AI development is extremely technology and resource intensive .
You need powerful GPUs on scale, huge data centres ,huge and regular increments in computing power and substantial volumes of energy or simply put electricity to run without fail such units 24*7 .
Of course ,you need skilled people to run all that .
Finally , UAE is a frontrunner in AI research and even KSA has now pitched in with a newer investment of $40 billion .
What ur guest is talking about is the application of publicly released AI tools and language models which of course are not expensive but then it is not really what we mean when we speak of the military applications of AI in a geopolitically contested environment .
We talk about AI tools that are exclusive to technologically advanced militaries like Israel .

Bandhe ko kuchh pata nahi hain.. to run AI applications is quite an expensive. Not all countries can afford. Power consumption is so high that there is separate tariffs for electricity consumption. Running fully fledged AI eco systems is limited to countries with huge electricity generation capacity.
