Just picked one up at Costco and plan to use it soon on a camping trip. My only small complaint is that I wish it had a place to store the USB cable when you have batteries installed. What I did as a workaround so we don't lose the charging cable is that I used the wire tie to tie the cable, then fix it to the lantern handle.
Question? Can the light be recharged just by the solar panel? If so, how? I charged one of mine down and left it by the window for days, would not charge anything. I was under the impression that the solar panel should recharge the light back up🤷🏻♂️ thanks for the video and would love your feedback🙏🏻
I per my understanding it should charge by having direct sunlight hitting it. I have yet to try charging it that way. I’ve plug mine in. If your doesn’t keep charge via solar, maybe take it back. 🤔
Best review I’ve seen. I will say next time it would be helpful to turn the phone and be able to see how far the light reaches. But still…thanks a bunch!
I just bought one as well. I can't get it to charge via USBC. It looks like it is charging (lights flash under power button) but it never goes up. Do you have the same issue?
The one in the video above is charged all the way up. The more dots lit up, the more charged. Does yours need charging? Make sure cables plugged in right and tight: usb A in a 5 volt plug to the usb C in the lantern to charge. Try different 5 volt blocks, different cables (if you have them) Yeah, it could be broken.
Did you switch the lantern to battery power? In the off position, hold the power button in for 3 seconds to go from rechargeable battery to dry battery power.
Just bought 4. Mainly for emergency lighting for myself and 2 house bound seniors. Charged my cell phone without using the D batteries. Held the power button in for 3 seconds. With 3 blue dots left, it took 2h9m from 64% to fully charged. Will get D batteries for backup. Better than nothing in an emergency.
@@jimspragg417THANK YOU! Was having trouble trying to figure that out! Half way into our camping festival (4 nights) the in-house battery died and I put 4 D batteries in it but it kept flashing every 2 minutes. It was SO annoying. We ended up just using 2 shop lights I bought as backups but when this thing worked it worked great! Lit our 2 12x12 canopy setup on lowest setting perfectly for the first 2 nights and it was a blast.
The could have made more rechargeable battery in there, instead of 4 x D cell area but it is nice that there is a place to stash the charging cable. I actually like having a bigger lantern sometimes. The red flashing is more useful on a lantern that size because you can put it on the road if you get a flat tire or something, especially on a curvy road. Seems dumber on headlamps that might roll away. You can always put a rock in the D cell compartment, too. D cells do make a good ballast. I kinda like the China versions that run on replaceable and rechargeable 18650 Li ion batteries, but this looks like pretty good quality. Costco's got them on sale July 31- Aug. 25, 2024 for $14.99
Please let me know if you need to install the battery to work or not Because after I bought it, I put it on with no battery. It lasts for 10 hour now it doesn’t work if you don’t install the battery please let me know. Thank you.
@@MisterMemo thank you for your reply. It’s been sitting in the sun for two full days and the solar panel do not charge the battery at all. I’m thinking the solar panel not working.

So, I checked the instructions again after a commenter said to press the power button for the 3 seconds. It worked, with one blue light left. Will find out tomorrow if solar will recharge to all 4 blue lights.
Bought the lap. No good instructions. This instruction video was not very helpful. Nowhere does it tell you how long it takes to charge using solar as compared to USB. Why waste on an 8 minute video when basic question are not even addressed.
I can't help everyone out. It's common sense that USB power will be a lot faster than solar. How long and how fast that can vary. If you want actual data maybe reach out to Duracell directly so you can address your concerns of the lack of instructions and details. :) Thanks for taking your time commenting!
I just bought two months ago the Costco lantern rechargeable solar. It’s took me over six days for the battery to be fully charged so I will never recommend this lantern to nobody. No good.
@@cn2475 Yea, I found that relying on the solar panel itself on any light isn't good. Charge it completely on the wall and just let the solar be a backup to help it out.
SOLAR CHARGING EXTREMELY SLOW! After TWO FULL DAYS of sun, the lantern has only reached 2 bars! I purchased this for the Solar Feature, and I will be returning it to Costco! Very disappointed.
All small solar items tend to take a long time to charge. I wouldn't relay on solar option by itself. I'd USB charge it fulling and then leave it out in the sun while out camping
Can't wait to put to use this Duracell Lantern 2000 Lumens Solar + Rechargeable + Battery Powered.
