One of the things I notice about this hood is you won't fog up the screen because your nose is tucked away, something that is annoying using the big screens like the Viking 3350. Funny I haven't seen anyone mention that.

I saw the condition of the
Optrel helmet and did a mental comparison to your old speedglas. I think the softer flexible plastic of the optrel is melts at a lower temp compared to the speedglas. A suggestion is to paint the optrel with VHT flame proof paint supposed to be resistant to heat up to 2000 degrees Fahrenheit. I think you could make the helmet more durable for the overhead work / under vehicle work.

Anyone else find the inner protective lense bows and has no gasket to stop dust. Did my first inner lense change on my panoramaxx clt papr version and if you press at the top middle of the inner peotective lense you will notice there is a very visible gap where all the dust gets in. Heck if you thrn keep pressing all around the inner protective lense you will see it actually never sits firmly against the helmet. So you can actually get dust in around the nose area too and not just the top where there is a groove for your finger making removing the protective lense easy. Im pretty shocked my 800$ helmet and 5$ inner lenses allows grinding dust to drop vertically onto my lense and to a lesser extent around the remaining perimiter of the inner lense. Why not make the groove to remove it from the helmet on the bottom where dust wont shoot up into it. Or why not use a gasket like pipeliner hoods do to pancake your protective lenses tight against the helmet and provided gasket? I had a really old miller classic helmet and even that old tech helmet has a massive rubber gasket that went around the protective lense and i never got sparks or dust on the lemse even if i welded overhead. I dont think i would buy another optrel hood. Their lense quality is amazing but everything else sucked. I think im going to make my own review so people are informed about why i dont use it that much in our fab shop.

I know this is almost two years old, but I really appreciate this video. I just started out welding and bought a kit from Lincoln Electric that included the auto darkening hood, gloves, soapstone, 1 magnet, and chipping hammer. To start out, this has worked very well. I'm not welding every day, nor am I welding more than an hour each time. However, I am someone who believes in good safety gear and am willing to spend the money for quality and durability. I've heard the saying, "Buy once, cry once," and it fits in some of the things I have purchased over the years. My original helmet kit cost $125 and this helmet is just under $400 on amazon. Again, I don't mind spending the money if it is worth it - your videos reviewing this helmet show that it is worth it.
Before I pull the string to purchase this version, I'd love to see a comparison between this one and the Crystal 2.0. I really want to invest in a hood with a very large field of view (I'm 54 and my eyesight is not as good as it once was) and large lens. Did you ever get the chance to compare these two?
Thanks for the great video. I appreciate it!

Hi MorFab ~ We purchased an Optrel Panoramaxx CLT helmet back in Dec 2021 and, due to circumstances beyond my control, it has sat in its box for nearly 8 months. I pulled it out for the long July 4th 2022 weekend and practiced my welding with it. Although it seems pretty dark with the factory settings, everything went fairly well. Today, on the other hand, I inserted the 2.5 magnifying lens and quite frankly the helmet scared "doo" out of me. In fact, by the time I took the helmet off, I was seeing a yellow spot in my vision, so I trust that you can understand where I'm coming from. As the magnifying lens is an Optrel product, I assume that this type of lens has been checked numerous times by Optrel, which lead me to think about the battery. If it's not too much trouble, I'd really appreciate it if you would tell me how you go about determining whether or not the helmet's battery is sufficiently charged before you use it. I've used other helmets which were designed to clearly signal the user when the battery charge is too low, but, not having experience with Optrel helmets, I really have no idea what to look for. I presently have the helmet plugged into a USB port and I'm seeing a double-diode above the left lens that's lit green over red. The online manual seems to indicate that you will see a green "star" when the battery is fully charged, but I wanted to ask an experienced Optrel user before using the helmet again. Sorry about all the words, but I think you know how important this is. Thank you for your time.

I have two E684s and a Crystal 2.0 (non panoramaxx) and love them all. The Crystal is by far the best I’ve ever used and leagues above the 684 as far as clarity. The 2.0 light makes a WORLD of difference. Before I bought the Crystal, the e684 was the best I had used having owned speedglas and Lincoln. If you can afford a 2.0, buy one.

