HTC actually beat them to the punch on this (and made the squeeze much more customizable) but because it was more complicated, and only available on a certain subset of phones, it didn't catch on. Google took that and made it a Pixel feature, and for the past year I've really gotten used to squeezing my phone to summon Assistant. Here's hoping Soli does indeed evolve into something more in line with its ambitions. Great video as always, man.

I think you missed Dave's point. He made his video different by presenting from the point-of-view of Google, while still faulting google where necessary (e.g. how they marketed the tech). And this was done in a sea of videos with more typical approaches to the presentation.

The gestures are a complete gimmick, hand swipes are not intuitive at all (Samsung and LG waving). The face unlock and motion sense functionality on the other hand I think is the highlight of radar tech for this phone iteration.

Surface Book 2 is really awesome! I would love to have one but it's almost 3k USD for the version with dGPU. You can buy a razer blade, a desktop pc and a new phone for that price. I agree with you MSF hardware is awesome but they just don't price it competitively

This is a sidegrade to the Pixel 3. Your confusion is warranted. Aside from tech TH-camrs, very few will care about this phone at all (unless they drop the price a ton).
There is just something about Dave2D videos. He is very specific and the flow is just perfect. His 6 minutes video feels like 3 minutes video. I always get surprised how quick his videos finish. Some other reviewers have shorter videos but feels longer to watch for some reason. Dave’s unique perspectives on tech and his flow of speech and top notch production quality makes him one of the best reviewers out there. One of his early subscribers and I’m glad to be one of his many subscribers.
Pixel 3 camera praise made Google somewhat complacent. They didn't even bother to include a new sensor, and now iPhone is taking comparable pictures and capturing better video. Just adding a 2X zoom didn't really do anything.

The Linus review was bullshit. Been using a iPhone 11 Pro Max since day 1. The camera quality is awesome, excellent HDR and sharpness. Apple does some “beauty processing” in portrait mode while the Pixel shows an untreated picture. Most users, at least in portrait mode, want this digital makeup, nobody wants to see some closeup of somebody’s pimples. If you don’t like it, use one of many third party camera apps. One could argue that Apple should make it optional. But that doesn’t make the camera any worse. The iPhone shoots 4K with 60 FPS, the Pixel only does 30.
You should really sell your voice services to commercials and corporate training videos. So chill, clear, and concise. Also, thanks for your perspective on the Pixel. It makes a lot of sense. Hence the reason I went from Pixel 2 XL to the one plus team. I was really disappointed in Google for that. And the nail in the coffin was the trade in value of previous pixels!
Good review as usual. Can you do a follow up piece on the battery life on the smaller pixel 4? What SOT would you get if you enabled 90hz full time? 6 hrs SOT doesn't sound bad. I mainly use my phone when I commute and typically only need 4-5 hours of SOT usage.

5:44 hard to say the iPhone and Pixel are "better" and showing this three pictures, where the OnePlus actually captures the best contrast between the dark night and the heavily lit building. Sure the other ones capture more details in the dark spots, but the images just look flat, washed out and boring. I feel like the OnePlus shows the best the atmosphere. It would be my blind pick. Disclaimer: I don't own any of the phones.
price is a demand limiting strategy. the higher price is to try and limit (and profit) from the demand. once the initial rush is gone and the distributions processes , they can bring the price down and profit from scale.
I am still rocking Google's first generation Pixel XL with Android 10(Q), and it's still quite good. The only thing that has diminished is the battery, which was amazing to start with. Also, you mention them being "software based", and I think that's kind of disregarding and generalized. My Pixel XL's camera can still take photos that will blow brand new flagships away, and I don't even use Google's app, I use Pro-Shot. Pro-Shot is a one time paid app for $6 I think? It makes use of your phone's API to give you full control of hardware aspects to give you DSLR features not exposed in other apps. With all that said I'm thinking of getting the Pixel XL 4.
I had to turn the radar off, it rarely worked when I wanted, then would skip songs while I drove or skip youtube videos while I ate breakfast... loving the screen and cam though

To me it's an iPhone that runs Android. 90hz sound awesome but it's gonna drain the battery faster and I got an LG G8 with the same specs for $500 on Amazon. The oneplus 7 is $437 on Amazon.
Before anyone says it I know it sucks not having fast updates but 3.5mm jack, DAC, screen is the top speaker, micro SD card slot and 128gb base storage. Also IDGAF about the camera, it takes pictures.

The Pixel 4 represented that next generation experience; not only the half-baked radar tech we thought would be all done, but the premium materials being offset by the best feel in the hand I've ever had the pleasure of using on a phone. They also catered to the high-refresh rate popularity, but again they did it in their classic, by now almost trademark reserve. Sometimes I think since Google is a software company (the biggest that's ever been) with such unlimited resources sprung just from Google search alone, that maybe they do find ways to make you NOT want to buy their products, presumably messing up promotion, launch, customer care, etc. Well, what if sometimes it's an experiment. What if Google could do hardware so much better, but they simply...don't care? I know it's a little bit in left field. Just a couple thoughts.
6 hour SOT is bad? I feel like anything above 5 is pretty decent especially for such a small battery. The verge claimed they got 4 hours or so. How is it compared to the iPhone XS?

