - nothing wrong with that in my opinion as young people just having a good time and adds a bit of zest to the place - you’d have to be pretty miserabl to object to this as long as they aren’t causing trouble who cares - better than people walking round miserabl. , 7) quiet and gloomy in winter - perhaps - but tell me where there’s a town in the uk in the north that isn’t though but even then you still can have bright days out eg walking along the beach and the amusements and piers can still be open even at night especially how we now have the Xmas area with its entertainment and rides on till early January and we still have the town centre shopping and shows and cafes and bars and cinema etc and they are going to build an all year indoor entertainment complex in the former large car park area which will have markets, rides and cafes etc . Just fedup with people giving the place bad rap just because of a few negative experiences they’ve had here on a day out without mentioning all the good things as well . Cheers
It's significant that all of these 'crap' towns are in the North of England. ie North of the North-South divide and indicative of the lack of investment from successive Governments in the North of England. Let's hope the current Government's 'Levelling Up' initiatives help to make these places (and many others in the North of England) more liveable and prosperous. But as a proud Northerner of England, I won't hold my breath.
It's not just investment. The problem is, as older generations have died off, so has pride in England, pride of neighbourhood, pride in beautiful old buildings, pride in older industrial buildings and infastructure. Instead we have grey modernism, toy town colours, giant, galvanised metal sheds instead of brick factories, left wing councils. All the beautiful old chimneys and huge brick buildings demolished. The old industries have been decimated by foolish government policies, causing lack of skills and people on benefits or with rubbish jobs. Worst of all the natives have been displaced from their streets and neighbouroods by immigrants who care nothing for our heritage or customs.
Blackburn, Burnley? Yes there is widespread poverty however I don't think they are the worst of towns due to the fact due to the lack of opportunities etc there is a strong togetherness in the local community.
I am from Blackburn. They weren't lying it is very grim and has got grimmer. Fed up of boy racers in b ws etc the takeaway photos are true. Too many opening and closing within 2 years. The takeaway cartons are like tumbleweed, the takeaways smell of cannabis as you pass them. As soon as I saw the photo of takeaways I said Blackburn straight off. Its full of zombies and hostels encourage more. The guy sat in the town centre is one decent honest guy sat there with his dog. They didn't need to make him look like he is a problem. He's one of nature's harmless gents and loves his dog it's a ghost town most of the time , the takeaways could do with closing down, too many of the same food and you hardly see anyone in them. Guess how they stay open. Same with the taxis where the drivers can't drive properly and cut in front of you. Car insurance is one of the highest in the country and its cash for crash claimants making it so
I've been to most of these towns and yep they deserved to be on the list especially Rochdale, Blackburn, Oldham, Scunthorpe, Huddersfield, Blackpool, Rotherham, Grimsby and Doncaster but I would also add Dewsbury and Burnley on there. But this video should be named "10 Crap Towns in Northern England" - not a single crap town listed from the Midlands and The South and there are loads we can definitely add on the list. 10 Crap towns in the Midlands: Corby, Dudley, Walsall, Mansfield, Burton-on-Trent, Heanor, Ilkeston, West Bromwich, Grantham and Telford
I was boern in Scunthorpe and am proud that the town name broke most early internet checks for swear words. We have an entry in Wikipedia on the "Scunthorpe problem". other towns that suffered in the early days of the internet was Penistone. Eventualy the US internet firms found out real town names in the UK and stopped blocking them.
So you have just flicked through the books 'Crap Towns' and 'Crap Towns 2' which were published a couple of decades ago. Did you find them in a charity shop?
I'm shocked Andover isn't on this list. I've lived here for over 30 years and there is absolutely nothing to do here unless you like charity, vape and coffee shops. I've only stayed here that long because I've never been out of work here.
i agree with ever thing you said its because people dont care about each other, they are finding life in general very frightening, hopeless. people need to learn to love themselves, each other. i include myself on the list.
Lol the thumbnail, Blackburn, ayyyyy, takeaway Street and almost all of those shops are permanently closed. First thing you see on the way in too. Beautiful.
I now live in Bridlington obviously a seaside resort super in summer anyway I used to live in Huddersfield I am not sure weather your 10 towns are ranked from 1 to 10 but if you go to certain parts like Outlane Emley Kirkburton Shelley Farnley Tyas it's very nice I was born in Halifax go visit The Pierce Hall (not sure how it's spelt) Great architecture ❤😊
when I moved to Sheffield I always had this myth in my mind that Doncaster was a posh town because of all the horse racing and stuff. no idea why. the first time I visited, I was there 20 mins and pretty much decided it was best that I leave. that place is rough is shit.
