      The R&R HOF doesn't have Country artists in as they have their own HOF. They should follow the same rule for R&B and Rap acts. It's called rock and roll!

    There is a guy out there who has had more hits than the Beatles and The Rolling Stones put together and his backing band who had 33 hits on their own - Cliff Richard and the Shadows. Never nominated. The man invented rock and roll in England and The Shadows inspired the entire generation of British guitarists in the 60's (and Neil Young and Randy Bachman!). Should have been in the hall of fame from Day 1.

      @@snowfiresunwind - without Cliff, there would be no Beatles - I think the Beatles would have made it all by themselves without any help from anyone - they may have been influenced by others but I am guessing Cliff Richard wasn't one of them, although I agree Cliff has done well - hell he's lasted 6 decades.

    • @snowfiresunwind
      @snowfiresunwind 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Londoneye57 Fair comment but the point I tried to make here is that Cliff/Shads were the first UK group to have a true authentic RnR sound that perfectly captured the spirit of all the artists that were among those that influenced the Beatles/Stones and I think the Shads sound/format particularly must have inspired the Beatles (or Harrison at least - remember Cry for a Shadow?) to realise that it was possible for a UK group to play American music while at the same time giving it a Brit stampmark as well as it being possible to actually make a living out of performing it.
      The early UK RnR years are an interesting topic and I don't believe Cliff and the Shads get enough credit for their influence during that period.

      I wrote up a much longer comment last year breajing down a plan but either no one cared or it was shadowbanned/spam. I'm sure Pete is always looking for new topics so i would make this an annual thing. Id have the panel come up with the nominees probably a few per decade (or maybe 10 per decade) and they all have a discussion then the fans vote in polls for the band (s) to be inducted by each decade(60s, 70s, 80s, 90s). So possibly 2 bands per decade, that's 8 bands per year. This way it is truly a real credible Hall Of Excellence as Pete put it. This could be an ongoing show for the next ten years. Put in 5 or ten bands per year and eventually youll have 50 or 100 bands. The panel wpuld be fine with the selections as they make all the nominations and we the fans vote on who goes in first. SOT guarantees no weak nominations and we make the final picks. Id probably split it into two categories, ROCK or METAL. Not a million subgenres just something to separate the Bad Companys from the Slayers. Everyone on the panel picks 1 rock & 1 metal band per decade. Look at what Martin Popoff does with banger tv albums of the year. Possibly Have the fans nominate 1 band per year the panel doesnt pick in the comment section. For example say someone on the panel picks Bad Company & Black Sabbath in the 70s and Uriah Heep gets overlooked well maybe they get pushed in by fan votes. It would be a lot of work but itd be fun & Pete would learn about his audience and what they like most and maybe he can top it off with some guest interviews & book giveaways or something.
      Real panel + real fans = real hard rock Hall Of Greatness.

      I disagree. Rap is specific. Rock n Roll is not. It is a general term. Rock, hard rock, heavy metal - those are more specific terms. Everyone is so caught up in the term “rock n roll”. There are jazz artists like Miles Davis, country artists like Johnny Cash, folk artists like Joan Baez, rap artists like Run DMC, and pop artists like Madonna, all in the Hall of Fame, and deservedly so. They don’t mean rock n roll as specifically ‘rock’ artists who only play guitar and drums. It’s all great artists who’ve made an impact in the rock n roll era, meaning all popular music after the creation of rock n roll in the 50s. There was jazz and big band and traditional gospel and American folk, and then in the 50s there was something else, thanks to Bill Haley, Little RichArd, Buddy Holly, Elvis, Ray Charles, and many more, which everything we have today came from. So if you don’t want Whitney Houston, then you can’t have Smokey Robinson or Marvin Gaye or Diana Ross. Do you really want those artists to not be in the rock ‘n’ roll Hall of Fame? Anyone in popular music who’s made an impact should be welcome.

    • @damiankarras
      @damiankarras 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @PGK 878 I agree, but personal taste shouldn’t matter. You can’t argue his impact on music. They should put more in each year, like 10 or 12, spread the love a little. And 25 years is too soon, move it to 30. Too many artists still not in that need to be before foo fighters, rage, and jay z. Creed and Nickelback will be eligible next year. God what a nightmare that would be. When people get too upset about this issue, it smacks a little bit prejudicial since Rock music is a predominantly white form of music. I’m fine if someone wants to start a Rock Hall or Heavy Metal Hall, but the term rock n roll is rather all genre encompassing.

