Been building rustic birdboxes of found materials and wood for years. Thanks for the idea of the brad nailer, which I now have and love - mine a little bigger and heavier, but wonderful device. Have to confess the music almost made me quit a couple times. Muzak x 2. Bird boxes are wonderful creative outlets when you live in the country and have lots of material!
Awesome, like u said actually not to hard and the nice thing is just draw the house front and back the way u want it and do the same thing with other designs.
Birdhouse was really clever. I’m going to try to make one. Liked your freehand drawing of the house. Great idea!! as for the music, yeah it was a little annoying, but anybody working with saws and blades, and moving machines, also know how to mute the sound.
Thanks for the video. I did make a “hinged” bottom by fitting a single angled piece inside of the bottom. The “hinges” are a single brad nail either side of one end and a bent finish nail as a latch at the other end of the bottom piece. Pull and twist the nail and the bottom becomes a trap door to clean out the previous year’s nest. Cheers.
Old friend gave me a gave me a Brad nailer about twenty years ago...... Just like yours, it shoots different size brads.............That little Brad nailer still works 2020.........I love that little gun.

Suggestion, Place a small piece of carpet under your house when putting together to prevent it from sliding around so easily. Other than that everything is beautiful.
Great design and always a great idea to help birds nest safety, pretty design but needs a hole or two in the base to allow for drainage ...... also, airflow could be an issue, so some gaps in the side will help. Hope you used copper brads or rust will result in the whole thing falling apart after a year or two.

So easy! All you need is a bandsaw, a table saw, a miter saw, and a nail gun (plus compressor). Around $1,000 in tools and voila! You can build a birdhouse! (Cool looking birdhouse I must admit)

+Hassan Al-Mosawi Al-Mosawi thanks for watching and subscribing.. this Friday I’m going to build an outhouse birdhouse and video it.. I think it’s really cool looking .. again thanks for watching
I have four large bins of sticks left over from a project. About 5/8 inch thick, 1 3/4inch wide , 8 feet long. They even have angled cut sides. I told my son I might make a thousand bird houses....
Patty, Thanks for watching .. sounds like u could make a lot of bird houses.... I have a problem throwing away scraps because I’m always thinking of something I can build ..
Mark Dohring not to bother you, but I am thinking of you and your family. Just wanted to say, I feel like I am going to be able to make some funny birdhouses, and not just dream of it. I think many talented people can make very beautiful things, but I may just try , with my limited talent , to make birdhouses that make people laugh. I have almost every tool known to man, and I have time and a lot of scraps and staples and screws and nails and even boxes of lovely house shingles I stained myself. Happy New Year. God bless.
Brian, Good Question, some birds require and some do not..usually individuals will not put a perch on houses for smaller birds because they don't need a perch to land it would provide a larger bird to land and possibly cause issues for the babies or smaller bird. I really don't have a problem with other birds. I have a house that the sparrows are using and I added a perch so I could film the mother feeding the babies.. I have a video on my channel showing that... when I didn't have the perch she land in the hole and you could see the feedings...I was able to get some good video with the perch. Thanks for watching the video and if you have any other questions, please let me know. Very important to have a clean out... on this house I ended up replacing the nails in the bottom with 4 screws so I could take the bottom off at the end of the season and clean it out. Have an awesome day.
Thanks Mike .. at the end of the year I pried the bottom off and put screws in the bottom so I can clean it out ... it’s only 1 a year so don’t mind taking out screws
Lee first off thanks for watching the video... after the season ended last year... I pried the bottom off and removed the nails and replaced with 4 screws... I thought about putting hinges on the floor and a hook, but decided taking out 4 screws once a year wasn't really a big deal... when I make it for someone else I do put a couple hinges and a hook for them. Hope that helps... didn't go back and re-do the video, because for the first 7 months this video only had 100 views... now it has 28K... I guess video can be seasonal also, which I never thought of... since I have only been posting video's for 11 months. Again, thank you for watching and asking a question... Have an awesome day.
I put in two nails in the back of the floor on either side as a hinge. One nail in the front to keep it from opening. Just put the front nail out, floor swings open and just let the old nest drop out. I call it, "swing and clean." I sell a lot of houses.@@MarksWorld-GetOutdoors
Lee Fury yep that’s another way for the single front one I will use a cut off double headed nail.. so it’s like a little handle ... that’s great that u making houses also .. I’m getting ready to make a outhouse birdhouse ... probably Wednesday .. it going to be fun...
If it is an "antiqued" house, I will use an old, shortened, rusty nail for a pull tab. But I still have another means for locking the either the floor or a side from opening. You need a pull tab because sometimes with age and moisture, the wood expands and doesn't swing open as easily. ALWAYS use spar urethane on exterior but never on the inside. Little birds will peck at the interior. Don't give them any finish to peck off. @@MarksWorld-GetOutdoors
One more trick I do is glue in a piece of aromatic cedar inside with a good shellacking of cedar oil every new season. Yes, I take down my houses in the fall.

