When I went to prison, my Mum told everybody I'd moved abroad. And then a few weeks in, my uncle (an osteopath) came in to treat a fellow inmate. That was awkward....

Similar thing happened to me. I was 'working abroad' until I bumped into the bloke who lived opposite as I was released from the main gates. He was on his way in to fix the photocopiers 😂😩

@@stephennorthage4654a proper jail, the good old days. Don’t let anyone kid you that modern facilities make life better for cons. It makes the staffs life easier since they don’t have to unlock u for showers, slop out, hot water etc. and the tv is to hypnotise you into a vegative state, bring back real jails

Was in Strangeways, Risley, Walton, Stokeheath, Hindley and Kirklevington in the early 80s and you are right...no telly, sloping out, crap food, rats the size of small dogs and 3 buckets in your pad for hot water, cold water and pissing in but you don't know which is which lol but I preferred that compared to when I ended up in Preston jail in 2003 with the toilets in your pad and a telly also the worst thing they ever did was put phones in there so you can get bad news directly instead of going through the governor first 😜@@stephennorthage4654

I loving your channel. It’s about time someone started speaking about U.K. prisons I know there some old school cons talking about CAT A but most of us so called normal inmates can’t really relate to that. There’s loads in America but the ex prisoners here tend to interview other ex prisoners. If you do start doing that let me know I’ll exchange stories with ya on a zoom call or something. I was in and out of prison 4 times between 2000-2004. But turned my life around and beat my addiction which is why I kept going to prison but have stayed out since then and have a good life now and happy with my life. When I look back now it does feel like someone else’s life now.

In Norway they shake you hand as you arrive in their prisons. They also have much more freedom even though still locked up from society. No bars on the windows. Very little violence either.

I like the opening words, 'For someone who's never been to prison before ...' . Actually, that's most of us! Thank you for a very absorbing account of the first 24 hours in prison.
Do you remember, that some years ago, there were people who compared prison to a 'holiday camp'? I don't know where they got this idea from. The very fact of someone locking you up and of having to share a cell with a stranger would give most of us the horrors. Thank you for a very absorbing account of the first 24 hours in prison! It sounds really grim.

Interesting to hear about a European jail. I did 11 hours for a missed court appearance. Traffic court at that.
Ill fitting clothes, processing that makes you feel like an animal and then being shoved into a cell with six other guys. No windows, bright lights, one toilet and a sink with no soap or hot water. A thin blanket with nothing to lay on but a filthy concrete floor. A phone that doesn't work and some nasty food. Best just to avoid it no matter where you are.

First time I went to prison was 1993 at 15 to Onley in Rugby YOI it's now a mans jail, was a mad experience but in end it's was awesome the jail, gym was good with astro turf football pitch, single bang up well good then next time which wasn't to long was Glen Parva and what a dump noisey place with lots of bullys.

Worst thing about prison is the cringe. They talk like cavemen. Have hands in their pants. Walk all tough and bad haircuts

You wouldn't last a Day in a prison in south Africa.. criminals are living the dream in Britain's prisons.

100% correct. I wouldn't survive in most shitty prisons around the world.

What if you were agoraphobic and just COULDN'T go into that tiny cell with a stranger? Like you fought the guards hard and insisted that you be given a much larger cell on your own?
