Monza, Austrian rider, only posthumous championship...? Kinda breaks my heart that bikes have their own Jochen Rindt... they both died during a practice session as well, insane
Most entertaining and educational motogp Chanel out there. I’ve been in a video already which is so cool to know all of us have been here since day one. This Chanell will grow legs and take off. It just takes time
People who browses TH-cam a lot may know about the 1987 Goiania Radioactive Accident, where a scrap collector snatched a Cesium 137 capsule from a abandoned MRI machine, dismantled it, took the radioactive powder and unknowingly distributed it to family and friends because of the "beautiful glow", contaminating the neighborhood. The incident was discovered as radiation incident on the weekend of the 1987 Brazilian Grand Prix, the first one in the Goiânia Race Track, just 10Km or 6 miles from the outbreak, and it's a common theory that the state governor delayed the response until the Monday after the race, just to avoid panic among the paddock and journalists.
I have heard of this but only tangentially, I believe I’ve heard of some riders refusing to race there after the accident for fear of radiation poisoning, I’ll make sure to look into it though!
I had to figure out some way to show that stuff and not have TH-cam destroy this video's performance lol, I'm glad someone else found it as funny as I did
One race who you can quite say belongs on this list is the 1977 Yugoslavian GP. For starters, there were protests to the circuit safety. There had already been protests and even boycotts of manufactuers 4 years earlier in 1973 after the death of Jarno Saarinen. In the 1974 250cc race, Billie Nelson, crashed into a group of spectators. Injuring several of them. Nelson would later die that night. The 1977 edition would be a literal distaster. In practice of the 250cc race, italian rider Giovanni Ziggiotto, would crash when his engine siezed. He was then hit from behind by Per-Edward Carlson. He would die 4 days later in hospital. In the 50cc race, swiss rider Ulrich Graf would crash when he suffered a rear tire puncture and was thrown into a rock wall. He died later in hospital from serious head injuries. The grand prix circus would never return to Opatija, and they moved to Rijieka circuit for the 1978 season. Otherwise great video, I learned many new things about motogp history.
YESSSSS 🔥🔥🔥 these are so good! Love all the more recent stuff in this vid, but your historical knowledge of the old motogp eras is incredible!! I know like nothing about motogp before the late 90s (aside from like the Big Names lol) so I find it all so fascinating
I remember that Angel nieto once said that the pilot Ricardo Tormo was racing and his chain came off, and he put it back in its place, being able to win the race. But I dont know if it was a national competition or the world championship.
it was really unfortunate for Martin not to get the factory Ducati seat and i’m really glad he won the championship and has taken the 1 plate to Aprillia. He absolutely deserves the factory Ducati seat, but you can’t blame Ducati for going with Marquez even just for the marketing that comes with him.
Paul Bird (RIP) was quite a controversial guy from what I've heard. I'm not super familiar with a lot of Moto news and the like, but I am a big rally fan. He used to compete in a lot of national championships like the BRC and the BTRDA, iirc all his cars were sponsored by the same people as his British Superbike team. He used to go after Steve Perez who was a business owner and former sponsor of his, as well as a competitor on the same rallies he entered. Seemed to have a lot of beef with a lot of people basically. I had no idea he ran a Moto GP team so I was quite surprised when I heard his name pop up here lol Really enjoyed the video, keep it up 👏
Saw that vid is fifty minutes long and literally cheered. Didn't think about this before but it's super cold that you add so many sources and stuff that people can check out bc that type of stuff is super helpful for me personally! Also didn't expect getting spoiled Pedro's moto3 championship in a video bc i just started watching that season 😭 And part about Ireland and bombing reminded me about how there was a plan to have a motogp race in crimea but it was right before 2014 so now it's just another thing that goes into list of stuff ruzzia took away. It vas a very cool concept and i hope one day it could be realised. Today's random matric of time is cardboard boxes! This video took me putting together 65 boxes (they r for zines so it's small ones) thanks for the vid, can't wait for the next one
i rewatched the 2001 australian gp & there's a clip of jose luis cardoso (i think he have a serious incident right there) but until this day nobody really know what happened to him at that race (due to the lack of footage & information)
Holy shit! @The Beehive Paddock I'm not sure if you'll even see this comment, but fuck it, you just blew my mind so I'm going to share it anyway @ 22:13 you mention the Philip Island incident involving Wayne Maxwell. I actually met Wayne at the final round of the 2022 ASBK series, where Jack Miller made a wildcard appearance on the SBK. They had a signing session with a few of the riders (Obviously mainly for Jack) but there were quite a few riders doing signings (Wayne Maxwell, Ant West, Senna Agius, Troy Herfoss and Joel Kelso among them) and people were basically lined up on one end of the tables and slowly shuffling through as people were getting their items signed and interacting with the riders. And as it so happens there was quite a reasonable amount of time to strike up conversation with individual riders, and Senna Agius and Wayne Maxwell were seated together. At the time there were rumblings of Senna already having a seat in Moto 2. And basically, I tried to congratulate Senna on making it to Moto 2 for the 2023 season, but he shut me down with "I'm not actually racing M2 next season, I'm not old enough yet". And to save face I just blurted out, "Ah well mate, you're a lot bloody closer than I am" And Wayne immediately chimed in with "A lot closer than me too!" and we had a bit of a chuckle. Now, I'm a freaking nut for Motorcycle racing, but most of the time the Phillip Island GP usually correlates with a few drinks with some mates, and some banter over the BBQ, so naturally we only see snippets of the smaller classes in between cooking food and getting everything ready for the main race. But I actually remember seeing the start of that race, and being pissed off that Wayne got taken out. I'd never seen the fan footage, and I'd never really thought about it since then. Until now. So suddenly that joke becomes a lot funnier (and a bit darker) lol. Gotta love it, keep up the Awesome work dude!
the drug smuggling story is one of *many* I've heard from various motorsports, mostly touring cars but any international motorsport team could have got involved in such things. racing is expensive, I guess it's one way to get funding.....

the austrians kinda have a way of being posthumously awarded world champions, jochen rindt did that in 1970 in F1 too
Both died in Monza as well
@ yea
Monza, Austrian rider, only posthumous championship...? Kinda breaks my heart that bikes have their own Jochen Rindt... they both died during a practice session as well, insane
Was Rindt an F1 driver? I know very little about 4 wheeled motorsport
@@TheBeehivePaddock Yeah he was. from what I know, he was pretty good. It WAY more than sucks that the early years of motorsports were so deadly

Thank you! I never even expected to get this far, so I'm pretty damn happy with where I'm at, and I'm super grateful for everyone who's supported me!

Round two: electric boogaloo
The name for this video file on my computer is actually "MotoGP Iceberg 2: MotoE Boogaloo" lol
@@TheBeehivePaddock lol. oh god on reading that a second time I just realised the pun *slaps head* haha

@@TheBeehivePaddock There was also the Beluga cat in the thumbnail. That made me laugh a lot harder!💀
2014 german gp is like european gp 2007 in f1 where markus winkelhock pitted on the fomation lap and led for 35 seconds
Homeland advantage moment
19:10 this is the moment i randomly guessed a number of 17 riders to be in the crash
19:14 this is the moment where the answer really was 17 lol
I watched that German start 😂, should've happened for miller in Argentina as well (if I recall the race)
Thanks for the vid and all the best 💪
sequel to my favourite video i literally could NOT be any happier right now
