  • Lewis and Ye climbed this world class big wall route in Yosemite National Park after a near fatal accident happened during training. Watch this film to learn how an entrepreneur train himself to be a big wall climber through the busy life with work and family.
    Special thanks to Tom Evans for shooting photos of our climb.

    Best damn video I have seen on this climb - seriously! Head and shoulders above any other TH-cam videos and the best part is that the dialog is high quality and informative! Too many climbers put out cheesy videos of themselves acting tougher than they really are on these kinds of climbs, this video is for real!

    WONDERFUL!!! Great job you guys!! I endured a severe accident bouldering/free solo climbing in 2014 and broke 2 neck vertebrae and fractured my skull, resulting in a severe traumatic brain injury. I was a rookie. So, I too have had similar mental setbacks on why I want to keep doing this. During recovery, I realized, it's a lifestyle. :) I've only climbed the first 2 pitches of The Nose. Do you have any beta for the King Swing pitches? How did you make it work? The Boot flake is pitch 14 and once you swing over to Eagle ledge and climb up, pitch 15 is directly across. How did you get your partner over without them taking a big swing from the anchors on the boot flake(Pitch 14)??

    • @LewisWu_
      @LewisWu_  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Colin, thank you for the comment! I can't agree more that mental health or toughness is a part of this sport, as well as our lifestyle. Accident and even fatigue will drive us back and give us a chance to think about what we are trying to do, and eventually make us a stronger person.
      I guess the beta to King Swing is to lower yourself low enough and go as light as possible. Also make sure to use the very left bolt for the swinging anchor. After the lead get to the anchor of the next pitch, you will lower out your pig as well as yourself. It will be similar to those lower outs you have done lower on the route.
      The Nose is the best route! Get it done one day!

    • @cwoodside907
      @cwoodside907 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@LewisWu_ I plan on it!! The Nose would be the pinnacle of any climbers endeavors! My Nose preparation itinerary is: Royal Arches in a day, free the East Buttress of Middle Cathedral, Aid the south face of WA. column, then aid and free climb the RNWF of Half Dome. After Half Dome, I think those routes could help solidify the haling, the traverses, and the pendulums needed for success on the Nose. At least, that's what I keep telling myself anyhow :)

    • @LewisWu_
      @LewisWu_  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@cwoodside907 You bet! I did Spaceshot , Prow and NW Face Regular Route of Half Dome before jumping on the Nose. More practice definitely makes the big stone trip more enjoyable.

    Inspiring video! Amazing footage and editing. Question from a climber with no big wall experience: why do you indicate that the follower jumars rather than climbs? Is this to save time?

    • @waddywatchell6642
      @waddywatchell6642 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The follower jumars while the leader hauls the bag, it would be much more difficult and less efficient to give a belay to the second while hauling. Also the terrain can be quite difficult, so its quicker to jug rather than work the free moves. So yes, to save time.

    • @pdemps
      @pdemps 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@waddywatchell6642 That's what I figured. I assume they swap leads in that case? Jugging half or even the whole nose would still be quite the experience I'm sure, but I'd hate to go all the way there and not free climb when possible. Since the leader is already setting a fixed line, could the follower not tr solo and aid when necessary to keep things moving, while the leader hauls? Or would this take forever and cause massive traffic jams?

    • @LewisWu_
      @LewisWu_  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@pdemps Waddy has a great explanation. We swapped leads in blocks, just as many people do. The follower can technically do top rope solo. Depend on the skill of the follower, the Nose has about 10 pitches in the 5.10 range that can be reasonably freed. But I would not recommend this unless you are well trained. Free a 5.10 pitch after a few days' climb is not as easy as it is on the valley floor.

    • @pdemps
      @pdemps 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@LewisWu_ yea I would imagine the climbing becomes quite a bit more difficult after living on the wall for several days. Thank you for your reply, and thanks again for this great video! I hope to have my own adventure on this climb someday!
