I used to run a swather much like yours as a summer job. You'll need a tool and parts kit for fixing broken teeth in the field. The cutting teeth are riveted to the sickle bar. When you start leaving uncut strips behind you, you'll know you've broken a tooth. You have to take the tooth guard off, grind or chisel the rivet heads off the broken tooth, and punch the remaining rivets out of the bar. Put in the new tooth, put in new rivets, and set the rivets with two hammers; one below and one above. Put the guard back on and swath on. Repeat 2-4 times per hour. Good times.
Well, though lopsided, the swather is a taildragger. You've already ground looped it once. I think you should name it Trevor. Glad to see you boys carry starting fluid and zip ties with you.
This definitely brings back a lot of memories with my relatives on the farm in idaho. Blowing up semi drive lines with 30 tons of hay loaded trying to get out of a field and other fun farming things lol
Oh yes you definitely need to do a video when you get cutting on that swather, watching you manipulate those controls is priceless! The old machinery will make your farming more adventurous. Your tractor will easily run the baler, I've seen smaller tractors run them.

Now you have to go through the drives and belts checking be for any problems. Follow the drives and Grease all bearings. After that pull the cutter bar out and look at all the sickles blades. The good thing is these machines are made to run for ever with proper maintenance.

Every Owatonna swather I owned had a hitch that attached to the tail wheel. Never had to use a trailer. And tail wheel frame was adjustable. It's been a long time since I owned one, I switched to a haybine since the Owatonnas never had conditioners on them. Once you get the hanger done you'll have to build a machine shed.
My Great-Great-grandfather was a pastor in Owatonna, MN. Between Mason City, IA and Sleepy Eye, MN before heading to Morton, SD I actually love the old farm machinery as much as flying, it is how I grew up

Yo Jonas- I can totally relate; in the early 1980's I was driving my VW on I-5/late at night and...saw sparks/flames from the Left rear. Then I saw my FORMERLY Left rear tire depart the hub/axle, race along the lane divider ahead of me, grinding down to a halt, minus the lower third of my shock, engine pan, etc. EVERYBODY told me "that's impossible, it can't happen". And HAPPEN- it did. EVERYBODY said the nuts were reverse threaded- to prevent that from happening. It DID.

Hauled a Sikorsky helicopter sorta like that swather when I was in flight school back in the 80's. We put the trailing wheel in the bed of a pickup and towed it on it's front wheels. Every now and then we had to dodge a traffic light and a low bridge but we made it to our location. Sketchy wasn't the word.
Clearly it was the, "Oh Man, Comeon." that got it to start., but I didn't hear a, "That things not going anywhere." when you put on the hitch. So learning...

It's a different world out here in so many ways, none of them necessarily good! 😁 I bought a 1967 International Harvester 3414 diesel backhoe ... and trailered all 10k+ pounds of it to my house 7 miles up the road. It was frightening. I couldn't go over 20, and I had a line of cars a mile long behind me. I had to duck off and take a backroad. WAY too much for my little half ton! It was big-time tail heavy, thanks to the backhoe assembly. It would wag over 20! Just glad I made it home without passing any cops. 😂 Oh, and I can't believe how BIG the kitty got!!! He was just a kitten last time I saw him!
