That night in KC ... man! ... Gaines got his shot at glory and brother he bullseyed it.
All these years later ... it only kicks the gut more how his career cut short. God does work in mysterious ways ...
And it always leaves a smile, when I think of his sister up on that riser stage rear KNOWING her baby brother's chops.
Good on her keeping on RVZ AC & GR to give him an audition. Live and on stage in front of 1000s of fans? Pressure much?
The sky was truly the limit then ... he flew high indeed. Steve Gaines WAS Freebird.

Scott, a great job here, thanks, Ronnie knew talent when he heard it, when he let Steve sing this song on an album, Ronnie had no big head about him, this was an Honor to Steve, Ronnie Loved Steve, Rock on, R.I.P. to all the Freebirds, Cousin Figel

I think Steve was such a monster player and they were about to go to whole new level and then the crash. Sucks 😥

Steve Gaines was just an absolute monster on the ol' ax! So sad he and Ronnie didn't get to take Skynyrd into the next phase as I know they had BIG plans. Cheers! P[>

For some reason, I’m not getting email notifications of your videos. I just happened to get on here and your last couple of videos popped up. Still enjoying your videos. Just waiting on 3 Steps and That Smell. 😁👍🏼

Cool blues solos. I hear some SRV in this song even though this was a few years before SRV. Anyway, cool stuff as usual!

Thanks so much for doing this (and thanks to whoever requested it). Like pretty much all LS songs, I love this one. I've worked on the intro and the first lead solo before and kinda got them right, but never to my satisfaction. Never really got anywhere with the rhythm before. Looking forward to going through this video with my guitar again tonight after work.

This is incredible . I can't believe it took this long for me to say this . When you dissect a piece like this ,it makes you think about the fact that there is no way Gary ,Allen ,or even Ed , could have written a piece like "You got that right " . That song is compositionally , really unique from any other LS song I can think of . I kinda think that may have been the direction they would have been headed in. With Steve and Ronnie trading and harmonizing & maybe no honkettes.