I went to Donny to work on 'Bin waggons'- on contract. For a short time. I realise now, it was one of the low points in my life. Bin waggons & 'Donny'- ah, bliss!
all ten towns are in the north....it truly is "grim up north"....incidently...grimsby is so poor..that, the people of Ethiopia, recently held a fund raising rock concert for the town!!!
I'm from down South, haven't been to many of the places mentioned so have no opinion one way or the other. I will say however I lived near Southend-on -Sea for most of my childhood and young adult life. I can tell you that in the fifties and just into the sixties Southend once had a fantastic high-street full of different shops. A Woolworths, British Home stores and a Marks and Spencer about six cinemas and many public houses. Not to mention the Pier and Seafront...Then it got pedestrianised!! plus masses of 'Street Furniture' that changed the character forever ...guess its a sign of the times that has transformed many English towns...
It's no surprise that most of the crap towns in England are from Lancashire and Yorkshire. These areas, the cradle of the industrial revolution where the workers were exploited are dire. Left behind by Government investment and with high immigrant populations from the Indian subcontinent. I know I lived and worked in one of them. The towns in East Lancashre are particularly deprived in the areas where Cotton (weaving) was King in the last century
How about Billericay, Chelmsford, Haverhill, Ipswich, Hemel Hempstead, Croydon, March, Great Yarmouth, Northampton and Dover? At least up north we're friendly...
Rotherham isn't great. The centre is run down and it seems to have more housing estates than private houses but it shouldn't be in the top ten. There are places you haven't mentioned that make it look posh
Definitely an anti Northern bias, and I live in London. Iam sure most of the named towns are grim but there are plenty in the south that are equally grim. Slough, Stevenage, Luton, Dagenham, Ashford and Jay wick for starters.
I am from Romania and I've been living in the UK for many years now but I like it here, some people can be rude and others nicer just like in Romania and everywhere else in the world
They have those beautiful classic government buildings, you so discernibly observe, because all these towns used to have a vibrant and extremely viable economic activity that enabled those fine structures to be built. Put simply, they were prosperous once! But all that was a century or two back in history. The decline of all these places started about fifty or more years ago, and has accelerated dramatically over the last thirty of them. Almost certainly beyond redemption now.
The City Fathers of the Victorian era were proud of their towns and the wealth created by the various industries. They put money into buildings to last. Now? Council build rubbish structures. In Leicester, near to my home, the City Offices built in 1976 were demolished in 2016 due to rubbish concrete reinforcement. Where were the building inspectors? No one cares, least of all developers that make money whatever happens.
Huddersfield is one of my favourite towns and I regularly visit for a few days at a time. It has couple of 1970 shopping areas that need updating but other than that it is architecturely stunning. How did Lowestoft not make this list? I wouldn't even get dog's out of the car and stayed 10 minutes.
I agree. This focuses purely on Lancashire and Yorkshire. How did Birkenhead rank on their survey? That's way more scary on a Friday or Saturday night. My guess is that they didn't do a survey of all English towns and this is completely fabricated.
NB Grimsby has the most impoverished area in the UK, bar none. Therefore the Chancellor gave massive amounts of public money (including FROM Grimsby) TO Canary Wharf, Surrey and Cambridge - the very richest parts of the UK. If these towns are crap, then it is down to our riches-seeking politicians.
Puzzled. Recently visited W Yorkshire. with a view to moving and found Wakefield itself to have a great range of shops. I live in Reading Berkshire where everything is closing except the potholes and roadworks.
You missed Burnham on Sea, Weston super Mare, just about all Essex towns, Wisbech, Peterborough and many more down south. The North doesn't have a monopoly on crapness.
Cosham nr Portsmouh, Flint North Wales, Arbroath, Scotland, there are three extra pits definitely worthy of this post.- Oh, Wrexham too, and Pembroke dock town. Cumbernald too. It was suicide or move each time for pro's & cons. Joy of Uk life.😅
It is a nice place, I don´t live there, but my children, partners and grandchildren do. I have never seen any trouble there. I´m from London originally and there´s streets there you wouldn´t go down, never mind areas or towns.
You can add Halifax town to the list. Way too many shops are gone. Crime is at all time high. The middle classes are shopping else where. Drug use has gone through the roof thanks to a certain community. We all know who am taking about.
I agree, I'm a southerner by birth but I moved to Grimsby over 20 years ago; I've lived in several places but the people in Grimsby are the friendliest and kindest I've ever met - and this did show the worst places in the town, it's not all like that!