I personally think having the option to turn off or turn on night sight is great because the pixel is capable of taking brilliant night time shots without the mode being turned on as well, and in some situations I prefer those regular night shots over night sight shots. Besides the pixel does prompt you to switch to night sight and you can simply click on the prompt to start it.

Most users, at least in portrait mode, want this digital makeup, nobody wants to see some closeup of somebody’s pimples.
If you don’t like it, use one of many third party camera apps. One could argue that Apple should make it optional. But that doesn’t make the camera any worse. The iPhone shoots 4K with 60 FPS, the Pixel only does 30.
Software can only get one so far iPhone as well as huwaweis flagship phones have embraced software . So no point supporting pixel phones now .
Please, make longer videos/a different series of videos where you just talk tech. It's so satisfying to listen to you.

You should really sell your voice services to commercials and corporate training videos. So chill, clear, and concise. Also, thanks for your perspective on the Pixel. It makes a lot of sense. Hence the reason I went from Pixel 2 XL to the one plus team. I was really disappointed in Google for that. And the nail in the coffin was the trade in value of previous pixels!

I'm using the pixal 4 xl right now, and I can say I love it.
Good review as usual. Can you do a follow up piece on the battery life on the smaller pixel 4? What SOT would you get if you enabled 90hz full time? 6 hrs SOT doesn't sound bad. I mainly use my phone when I commute and typically only need 4-5 hours of SOT usage.

5:44 hard to say the iPhone and Pixel are "better" and showing this three pictures, where the OnePlus actually captures the best contrast between the dark night and the heavily lit building. Sure the other ones capture more details in the dark spots, but the images just look flat, washed out and boring. I feel like the OnePlus shows the best the atmosphere. It would be my blind pick.

price is a demand limiting strategy. the higher price is to try and limit (and profit) from the demand. once the initial rush is gone and the distributions processes , they can bring the price down and profit from scale.
I am still rocking Google's first generation Pixel XL with Android 10(Q), and it's still quite good. The only thing that has diminished is the battery, which was amazing to start with. Also, you mention them being "software based", and I think that's kind of disregarding and generalized. My Pixel XL's camera can still take photos that will blow brand new flagships away, and I don't even use Google's app, I use Pro-Shot. Pro-Shot is a one time paid app for $6 I think? It makes use of your phone's API to give you full control of hardware aspects to give you DSLR features not exposed in other apps. With all that said I'm thinking of getting the Pixel XL 4.

That's exactly what I did. Waited to see if 4 would be bezel less and affordable. Didn't meet my expectations at all. Now own a OnePlus 7 pro
I had to turn the radar off, it rarely worked when I wanted, then would skip songs while I drove or skip youtube videos while I ate breakfast... loving the screen and cam though

To me it's an iPhone that runs Android. 90hz sound awesome but it's gonna drain the battery faster and I got an LG G8 with the same specs for $500 on Amazon. The oneplus 7 is $437 on Amazon.
Before anyone says it I know it sucks not having fast updates but 3.5mm jack, DAC, screen is the top speaker, micro SD card slot and 128gb base storage. Also IDGAF about the camera, it takes pictures.
The pixel 4 gets more screen on time than the one plus 7 pro so its battery is pretty good actually
@@flare78x31 just slap gcam mod and it will do great XD even sometimes better color than pixel(subjective, again colour not detail or etc but maybe better if not same? Haven't try g8 or pixel) at least my v20 confirm(with gcam) it still can trade blow with 2019 phone with newer camera or with fancy 48mp....

I like the fact that you offer an interesting comment on what has changed this year on the Pixel phone: they go against their common strategy, as least in advertisement, of software, and opt for hardware changes. @jo mo mo Because a lot of tech reviewers are pixel fans. I've at least recently seen a few say they can't recommend it at its price which is fair. The g8 is a great phone.

The Pixel 4 represented that next generation experience; not only the half-baked radar tech we thought would be all done, but the premium materials being offset by the best feel in the hand I've ever had the pleasure of using on a phone. They also catered to the high-refresh rate popularity, but again they did it in their classic, by now almost trademark reserve. Sometimes I think since Google is a software company (the biggest that's ever been) with such unlimited resources sprung just from Google search alone, that maybe they do find ways to make you NOT want to buy their products, presumably messing up promotion, launch, customer care, etc. Well, what if sometimes it's an experiment. What if Google could do hardware so much better, but they simply...don't care? I know it's a little bit in left field. Just a couple thoughts.

Tursko my iPhone XS last me 6 hours using the screen constantly, and let’s see, this phone is more bright and is always running in high quality. Same goes for the xr. Really, stop defending them

I personally think having the option to turn off or turn on night sight is great because the pixel is capable of taking brilliant night time shots without the mode being turned on as well, and in some situations I prefer those regular night shots over night sight shots. Besides the pixel does prompt you to switch to night sight and you can simply click on the prompt to start it.