great job man just couple of things from a builder's point of view when u cut that little piece for the back that should be put in the middle like 2 big pieces up 2 down and small piece in the middle it balances the design second the last piece put on the roof (or top) should be 2 pieces of probably an inch each cut at 10/12 angle and then put it on like a ridge cap. why did i say 10/12 cause of your design this birdhouse looks like those old houses with 12/12 roof pitch
Syed thanks for watching the video ... I actually had thought about doing that, but then thought someone wanting to try it may feel uncomfortable ripping those small pieces with an angle. Thanks again for watching and the input.
Really sharp hole saw if it had done a lot of tear out when cutting I probably would have .. it’s a rough cedar and has slivers all over it.. it’s funny watching them sometimes I’ll have 2-3 on the face of the birdhouse just holding on
Sara thank u.. we have a lot of bigger birds in the area that for some reason really enjoy harassing the birdhouses I have made for smaller birds so without having something to stand on the bigger birds don’t bother the houses.. the little birds grab right onto the rough cedar and go right in no problems ...
Oh my god, who ever cleans out a bird house once it's up? They are functional ornamentation. The dozen bird houses we have in our yard get used every year and we never clean them out. Look at how many nests get used year after year. Case closed.
Bob, Thanks for the comment... that was one of the first video I posted to youtube and was new to this... Since this has over 46K views I'm afraid to go in and try and change it ... do you think it would be better without any back ground music at all... Let me know your thoughts... Thank you again.

great job man just couple of things from a builder's point of view when u cut that little piece for the back that should be put in the middle like 2 big pieces up 2 down and small piece in the middle it balances the design second the last piece put on the roof (or top) should be 2 pieces of probably an inch each cut at 10/12 angle and then put it on like a ridge cap. why did i say 10/12 cause of your design this birdhouse looks like those old houses with 12/12 roof pitch
Syed thanks for watching the video ... I actually had thought about doing that, but then thought someone wanting to try it may feel uncomfortable ripping those small pieces with an angle. Thanks again for watching and the input.
Nice video but the constant background music caused me to abandon watch 1/3 way through.
I know what you mean I just turn the volume off and continue watching Maybe just check don't recommend
Great idea to mute!
Shouldnt you sand that hole so the birds dont get slivers on the way in???
Really sharp hole saw if it had done a lot of tear out when cutting I probably would have .. it’s a rough cedar and has slivers all over it.. it’s funny watching them sometimes I’ll have 2-3 on the face of the birdhouse just holding on
pins or brads?
William first off thanks for watching the video .. I used my brad nailer with 1 1/4” brads ... the picket thickness are right around 1/2”, it varies .
Wooooooow
Gracias
Thank u
Beautiful! What about something for them to stand on?
Sara thank u.. we have a lot of bigger birds in the area that for some reason really enjoy harassing the birdhouses I have made for smaller birds so without having something to stand on the bigger birds don’t bother the houses.. the little birds grab right onto the rough cedar and go right in no problems ...
Nice video with great information but I can't see the pencil lines during layout. Suggest maybe using a thin line Sharpie.
Why do you have the music so loud while you're speaking? It drowns out your voice.
Maybe be a little more descriptive. But I love your vids man. Y'all keep it up
+ConquerRealmz thank u for watching them
@@MarksWorld-GetOutdoors oh I will
need to make a cleanout door.
+Coletta Hughes did that at the end of the season.. took off bottom and drilled holes for screws.. now
The bottom comes off for cleaning ..
Oh my god, who ever cleans out a bird house once it's up? They are functional ornamentation. The dozen bird houses we have in our yard get used every year and we never clean them out. Look at how many nests get used year after year. Case closed.
roof and sides how wide and front size wide and high
If that is all the music you have for the background, it is too monotonous and too loud, best to leave it off. Nice birdhouse.
I know, one of the very first videos I did, was new to posting. I have gotten much better, lol. Thanks for watching
Background music was distracting - left video 1:26
Bob,
Thanks for the comment... that was one of the first video I posted to youtube and was new to this... Since this has over 46K views I'm afraid to go in and try and change it ... do you think it would be better without any back ground music at all... Let me know your thoughts... Thank you again.
Yes in my experience handy diy people don’t like music in theses types of video you can either talk as you’re doing it or just quiet and the sound of the machines is enough thanks very much for sharing Great birdhouse 👍🏼
Mark Peacock thank u
Love the concept and the video. But. That background music is awful.
I know .. it was one of the first videos I posted ... have gotten much better

Dziękuję za oglądanie
Yep if you have all that expensive saws
Except for that annoying racket AKA music, this was pretty cool. The racket degraded the entire presentation.
I agree completely...it was one of my first videos...I'm much better now... but thanks for watching.
needs a perch
a
I didn't put a perch to keep the bigger birds like the BlueJays in our yard from having a place to sit and try and bother the babies... Those birds are so mean.... Thanks for watching the video...
TheBuckness - perches are not recommended on small bird boxes as it encourages larger birds to land on them
