  • In this video, @EspenHelland uses the Tragopan Floating Hide on a loch close to his house in Scotland. The floating blind allows him to get into the water for bird photography, capturing wildlife at unique angles.

      PS -- insole foot warmers!! ("hothands" is the brand I use in the DEEP cold winters here; think they'd be great inside dry suit booties....)

      Good tip, might try that especially when it gets even colder into winter!

    You can't beat the low-angle perspective, I bought one in Aug. (took a month to get to the states) haven't had a chance to use it. I really like the easy set-up and the way it keeps your camera mount up and out of the water.`..Thanks for the video........do more

      Oh I'm sure you'll have a great time with it! I'll definitely do more videos on it either on the Tragopan Channel or my own, probably both :)

    Very interesting Espen. Assuming the floats will carry your weight, to lighten the burden of your arms in deep water, perhaps a simple parachute type harness that you can sit in, could be attached to the floats, which you can sit in or step out of, depending on the water depth. Something similar to the canvas seat of a childs playground swing.

    • @SuperTragopan
      @SuperTragopan  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah something like that could work. In shallower water it's a bit more easy on the arms.

    Cracking video Espen. Love the perspective the floating hide offers. Would love to try it myself but the cost of the hide AND having to buy a dry suit make it a no for me. I never realised, perhaps naively that you were actually in the water with a floating hide.

    Awesome composition angle from the hide. I have some tragopan items, they offer value for money, but £1000 is just corporate greed. Sorry tragopan, you've just put me off your products, but I still love your work Espen!👍

    Nice. I've been interested in getting a floating hide but there doesn't seem to be any information about how to use one of these. How do you use it when you cant touch the pond floor? Do you hold yourself up with your arms or do you sit in a sling of some sort? Any info on this would be appreciated, thanks!

    Hi Espen great video.
    I’ve been looking at floating hides for a while including the Tragopan version, but once you buy the hide you still have to buy the dry suit which can be a few hundred pounds more & I’m just having trouble making it stack up.
    What dry suit were you using & how much was it?

    • @SuperTragopan
      @SuperTragopan  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Cheers, Mark. I picked up a used one on Ebay called Oceanic neodry for about £200, but I know some people use chest waders.

    I made a floating hide for less than £100 and just use waders ar £50. I can work in up to about 4ft of water. Had a Kingfisher land on top of it on Sunday morning

    Buy a fishing float tube and throw a ghillie blanket over yourself. More comfortable as you are sitting in it rather than hanging onto it and cheaper! As noted in the vid, your arms and shoulders will ache after a while in this position, as its not comfortable for prolonged periods.. Also wear fins on your feet to move around with less effort but more efficiency.
    Unfortunately tragapan, this is a hugely overpriced fail, it could have been done so much better.
    In the words of the dragons, "I'm out!"