I am from Scunthorpe and I am surprised it only made no 2 spot, I think the problem lays with the steel industry as those that still work there are always worried that tomorrow it will shut down, It really is a town you leave rather than come to
I would rather live in any of these places than in London, which is one of the crappiest places on the planet. I stayed three days in Northolt once, utterly soulless and depressing, and another time in Acton. And you think Huddersfield is worse! The area round King's Cross, like a war zone at night. South of the Thames? Is it even in England? Not only is London horrible, it's miles and miles from anywhere that isn't horrible. Your video is, actually, offensive...which I'm sure is your intention.
I get that you may feel that the north is overrepresented in this list, but are you sure that London is one of the crappiest places to live in the world? Consistently rated in the top 20 safest cities in the world (top 5 in UK) - In spite of the 'war zone' that is King's Cross, it's one of the easiest places in the UK to find work, 50% of it is made up of green spaces (which isn't bad) and it has some of the most renowned schools and universities across the globe. No idea what you mean by south of the river not being in England either.
@@eugenehenry6951 Did you ever watch 'Last of the Summer Wine'? That's Huddersfield, about 99% green space, right in the middle of the magnificent South Pennines area. You might think it dangerous if you're frightened of sheep.
@@dwm1943 You’re damn right I’m afraid of sheep! Have you not watched the New Zealand film, Black Sheep?! I have watched Last of the Summer Wine (well, not sure if I’ve seen an entire episode); beautiful scenery. There are some wonderful, misrepresented parts of the north; don't get me wrong. If I had to move away, the first city that I'd explore moving to (if I had to choose a city) would be Newcastle. However, as far as English cities are concerned, only Bristol and Birmingham have a higher proportion of green spaces than London (London apparently beats Plymouth, Leeds, Bath etc.). My wife and I love visiting the Lakes and Yorkshire Dales; and anyone who has been to Gravesend (in Kent) would never visit again unless they absolutely had to. I also recognise that so much in this country is London-centric; way too much! So I understand the anger, frustration and resentment from people who, justifiably, feel like a forgotten younger sibling; I just think that targeting London and claiming it to be one of the worst in the world (although we are of course entitled to our opinions), may affect the credibility of some of your very valid points. South London is most definitely in England. 😊
The one thing that links all these towns is that the main source of income for the population is no more. Textiles, Mining, Steel and Fishing and in the case of Blackpool, tourism.
I don't think Oldham should be on that list. I agree parts are bad but it also has it's upsides. No I am not from Oldham but I have been there many times.
I recently moved in Huddersfield from India as a NHS worker and i doythink its too bad. The town is too big to be called a town yet not too small to be considered a city.
As someone who has lived in blackpool my entire life its truly a shit hole knowing that it was on the depressing towns in the uk list explains why I was so depressed as a kid I can't wait to move one day
On top of which people don't always have a choice where they live circumstances force situations on people. In every town, good bad or indifferent there are horrible people, meh people and lovely people. Those lovely people care about each other and love their family and friends regardless of the venue. I find these kind of reviews arrogant and ignorant.
One great problem in England is that people look to the past for solutions. Bring back fishing, bring back manufacturing industry and mining, etc. Modern markets must be embraced, and the requisite skills needed to compete in them learned. Also enterprise must be concentrated in fields where Britain can complete price-wise with China, Philippines, India, etc and also in sectors which will not be automated for some time. Instead of training to be a truck driver, learn skills which will be needed to make components for driverless trucks.
Cor talk about having a go at the North area's i have lived in the north and now live in the South and i can tell you there is plenty of bad area's in the South.
I think everyone should stop whining and just be grateful you actually have a town to live in, ‘crap’ or not, unlike the poor tragic folk in Ukraine now.

Cheers
Love your direct description, straight forward.👍 There are number of crap locations in the UK.🇬🇧 Not all villages are gorgeous.👎
We've got Wakefield Council to thank for Castleford being in this list. Castleford needs its own Town Council as Castleford folk deserve much better
What’s that about scunthrope that you can brouse Freely?
My opinion is a crap town is Barking, Essex. I lived there about 22 years ago. I would never go back.
So glad that you mentioned my hometown of Huddersfield. The town centre is a dump, although we have some amazing countryside
Blackburn, Burnley? Yes there is widespread poverty however I don't think they are the worst of towns due to the fact due to the lack of opportunities etc there is a strong togetherness in the local community.
To be fair both along with Blackpool are awful.
Car insurance is one of the highest in the country and its cash for crash claimants making it so
The name England does not provoke pride, more embarrassment,.I wish it wasn't this way, but it is.
Try Luton, THAT'S a shithole.
Telford ent bad
Telford isn’t crap, rugby is though
@@alanmawson9601 Luton would have been in my top 10 worst towns in the UK
@@tsungiraichiramba I do agree about Rugby
What about Stoke on Trent or more specifically Hanley?
