    Stole your idea about the benchtop having carpet samples on top. Works great when you drop something on them ,the
    littlest part tends to stay where it falls instead of flying across the room or worse onto the floor. I solder on a short found
    piece of marble kitchen countertop . At 16" by 30" it's heavy but very cool to the touch. Restuffing takes extra time and
    there are too many caps to do it to. Saving the old ones for a future restuffing session where you could just grab them
    and replace temporary ones later is a good idea. Older eyes do appreciate the clear and larger schematics. Great repair methodology Bob! Steve

    The attitude to not necessarily change all leaky caps reminds me of the restoration videos from tomtektest. Great video as always!

    Really great job systematically troubleshooting the set in a way that makes logical sense, based on the results on the screen Bob. I love watching you do these videos, because you always explain what you are doing and why, and in a way that folks can understand. Thank you.

    Great video loved watching this and wish I had one. But nice to see you get it going by just caps and seemed to work out well. I like the Trouble shooting part and explaining why. I like the new adapt a caps method you use. Restuffing does make it look original but no many look under the chassis. I think it is expected that it would have new caps. Just the fact it works is great.
    the set is over 70 yrs old I don't think in another 70 yrs anyone would complain or even know how to do what you do. Love spending time watching something great.

    Replacing caps one or two at a time is certainly the best way to get a set working, it is good to see the improvement & make sure you have not made a mistake!
    I am not a fan of blanket parts replacement for this very reason. Seeing as the set was so original, it is definitely worth re-stuffing the caps, a set is only original once.

    perfect............mine is the round portal style but this same exact model. Now glued to watching.

    Interesting, enjoyed it, like your re-stuffing the caps, this set deserves it, looking forward to seeing it😊

    I suppose when you derive both your sound, sync and video from the same source, and when they all depend on largely the same B+ supply, they can't help but interact with each other and methodically replacing caps in the hope of fixing one problem then moving on to the next doesn't always go as cleanly and distinctly as you would wish for demo purposes. A great demo of troubleshooting nonetheless, with good info on why certain conditions arise when different parts fail (i.e. the high voltage section caps) and interesting to watch.

      Thanks. Yes, circuits tend to be very interrelated in early TVs. It doesn't help then when sets are this old, many parts tend to be faulty.

    @bzuidgeest ปีที่แล้ว

    If you are torn between originality and practically on the parts, just keep the replaced original parts in a baggy in the set. That way any historian can look them over and the set will work fine on modern stuff.

      Or document any caps that are restuffed. List the capacitance and voltage ratings of the old cap (in case the markings are hard to read), and the capacitance and voltage rating of the new cap(s) put inside (and - if you put more than one - are they in series or parallel?). This way, the next guy (or girl!) to service the set, doesn’t just shotgun the (restuffed) wax-paper caps and get rid of perfectly good caps. 😢

      @@williamsquires3070 if the next guy can't see you they are restuffed, they shouldn't be working on the device. But that is beside the point. I was pointing out a way to not have to restuff and still keep some of the history with the set.

    you are doing a great job.I deal in antique radios but would like to fix one very old tv with round crt.Where can I find a tv set like this , not restored : in Ebay no results or I'm not using the right keywords .

    • @bandersentv
      @bandersentv  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, eBay, Facebook marketplace, Craigslist. Search for vintage TV, antique TV or collectable TV. There are many on ebay

      Absolutely. They're not perfect, but a great step in the right direction. He's already working on enhanced design for twist locs

    I think mine is a 7vt5a2 and the chassis is a ts-18 so might be different than yours?

    • @bandersentv
      @bandersentv  ปีที่แล้ว

      The TS-18 is a slightly streamlined version of this TS-4 chassis. It's about 90% the same.

    make it original again RESTUFF! Definetly valuable to me its look its style... and I have one. I do need to figure out how to build a better ballast although mine works.

      A list of what was restuffed would be nice to put on a sticker. If it's too good, a future servicer might needlessly replace what actually isn't original except for looks.
