There are still two skeins in this olive brown colorway available in the ChemKnits Creations Etsy Shop! www.etsy.com/listing/889405810/olive-speckled-fingering-weight-sock I also just added a few more last minute lab partner listings - where you can look to see some hints about the video that has already been filmed but not yet edited. Then, I can film a "last minute" shout out to you and you'll get 100 g of yarn from the video! Make sure you read the description of the listing for details about what you've picked. (Or you can go just off the yarn bases if you want a surprise.) www.etsy.com/listing/878823871/last-minute-dyepot-weekly-lab-partner
Color breaking is my favorite type of dyeing! The effect where it has blue and red speckles with a yellow overcast is so unique and unexpected! I'd love to see more exploration on speckling neutrals because they have all the primary colors, and speckling shows the breaking so differently than techniques like dip-dyeing or just letting the liquid color spread.
I wish that I could provide swatches in more of my videos! If I ever expand my team (of 1 right now, lol) then this is something that I'd like to include.
@@ChemKnitsTutorials do u know anyone that would be willing to knit a mini skein for you? If you lived in the uk I'd definitely be offering 🤣 you are already doing such an amazing job, it wasn't a criticism 🥰
This is a color I don’t have. Up close you can still see the blue specks but, I really love the end results. I would really love to see how some other colors break down. I know about purple pop, that’s one of my standard colors I dye for shows.
I was expecting the brown and green but the blue and red really threw me! I think you could do something fun with it when you let those strike and then remove it before the yellows have a chance. Although I love this green/brown wonderfullness
Purple and yellow (as well as red+green and orange+blue) make brown. They are complimentary colors (colors opposite each other on the color wheel). That's probably why you saw those colors.
Rebecca I have this color and I want to let everyone know when making a 1% stock in 100ml of water I found hit hard to dissolve all the way. You can still find those blue and red specks randomly on the yarn so just some info for everyone.
Still learning SO much from you Rebecca before I brave it and have a go myself. Sorry if this is a stupid question - does the amount of acid affect how much a colour breaks?
it can for sure. If some colors are slow to strike and others strike faster, if you can slow down the way the faster one binds, then you can get less breaking. (So starting cold with no acid may have less breaking than starting hot with lots of acid.) There is a high point of acid where everything may start to strike quickly, but it does depend a lot on the colors. And there are no stupid questions!
I'd name this colorway "Olive Bar" because I think I see every color of olive and also some of the pickles from the olive bar in those skeins. Now I really want a marinated mushroom... As to breaking acid dyes. I swear I've seen some Evil Fairly tendencies in Teddy Bear Brown by Dharma Acid Dyes.
I mostly work with skeins that are ~1.5 yards around. On the one that I made for myself out of PVC pipe - I can adjust the size th-cam.com/video/DanTMqrbxtQ/w-d-xo.html I most often use a 4 ft size, although I might prefer 5 ft length overall. I hope this helps!

Browns do tend to have a lot of pigments in them!
I would love to see this color dip dyed as well.
Me too! it is on the list for sure.
Love this yarn! Reminds me of a vintage rose garden weirdly!
Would love to see a small knitted swatch 🥰

That is an incredible dye job. I think this may be one if my favorites! It is gorgeous. Thank you for another great episode.
Thank you so much! I am so proud of how this turned out (although the color did a lot of the work! It looks like I layered so many colors together!)
@@ChemKnitsTutorials it absolutely does! I bought your two skeins in the shop. Had to have them, but definitely want to try this myself.
Wow! I love this so much! The reds and blues popping through and then almost a yellow glaze over the top
Thanks so much 😊
Holy cow, that’s amazing! What a multi-dimensional color!
Thank you!
Kalamata olives. My favorites. Very nice.
Thank you so much!
I love to add dry yarn to an olive brown dye bath, and just let it slowly sink in. That's my favorite colorway.
Would love to see a photo of the outcome of that technique 😀
I absolutely love the result! Such a complex color/color way with such a simple technique. I would love to see this with other colors for sure
There is another one coming up! It didn't end up being quite as complex as this one, but still super fun.
That a great colour, so different than I expected👍🐑💖.
Thank you! 😊
I love this example of breaking.
Thank you! It really does feel like an olive here
Thank you sooo much Rebecca!!! I love the yarn and can’t wait to work it up! I’ll post pics on the FB page once I do. 🥰
When it was in the water, I was thinking, “It doesn’t really look speckled,” so I was amazed at how speckly it looked when dry. Lovely.
😁 Sometimes with the reflection of the light on the water it can be hard to see until the end. :D
I really love this variation in color! Beautiful.
Thank you so much!
Olive Brown as speckles over other colors looks beautiful, too. I love this complex colorway.
That would be stunning! I'm excited to play with it as just speckles vs a "speckled spread" like this one.
Thank you! I've had this in my dye rack for months and now I see its glory!
You are so welcome! It surprised and delighted me.
I didn't think I would like the color, but, I love it!
You wouldn't know that it was only one dye color.
Please do some more single dyes.
This is beautiful! Absolutely dip dye slowly. I’d like to see this process on other colors.
Thank you! Will do!
This is for sure one of my favorites you've done in a while. Beautiful!
Wow, thank you!
This was so great! I’m amazed at how gorgeous it turned out!
Thank you so much!
Now I want to try this color💕 I loved your results.

I love this!!! ❣️
So many colors!!!
And I'm such a fan of browns.
I'm seeing golds & purples, more than brown...
Soo absolutely delightful I love it 🥰
Thanks so much 😊
Awesome! I’ve been waiting for this one. ☺️
Yay! Thank you!
That is wonderful
Thank you!
I’d call this yarn Tapenade

Oh I'm sure that's why, but even knowing that they're sometimes in mixes you don't always see it with the speckling.
Beautiful
Thank you!

Oh this is really good to know! I don't remember if this was under the "tricky" colors, but I could see that happening.
@@ChemKnitsTutorials yes it is one of them
And it goes without saying the colour of the bare yarn can had an effect: or does it?

OOOOOO yay!!!!
Amazing
Thank you!!
Hi Rebecca ! You didn't use an vinegar in this dyeing , did you?
I did, I added two "large splashes" to the pot.
? I’m considering buying a niddy noddy. What is the size most skeins are wound with? What would you suggest?

Ohhh you’ve gotta dip dye and break this color!