    There's a Hip Hop Hall of Fame, a Soul Music Hall of Fame, Country Music Hall of Fame, etc., etc., etc...
    Does anyone want to guess how many "rock" artists are in the Hip Hop Hall of Fame? The answer might not suprise you: Zero. Zilch. Notta. It's 100% hip hop artists.
    But for some reason (political? financial? personal?) the Rock Hall of Fame is uniquely open to nominations from all musical genres. I’m also a huge Roxy Music fan and if you asked 10 people on the street, in the US at least, if they heard of Roxy Music you would get a lot of “ive heard of Rock Music, is that what you mean?” Todd’s catalogue is extensive, varied, and decades long. I also know Todd Rundgren's Utopia but, frankly,I wouldn't place it as highly as those others I've mentioned). Let me please make a case for Boston. First, the obvious: The Debut is as Classic as it gets. It's as perfect as it gets with every song getting rotation on FM radio for decades. It has a CLASSIC single in More than a Feeling. Like Kirk Gibson's dramatic home run in the '88 series, this alone should be enough to get you in the HOF. But let's talk about sales. The debut has sold over 20 million. One hit wonder? NO! Don't Look Back, while maligned at the time, is actually a great sophomore effort which went to #1 on the Billboard Hot 200 AND had a #4 single in the title track. It has sold over 7 million. Then we have Third Stage and its #1 successes. If sales and popularity are a factor, Boston has sold tons more than the Go Gos (who I also love....and are definitely worthy of induction). Now for what separates Boston from the other "Corporate Rock" bands (stupid term I'm using just as a reference- people who can't hear the difference between Styx, REO, Journey, Foreigner and Boston are Morons). The story behind the band is a true American rags to riches story. One man working in his basement wrote, produced and invented a sound that was never heard before. He found a singer and a drummer to finish a demo which was rejected by all the major record companies. Luck plays a role in having this demo be discovered and the band takes the nation by storm. At at time when Disco ruled the charts, Boston added a heavy yet melodic sound and the rest became history. Out of it all, we get all that great music, classic singles and albums, sales up the ying yang, solid influence for a number of bands including Nirvana, and the emergence of one of the greatest vocalists in the history of Rock! Isn't that enough? No, wait, I forgot to mention that this one man band, Tom Scholz, also invented the Rockman which also changed the rock scene through the '80s. Am I wrong? How can this band NOT be in the HOF???

    FYI: Todd Rundgren produced the NY Dolls first album, too.
    Correction: You incorrectly state that the Dolls only recorded two albums; actually, the band reformed in 2006 (with two original members; David Johansen and Syl Sylvain), and put out five more albums (three studio, two live), the first of which, One Day It Will Please Us to Remember Even This, is just as good as the first two. Their follow up, 'Cause I Sez So, produced by Todd Rundgren as well, and Dancing Backwards in High Heels, their fourth, I haven't checked out yet, but both garnered positive reviews (All Music says 'Cause I Sez So sounds more like a David Johansen solo album, so take that for what it's worth).
    The live album from the Bowery is fierce and raw; down and dirty in NYC just as it should be. The other live album, recorded in London in 2004, which also featured original bassist Arthur "Killer" Kane just a few months before he died from leukemia, I also haven't checked out yet because I didn't know it existed. However, it was the success of this show with led to new studio albums, so naturally it must be great as well.
    Naturally, I love the Dolls and would love to see them honored. Post NY Dolls, we should consider that Johnny Thunders' record with the Heartbreakers, L.A.M.F., and his solo album So Alone, are both classic rock and roll, and David's first solo album is scorching hot as well, so their influence didn't cease in 1974. That being said, I am also a huge fan of Blue Oyster Cult, and if I had to choose between the two, I'd let them have it for sure.

    Hey Pete! It's gotta happen. Can we do our own voting on an annual Sea Of Tranquility Hall of Exellence like you touched upon? I think it would be great for us all to have a REAL hall of fame for our beloved bands! Maybe a winning member of said band could come on the show and collect a prize! If they are still alive 😂 We could all vote for best band overall, and best category. Best guitarist, bassist, drummer etc. What do you think 🤔? At least put it out there to us all. We know what music really is! Thanks.