I was boern in Scunthorpe and am proud that the town name broke most early internet checks for swear words. We have an entry in Wikipedia on the "Scunthorpe problem". other towns that suffered in the early days of the internet was Penistone. Eventualy the US internet firms found out real town names in the UK and stopped blocking them.
Go to North Wales.
Lots of Penisaw and others.
It's just like that EVERYWHERE , believe u me 🤮
I worked in Andover for a couple of years, so sad to see such a lovely, historic market town in decline
i agree with ever thing you said its because people dont care about each other, they are finding life in general very frightening, hopeless. people need to learn to love themselves, each other. i include myself on the list.
Hi I have been to Blackpool and I love it from bingo 2020 West Bromwich ❤️💜💕💞👍
A shade too "North-centric". What about Slough, Luton or Yeovil? Bridgwater is no oil painting either. As for Swindon.........
Lol the thumbnail, Blackburn, ayyyyy, takeaway Street and almost all of those shops are permanently closed. First thing you see on the way in too. Beautiful.
What do all these towns have in common apart from being in the north.
That's right, they have many visitors from over seas that never go home.
Why did the video show Welsh police vans while talking about Rotherham?
I find it strange that Rotherham seems to have lots of Welsh police vans (Heddlu).
I now live in Bridlington obviously a seaside
resort super in summer anyway I used to
live in Huddersfield I am not sure weather
your 10 towns are ranked from 1 to 10
but if you go to certain parts like Outlane
Emley Kirkburton Shelley Farnley Tyas
it's very nice I was born in Halifax go visit
The Pierce Hall (not sure how it's spelt)
Great architecture ❤😊
when I moved to Sheffield I always had this myth in my mind that Doncaster was a posh town because of all the horse racing and stuff. no idea why. the first time I visited, I was there 20 mins and pretty much decided it was best that I leave. that place is rough is shit.
Sheff ain’t much better, with all the murders and rapes going on recently
I’m from Doncaster, and I’m always surprised when it doesn’t appear on these lists.
@@phllvslc same mate always expect it to be number 1 tbh

I went to Donny to work on 'Bin waggons'- on contract. For a short time.
I realise now, it was one of the low points in my life.
Bin waggons & 'Donny'- ah, bliss!
How come all these crap towns are up north?? Is there no crap towns in the Midlands or Down south.
what is a real shame is that all of these towns were some of the best towns in england back in the olden days.
brilliant, i live between doncaster and scunthorpe :(
At least three of the towns have had a grooming-gang problem for decades.
all ten towns are in the north....it truly is "grim up north"....incidently...grimsby is so poor..that, the people of Ethiopia, recently held a fund raising rock concert for the town!!!
Pmsl
The only surprise here is the lack of Essex Towns. Basildon is a horror and Dagenham is little better.
Tyler Avenue here!
Chelmsford is a city
Grimsby was destroyed when we joined EU, same with Fleetwood.
Rotherham isn't great. The centre is run down and it seems to have more housing estates than private houses but it shouldn't be in the top ten.
There are places you haven't mentioned that make it look posh
why have you got Welsh police vans in Rotherham?
I agree with Grimsby. However, is it fair to show a photo of the crematorium?
Definitely an anti Northern bias, and I live in London. Iam sure most of the named towns are grim but there are plenty in the south that are equally grim. Slough, Stevenage, Luton, Dagenham, Ashford and Jay wick for starters.
4:43 so far all up north.. switched off
All predominantly diverse with a peaceful religious outlook town's.
Every word you said is spot on....!!!
I am from Romania and I've been living in the UK for many years now but I like it here, some people can be rude and others nicer just like in Romania and everywhere else in the world
"....we don't take delight in celebrating negativity" And yet here we are....
You should put hull on that list
100% agree
It always amazes me, but not really, how all of these downtrodden places have beautiful classic government buildings. All by design, no doubt!
The industrial revolution the North was the engine that powered it
The City Fathers of the Victorian era were proud of their towns and the wealth created by the various industries. They put money into buildings to last. Now? Council build rubbish structures. In Leicester, near to my home, the City Offices built in 1976 were demolished in 2016 due to rubbish concrete reinforcement. Where were the building inspectors? No one cares, least of all developers that make money whatever happens.
There is a reason I love living in Barnsley because unlike all the shitholes that surround it it’s actually nice
Huddersfield is one of my favourite towns and I regularly visit for a few days at a time. It has couple of 1970 shopping areas that need updating but other than that it is architecturely stunning. How did Lowestoft not make this list? I wouldn't even get dog's out of the car and stayed 10 minutes.
dog's
I agree. This focuses purely on Lancashire and Yorkshire. How did Birkenhead rank on their survey? That's way more scary on a Friday or Saturday night. My guess is that they didn't do a survey of all English towns and this is completely fabricated.
