    "Ms. Mushy", jamás en mi vida de comer y aprender de comida mexicana, eh sabido de caldo de frijol con bolitas de masa. Like Mexican Matzo Ball soup I guess...

    My mama would make and then fry dumplings til golden brown then dump into beans when almost finish cooking. We then garnish with chop cilantro, onions and a wedge of lemon.. we ate most of our food with a squeeze of fresh lemon.. we were a very big family so these beans, slightly mashed and dumplings would fill😊 our tummies

    My alterations:
    1 carrot in with the onion
    Crush up cumin and fennel seeds, 2 tsp total
    Parsley instead of mint

    We LOVE LOVE LOVE this recipe! I use a hand masher instead of blending in blender cuz we like more bean texture in the soup. I also make the masa dumplings smaller so that they don't overpower the wonderful pinto bean flavor in each bite. I highly recommend cooking your pinto beans from dried because they are infinitely more flavorful than canned. THANK YOU for bringing this recipe to the anglos north of the border!

    Oh my goodness Tia pati this is going to be on my table manana, oh I love it especially the idea of having a tortilla in your bowl . No tortillas , just eat the Masa dumplings
    In the soup ..so you can just eat it all together.. oh my God, you're a genius I love it two good things in one bowl!!! it's a little piece of heaven in a bowl I love it out here and beautiful California. 🙋🌵🌻🌹💐🌹

    I LOVE Pati’s recipe for this! ❤ She adds fresh cilantro and mint to the cute belly button masa dumplings (plus the queso fresco) - brilliant!! Will be making this over the weekend.😊 I’m going to try it with Canaria beans…cheers!
    Edit: Ok, I made this today…I cannot express how incredibly flavorful and wonderful it is!! I love both fresh cilantro and mint, and don’t know if I would have paired them, but the combination is quite spectacular! I also used 3 slices of bacon (to render the fat) instead of using vegetable oil (and left the bacon in) - that’s my favorite way to caramelize onions…and did use Canaria beans instead of pinto (what i had in my cupboard). Like another reviewer, I used an immersion blender and left it a little “chunky” for the texture. This will be in my regular rotation- without a doubt!!❤ My very new favorita sopa Mexicana…the chiltepins add something that is “inexplicable”…please do not skip those, nor the Mexican crema!! AMAZING! Muchas gracias, Sra Pati!!!❤😘
    Speaking of what’s in my cupboard - luckily, I had some Masa Harina para Tamal…I also have Masa Harina Azul (from blue corn)…next round if I use that - I would have “BLUE Belly Button Soup”…😊😂

    Cual es la diferencia entre masa para tamales y masa para tortillas? Aqui en Boston encuentro la que se llama MASABROSA, que es como la Maseca del DF.
    GRACIAS! Loli

    • @patijinich
      @patijinich  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hola Loli, para hacer tortillas yo uso masa harina que es exactamente como la Maseca. Para hacer tamales uso la que se llama instant corn masa flour for tamales. Saludos!

    What’s more comforting than chicken noodle soup? Chicken dumpling soup. When I first heard of chocoyotes, I had to try it. The Mexican grocery store near my house sells fresh masa, so now, Mexican chicken dumpling soup is my go to comfort food. I’ll also have to try it with a bean soup now.

    Wow this is a cheap soup that most will appreciate. I use bullion cubes by the Hispanic section of store for the stock so don't put salt while cooking beans. Thanks Patti..🥘

    Hello, Pati. Just recently received your book "Treasures of the Mexican Table" as a gift. I noticed the book's recipe calls for one cup of lukewarm water for the masa. In the video, you said it's 3/4 cup. Could the extra 1/4 of water be the reason why my dumplings were too difficult to shape? They were very mushy. Please let me know, thank you.

    • @patijinich
      @patijinich  ปีที่แล้ว

      Start with 3/4 of a cup and add as needed, until your masa is not dry but not wet either :)

    Me gusta tu canal y agradezco que difundas la gastronomía mexicana,pero son Bolitas de masa” de maíz,los dumplings son de harina y rellenos.no debes traducir los nombres de las recetas y los ingredientes pues confundes a quienes ven tus videos.en Mexico no decimos carne con salsa dulce,decimos carne BBQ🙄
