- Now, friends, this is something that is just not seen everyday, not even here! As far as I know, this is the last 044 on the QC Islands, and the first time I've seen one running in about a decade. As you can see, operator Mr. Dan Abbott has nerves of steel, as there is NO margin for error in moving this monstrosity around!
I used to really good at changing sheer pins in the drive system.
I believe that is a Cat 3408 on that machine. I can look up the lifting capacity for you, but I am pretty sure that it can drag just about any log on Earth. As long as the mainline doesn't snap......
A new Zealand engineering company (brightwater group) has bought the rights to make Madill 124 yarders. They look very nice, with all of the gears & sprockets etc being made in the original factory in canada. The chassis and main frame etc is made in New Zealand.
when I worked in juskatla in 75-78 I thought we used poclains ?
WFP still has one at Gold River, I think. But they are fading away to the boneyard everywhere. Probably be all gone within the next decade.
Coming off the trailer looked a bit sketchy lol
is he and the machine still around,,,, is that a jack under the trailer,,, and does not the trailer neck convert into a loading ramp,,, would not get away with it over this side of the pond,,, at one time before clipboards stopwatch and pc types came in,,, ,,,,never done a days work ,,, but knows everything,,,, [ nanny still taking then to loo]
You are correct. The low beds goose neck folds down. The motor likely wasnt running so these guys improvised. Had to laugh when I saw the guy trying to line up the angle of re-entry lol. First class operator on that thing.
"Nerves of steel" might be a bit of an understatement.
150t.
Awesome vid! Thats a confident operater there! What engine(s) power that machine? How much weight can it drag up a hill?
Most came with a Detroit, some with Cat 9L, they would really pull, tailhold we're the issue, wieghtwise, too many variables. D9 size under carriage.
A very very nice load and even having the Magill yarded looks like it's in pretty good condition. And also curious if it is a swing yarded. And looking how good the load is, and seeing the red mark on the white tower
And just out of curiosity , is the letter M on the tube mean MANKE lumber and land development marking
If so could you please let know.
Juskatla is a site on the Charlottes that was a operation owned by Macmillan Bloedel, I worked at the end of the inlet for Olympic Forest Product. Yes swing grapple harder.
Tessir. Get it pointed straight , turn it loose and let it go. Track cranes are the same way. One squeak and you're upside down.
Thanks for the info! And ya thats what I was thinking (about dragging anything), that machines a beast! Hope it gets worked again. It just sits now right?
They sure don't take much to free roll.
No, lots of weight there!
So what is that lowbed rated for?