Sure, it has its bad areas, but if you are lucky enough to not have to remain in them, it has some awesome bits too
Some outstanding buildings were demolished in Huddersfield in the 1960s and replaced with utter crap.
Huddersfield was booming in the sixties, it’s only gone downhill since Kirklees took over from Huddersfield corporation.
If Croydon was a town, it would be number 1. Stab central of the world.
Try Jaywick for a crap town with no facilities and slum housing
Stick wakefield in there !! No market & half shops are closed & those open are mostly nail bars & pound shops bring back the good old days !!!!!!!
Puzzled. Recently visited W Yorkshire. with a view to moving and found Wakefield itself to have a great range of shops. I live in Reading Berkshire where everything is closing except the potholes and roadworks.
@@DavidCase-ov5uo Leeds is better mate everyone here in wakefield saying same !! Wakefield is cheaper but it shows ,hope this helps
You missed Burnham on Sea, Weston super Mare, just about all Essex towns, Wisbech, Peterborough and many more down south. The North doesn't have a monopoly on crapness.
Burnham on Crouch?
Cosham nr Portsmouh, Flint North Wales, Arbroath, Scotland, there are three extra pits definitely worthy of this post.- Oh, Wrexham too, and Pembroke dock town. Cumbernald too.
It was suicide or move each time for pro's & cons.
Joy of Uk life.😅
Weston is not that bad most of the West Midlands is worse
@@diamondsam of course WSM is very popular with West Midlanders!😀
@@robmontier639 There's a Burnham on Sea too, if I've correctly understood your question.
Huddersfield is beautiful, this must be a wind up
It is a nice place, I don´t live there, but my children, partners and grandchildren do. I have never seen any trouble there. I´m from London originally and there´s streets there you wouldn´t go down, never mind areas or towns.
I've had two holidays in Huddersfield (2018 & 2121) I'll definitely go again, one of my favourite places in the UK.
I know! How is it even on here let alone 1st place?
Talks about Rotherham, South Yorkshire, shows pictures of welsh police vans.
surprised Dover isn’t on this list
And Margate
@@briancross6726margate is my home town
It’s far easier to find excellent towns in the U.K. ( about four). The remainder range from crap, crappier, crappiest.
You have not mentioned Warrington . Our council ruined the town , Golden Square is just a skid mark, .Gone are the great shops that were once here.
You can add Halifax town to the list. Way too many shops are gone. Crime is at all time high. The middle classes are shopping else where. Drug use has gone through the roof thanks to a certain community. We all know who am taking about.
I live in grimsby, you summed it up pretty well.. but grimbarian are some of the nicest people you will meet.
I agree, I'm a southerner by birth but I moved to Grimsby over 20 years ago; I've lived in several places but the people in Grimsby are the friendliest and kindest I've ever met - and this did show the worst places in the town, it's not all like that!
@@dagmaraelfman576 they were always going to show Freeman street and the old college because it's a deprived area. I'm proud to say I'm a grimbarian
I am from Scunthorpe and I am surprised it only made no 2 spot, I think the problem lays with the steel industry as those that still work there are always worried that tomorrow it will shut down, It really is a town you leave rather than come to
Where is Luton?
Ya wanna go to walsall...some parts are like beruit.
no Bradford
All in the north Do I detect southern bias?
where is Corby?
Is it sunday
How is Huddersfield 1st????
All in the North....hence the statement.... it's grim up North, but it's grimmer in Grimsby!
It's in the name pal. I've never been there but it does look a little bit upsetting.
I recently moved in Huddersfield from India as a NHS worker and i doythink its too bad.
The town is too big to be called a town yet not too small to be considered a city.
As someone who has lived in blackpool my entire life its truly a shit hole knowing that it was on the depressing towns in the uk list explains why I was so depressed as a kid I can't wait to move one day
Will there be a "10 amazing towns" video where all ten are places in the South? There's a definite common theme to these videos...
On top of which people don't always have a choice where they live circumstances force situations on people. In every town, good bad or indifferent there are horrible people, meh people and lovely people. Those lovely people care about each other and love their family and friends regardless of the venue.
I find these kind of reviews arrogant and ignorant.
Maybe all the best places are down South?
ever been to Hull?
You've not come to mansfield.... just wow
Yeah Blackburn has gone downhill rapidily , 30 years ago was a fantastic night out, now there is a hardly a pub left open , grim and rough.
