Sweet. Just got mine setup! Couple points/questions: I had to go into BIOS and enable a setting. If I copy to install on to another PC will Hyper-V have to be checked on the new machine and potentially the BIOS enabled as well? Now, I know absolutely nothing about Linux......
The transfer will work on the new machine - and you do need Hyper-V enabled on it - it may also require a BIOS setting to be enabled. For many machines this is the default - so it’s not as common to have to enable virtualization in the BIOS. Good catch though!
One more question. Are the PC resources assigned to the virtual machine no longer available to the PC? I've been doing some photo editing this weekend and it is slower and even bluescreens and restarts occasionally . The HyperV is installed but not running. Guess I assumed the PC would still have all resources (memory, processors etc) available while Hyper was inactive. True or false?
@@ms7165 the resources are only allocated when the virtual machine is running. So The memory, compute, graphics are used NOT USED by the VM once it is off. The only resource that is persistent is the hard drive space that is actually used by the VM (the actual use) For example, I have dozens of VMs videos on external drives and open only the ones I need. So, if I have a host with 33Gb RAM, and I open a Server with 8 and a client with 4 - it’s not a problem. The host still has 20. Once I turn off the VMs - the host has all 32. Hyper-V also does something called dynamic memory - so it really doesn’t use as much.
