The moment I saw Clawitzer I was like "Ohhh cool a pistol shrimp!" Those babies have a HUGE single claw, and use sound to disorient their prey. Mantis shrimp are the ones that can maybe break glass. Man I love ocean wildlife. So weird.
I wish Universals Gillman would incorporate some more sea life like that into it. I can just imagine a scene where it fires a little water bullet and cuts a vampire in half. There are so many cool abilities out there aside from just electric eels.
If you really look into shrimp, they are surprisingly badass. Some evolve spears as claws. Some evolve hammers or hatchets. And as discussed here, some have evolve claw guns. Shrimp-kind are somewhat evolving advanced weapons of war.

@@NegaHumanX I've heard that theory, but not quite sure how Feraligatr or Swampert would fit. So far all water starters are (somewhat) based on animals that live semi-amphibious lifestyles: turtles, alligators, axlotls, penguins, otters, frogs, seals, basilisk lizards, and ducks.
I am Brazilian and I have never heard of this "lobster war" in history class. This was either insignificant in therms of history, or had another name that I have no memory of. Great video, as always, love you ♥
Very insignificant. I found 1 reference to it in my research online and then had to reserve an old history book at a library (had to wait days for access) to find all this information out, even then the book only had a few pages on it. But it fits real good so I love it! Even if Game Freak had no idea about it. lol.
Now he's a Cool idea. If we get a Region based on Brazil, there should be a Regional Variant of Caluncer that reflects this aspect of the "Lobster War". Only instead of turning into a Regional Clawitzer. It should turn into a Brazilian weapon.

I’m surprised you didn’t bring out a Clawitzer plush alongside Clauncher. At first, I was disappointed that the plush itself was so small, but then I realized that it can comfortably fit in my hand, so now I can use it as a pistol shrimp pistol!

Imagine that if Clawitzer got a mega evolution in Gen 6 where its claw got all large that it had a hard time lifting it up, reinforcing the theme that Mega Evolution takes a toll on the Pokemon who use it.

I’d personally vote for Clawitzer, you need an Ability Patch to make Tatsugiri work without a Dondozo friend while Clawitzer has a funny artillery gun right from the start.
The German names for Clauncher and Clawitzer are "Scampisto" and "Wummer". Scampisto is a combination of the words scampi and Pistole (Pistol), while Wummer is a combination of the German word for lobster, "Hummer" and "Wumme" which is a word used to describe a big, heavy gun. And on that note: Please make a video explaining German Pokémon names. There are some very interesting ones.
Even as someone who hasn't played many Pokemon games, I find this enjoyable. That lobster war part at the end is hilarious. If you want to cover another strange/amusing thing from history, I recommend the Goat War that iirc Ecuador had to fight. It's so bizarre. There must be a goat pokemon you could use as a starting point to get to it.
I love pistol shrimp, these things basically ARE just IRL Pokémon. Dragalge and Clawitzer are a SOLID duo of absolutely crazy creatures! I do hope for a full-on lobster some day though, Bug/Dragon would fit it pretty well considering the draconic claws and serpentine tail! Plus, lobsters have that whole infinite aging reputation, and that sounds mighty dragon-like to me.
Clawitzer's such an under-appreciated Water-type from Kalos. I enjoy its howitzer motif and how it plays off being a great pistil shrimp-based monster. Such an informative video. The Lobster War sort of reminds me of the Pig War in the 1850s. (Someone should tell OverSimplified to make a video!)

Lobsters can be a variety of colors surprisingly, they can be yellow, blue, red and even in very very RARE occasions Even Orange! but the rarest of them all was one caught that was a perfect split of Regular Brown and sapphire Blue down the middle
I've always loved Clawitzer even though I played Y version, the reason is that one day one my second playthrough I was wonder trading for fun and got a Clawitzer nicknamed Howie close to my teams levels and I thought that due to being nicknamed and its odd level that maybe it was someone's team pokemon that they accidentally wonder traded so I decided to use him on my team and I'm pretty sure I still have him today

This reminded me of a concept i had for a potential brazil inspired region. A regional variant of Clawitzer based on the Caribbean Spiny Lobster (since that's the lobster in Brazil that was the source of the lobster war) which doesn't have "BIG MEATY CLAWS" but does have very large antenna, so my idea was that instead of a claw cannon it had a large whip like appendage which it uses with deadly efficiency.
Clauncher and Clawitzer are one of my favorite evolutionary lines. Their designs are amazing, the shinies are one of the best, and they’re pretty strong in battle. So glad they’re in SV and I’m planning on shiny hunting them soon
On the knots as speed thing, it comes from an old way ships used to measure speed, basically a sailor would loosely hold a long rope, with one end in the water, with knots on it at intervals; the amount of knots they counted passing through their hands would be a boats speed in knots.

Doing a video of Clawitzer after Misty(Kasumi) caught its pre evolve form Clauncher in yesterday episodes. Team Rocket we're trying to steal its claw for eating, been a while in the anime to mention about eating Pokémon.
I loved the "snap so fast and loud that it creates light" bit because it has me theory crafting an evolution for Clawitzer, probably Water/Steel, it gets a unique "light" type move, and it's big claw is like a beam cannon now. Maybe even a future paradox pokemon in SV?
It’s probably just an aesthetic choice, but is there a reason Clawitzer’s cannon looks like a face? With the clear bottom jaw of the claw and the eye-like protrusions for the hairs.

As I watched and learned about Pistol Shrimps, I remembered a creature I made up way back in junior high. It had one larger arm ending with a claw-like appendage that could launch blasts of... something (this was a long time ago when I didn't make notes about my story ideas) that would break apart matter. The blast noise was like the crack of a gunshot, and the path of the blast split the air (and whatever else was hit) with a flash of light. I made a terrestrial pistol shrimp. I gave up on the idea way back because I figured there wasn't anything I could research that would help me figure out how exactly it could work. (I was in an obsessive "make everything scientifically possible" phase for my stories back then.) @Gnoggin, thank you for being genuinely fun and educational. I might have a story idea to revisit.

As I watched and learned about Pistol Shrimps, I remembered a creature I made up way back in junior high. It had one larger arm ending with a claw-like appendage that could launch blasts of... something (this was a long time ago when I didn't make notes about my story ideas) that would break apart matter. The blast noise was like the crack of a gunshot, and the path of the blast split the air (and whatever else was hit) with a flash of light.
I made a terrestrial pistol shrimp. I gave up on the idea way back because I figured there wasn't anything I could research that would help me figure out how exactly it could work. (I was in an obsessive "make everything scientifically possible" phase for my stories back then.)