Just bought an Optrel Panoramaxx, the best helmet I have owned, headgear fits perfectly and can be used wearing spectacles and 3M force 8 respirator. The field of view is amazing, have left the helmet down for 6 hours while fabricating including marking up and grinding, the grind button is easily accessed while wearing gloves and the auto mode with twilight set switched perfectly between low Amp Tig and 250 Amp Mig. I highly recommend this helmet I paid £444 here in the UK and consider it money well spent.

Do you find bowing of the inner protective lense? I noticed the inner lenses never sit flush. My first helmet arrived with a crack in thr mail so they sent me a 2nd one. I can confirm both helmets have this issue and i only noticed today (4 months later as i did my first inner lense change and grinding dust made its way onto my welding lense from the inside. There is a groove at the top... of the nose piece where you csn grab the inner lense to remove it. There was a 1/32 or so gap there where dust can just fall onto the inside of the lense. Then if you press around the perimeter of the inner lense you will notice it moves forward and back easily and has gaps 360 where dust cna get in. Why they didn't make a rubber gasket built into the inner lense like they have for the protective outer lense is beyond me. I cant believe an 1200$ papr version of the panoramaxx clt doesnt protect its expensive lense when they charge 5$ per inner protective lense.

I bought the panoramaxx right when it first came out. I used it once and its been sitting on my shelf for the past 2 years. I prefer my optrel e680 more. I weld everyday, confined areas in boats, tanks, etc. flipping the hood down fast and the nose piece hit me pretty good in the snout. It will contintue to sit on the shelf until I buy a tig welder, than I can see myself using this helmet more. until then the e680 gets my vote and I am excited to try the new crystal hood out as well. glad this hood worked good for you.

    • @AJays734
      @AJays734 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

@@peterm3159if you weld flux core in a dusty shop the lense gets that pollen like residue on it from welding. Then when the shop lights hits that residue on the outer protective lense its a real chore to fab unless you swap out the expensive lense for a new one. I would argue this helmet is only good for tig as otherwise you are wasting money on propreitary protective lenses using fcaw 10 hrs a day. The helmet is actually shitty for fab because the dust accumulates on the lense so i kept having my hood up to fab which negated the benefits of wearing a papr. I have buyers remorse. While the lense is amazing the inner protective lense covers never sit flush and allow dust on the lense. I can confirm this on both my clt paprs. The first one sent to me had a crack in the nose piece the day it arrived in the mail. So i was able to compare that one with the new one they sent me and both have gaps where dust gete in particularly above the nose piece where they have a groove for your finger to remove the inner protective lense. Its like a 1/32 gap on both helmets. Terrible design that it doesnt have a cover for the perimiter of the inner lense to stop dust or at the very least build a gasket into the inner lense like they have for the front. I wont buy optrel again. I could have purchased 3 viking helmets for the price of my papr version. And their extended life battery on the papr only lasts 7.5 to 8 hrs on average on medium setting and not the high numbers they say on their website.

I have a issue where sometimes my wire will just get a glow but not pulse like maybe it’s the speed too low? Not sure but the issue with my helmet is when it does this it goes into light state which isn’t good for my eyes. Do you think this helmet might help prevent that?

  • @jmackinjersey1

I bought an Optrel Panoramaxx a few months ago, and it is the best helmet I've owned. A lot of the guys in the shop want one, but can't justify the price, so they borrow mine, since I don't use it every hour of every day.
I only charged mine once as well, so only time will tell how that holds up.
I too have a gripe about the head gear. I don't care I'd it stays up since I rarely need to lift it. But my complaint is that the knob used to move the lenses closer to or farther from my face does not work. I have contacted them several times about this but haven't heard anything from them.
I'll get a video up about mine in a while, when I get a few minutes.

The Europeans are big on safety ; they want you to have it Down all the time, hence the cool features! I'm sure a company who is this advanced tech wise is fully aware of the "detent" lock Up position. They are not interested in that sort of habit (tough to change established behaviors/habits) ; there is no reason to give it that neck down motion to lower the helmet as it should be down manually before you even pick up your equipment. I think the features make that pretty obvious. (IMO). Thank you for the vid.
