The original pali word is spelled "विपस्सना" which is spelled in english as 'Vipassanā'. Corresponding Sanskrit word being "विपश्यना".

I am a blessed person. I had been initiated to Vipassana. But I had gone to McLeod Gunj, Dharmashala, Himachal Pradesh for my first Vipassana retreat not for 'free food and free lodging'!
