    This is a brilliant multi-tool. I’ll give it an “A” without question and the price tag dwarfs competition by miles. The scissor is the seller for me while other tool sets are both functional and well crafted.

    Agreed with most of your thoughts. Knive blade and pliers are decent. Never use the corkscrew and file yet. Been using the awl to punch holes in plastic bottles making DIY water filters. Been using the cutting hook for opening box packages and other things. The bits for some bicycle parts. This tool is heavy. Thanks for the video.

    Roxon is releasing a new multi-tool soon, called the Phantom. It features replaceable blades. And they will offer a dozen profiles. Hawkbill, tanto, curved tanto, sheepsfoot, drop point, serrated, clip-point, spear-point, even a box-cutter. And it has proper replaceable wire-cutters, a chisel, a different awl, saw, Phillips, can-opener, the giant shears, one-handed pliers and most implements. Looks great.
    They is also a pocketknife, the Phantasy, that will accept the same array of blades. I am looking forward to them.

    I have one, great multi tool according to its price. quality is better than leatherman low end products such as sidekick and wingman and cheaper. Some of the designs are great, standard bit can be used on this S801s,and when you cutting wire the design tends to make the two parts of plier closer rather than apart.

    The awl on mine is straight, the pliers have no play and my blade and hook were very sharp. Yours might be a dud, chinesium manufacturer and all. I just wish leatherman made this tool. I'd drop a hundred or more on it with their quality
    I love having the corkscrew since it stays in my backpack, my wife and I use it regularly. As a paramedic, this tool is fantastic. Compared to that hot trash of the leatherman raptor, this thing gets a lot of use. The scissors are just goddamn monsters and the pliers have been really, really tough.
    I would have liked an edge profile on the file. And I removed the glass breaker tip since it unscrews.
    Not sure why you had a problem with the cap lifter, the one on mine is so strong it has chipped the lip of a wine bottle, so it's a sturdy boy.

    • @txtoolcrib
      @txtoolcrib  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It is entirely possible that I just got a bit of a dud. With overseas manufacturing, you can't always be sure. The scissors on this thing are great, wish they put the same consideration into the tool as a whole though.

      @@txtoolcrib Just gonna update you that I've been using mine heavily for the year since I posted this, and it's still rock solid. Nothing has come loose or broken. Such a perfect little "do everything" multitool. Bulky but for the things I need (corkscrews are fantastic as discount knot spikes, and I have run into needing a corkscrew quite a few times while at an AirBNB with my wife) - it just couldn't have a better set of tools for me.

    I think the rubber storage for the bits is pretty good - if you find it too difficult to get them in and out, just brush it out with some talcum powder (great dry lubricant for anything with rubber, soft plastic or metal).
    Testing a saw on a 2x4 from your shop IMHO is pretty much useless - when do you get such a dry wood in the outdoors? As you mentioned, on green wood any saw without a proper setting or back-grind will fail for sure.
    The only good thing about the file is that you can grind a decent 90° and get a good scraper for a firesteel or fine wood shavings.
    The wire cutter needs a high cutting angle to stand up against hard wire; and BTW, with sharper edges it would turn into scissors (PLEASE!!! stop testing hard wire cutters on soft electric wire, that you can easily cut with scissors - they're not intended for that!!).
    The cutter blades seem to be tungsten carbide - harder than any integrated steel cutters, which most of the time don't deserve their name, beeing too soft. Riveting them is ok for me, because I never had to replace some- you'll probably break the joints before you break the tungsten carbide.
    Stay safe and healthy !

    • @txtoolcrib
      @txtoolcrib  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I don't like the bit holder, they could have done better. It is just cheap overall. You make an excellent point about the saw. The wire cutter has both hard and soft wire cutters. They are supposed to be designed to cut copper wire on the top cutting surface and hard wire nearest the fulcrum. I will absolutely continue to test soft wire cutting on these multi tools, because that is what they are designed to do. The cutter on this tool is definitely not tungsten carbide. That being said, for such a cheap tool, they aren't terrible. Overall, this tool is not great. It has limited functionality for it's size and weight, except for the scissors. It is not in the same class as Leatherman or Victorinox. It's cheap in price and cheap in quality as well. But, that's what people want sometimes. There is a market for it and for other tools like it. The scissors are the shining point to this tool though, those are pretty great. Now, if the rest of the functions caught up to, you would have something.

    I have to say, I am a little disappointed that you found it so mediocre. My S801 and S801S are just fine. The original's file is bad, the update's one is ok. Nowhere near the Rebar file, but usable.
    My pliers have minimal play, yours were indeed terrible.
    The cord cutters on both my tools came very well sharpened. They zipped through clothing effortlessly.
    I am a fan of the tanto blade, and both tools came with very decent sharpened edges.
    The Phillips driver is fantastic. It sits in the x and y axis center, it is properly robust, well formed, locks firmly, and even fits the bit adapter that also fits tons of other multi-tools. A favorite feature of mine.
    Especially after the update, the Storm is probably my favorite off-brand multi-tool. And it is its own design. Not a Leatherman imitation, not a generic Ganzo.

    • @txtoolcrib
      @txtoolcrib  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think it was more of an overall feel for me. I really liked the KS, because I was a fan of that minimalist design. This one feels a bit bulky for me, not that I discount it strictly on that basis. I think for the bulk, it should have a bit better functionality. Maybe I just have a fluke of a tool though. I was really disappointed in the pliers.

    I wonder how you would rate it against the Nextool Flagship Pro (not the XIAOMI HUOHOU). It has less tools but on general quality and so on. Pliers on mine are solid for example but no corkscrew and no file or awl and no hex extensions. It's also the version with a proper locking blade which earlier and HUOHOU branded versions only had slip lock.
    But, again, the scissors. Been a big fan of proper scissors since the Leatherman Micra.

    In order to go bikepacking in France I'm looking for a good multitool to complement the knife I always carry and standard bike multitool I need anyway that contains screwdrivers and hex keys in all kinds of sizes. Basically I'd like a tool that has a corkscrew (France has wine, nothing more frustrating than having a nice bottle but no way to open it), can opener (it's camping after all) and pliers (stuff will break and pliers will be necessary fixing it). Then there is one extra condition: weight. My bike can only carry so much.
    Is there anything you'd recommend?

    Is this the same company that sells the knife that you can get different type blades and change them out? I like the tool and knife but they need to work on a better steel to keep them sharp. After looking on Amazon for it’s $44 and a 10 year warranty sounds like a great tool.

    I think reason for that curious bit selection is because its basically standard available in market and they ship exact same thing with bunch of other multi-tools, including Ganzo and sometimes even rip offs (if you must call them that because its just Gerber without the stamp of Gerber) of Gerber. You can even order it seperatly if you want.
    I've question for you though, does that bit kit work on Rebar? If you can tell me that I can order it seperatly and would solve age old question of rebar or something else + bit kit.

    • @bilakos1987
      @bilakos1987 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It's not the exact same bit selection as the Ganzo, but they're standard bits, so we can just pick and choose what we want. I believe Ganzo made it for Gerber.
      It fits the Rebar, and other multi-tools with the square Phillips, Blast, Core, Juice, Supertool 300 etc.
