Sorry for the poor quality... This video was transfered from an old VHS
Alice Babs - a jazz nightingale with the high soaring voice of a lark
The best version of "The A train" ever recorded! I was in the audience. One of the greatest moments in my life.
Lucky you!
Que suerte
That ballad style version of the Take The A Train with Paul Gonsalves is just divine!
What a classic concert. Never get tired of Ellington and band. Always a surprise of creative music innovations.
This is a precious video, for it is one of the few ones with the great Ernie Shepherd on bass.
Can we please talk about the final breath he took at ~21:18 (Sophisticated Lady) and then started CIRCULAR BREATHING at ~21:23, BEFORE the new phrase started and he held that G#/Ab for ~58 seconds, basically an entire minute of breath, counting the notes he played before he held that long note. Wow. What a gift! Thank you for posting! And if this is too poor of audio/visual quality, then you have too high a threshold for what you open yourself up to listen you-you are losing a lot of fun music because a lot of old recordings are just not great, but it's all we've got. Loosen up! Enjoy!
C'est incroyable .... Alice Babs est inconnue à Genève, la ville internationale O.N.U. etc ....!
Superb performance ! Thanks for posting this . Alice Babbs superb as always .
She really knows how to scat! 😌
Thank you ! I love Duke Ellington
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Just glad to have this available! -although some of the sound is wonky- but the Band plays well. Ray Nance is a cut up, and Cootie Williams had just come back in '62.
Alice från Västervik ! ❤️
Skitbra 😄 Så jävla dåligt att det inte finns bättre inspelningar av detta...Duke är en legend. Och att Alice sjöng med med den legenden...

Legend
The technical quality of sound and vision is so miserable that it is practically un-viewable. I had to stop watch after the first song. A pity.
