Hafiz and Qulsum live in one of the most conservative Muslim neighborhoods of the country's capital, Delhi.
Hafiz runs a small fish and vegetable market stall and they have both worked hard for the past 30 years to provide a good education for their six children.
Hafiz and Qulsum were selected to perform the Hajj pilgrimage [Al Jazeera]
It was the first time that Hafiz and Qulsum had applied, but their names were selected.
"Since childhood, I have prayed to God and asked him to call me to his house," Hafiz says.
"A lot of millionaires have not been able to go. It is not about how rich or poor one is. If Allah wants to call you, you will be able to go."

Watching this video made me emotional. As a Muslim, I haven’t taught about Hajj personally but I always wished to send me parents one day inshallah.
Seeing the joy and the elation on their faith made me think about the 5 pillars of Islam a lot.

I am an Atheist. The only problem I have with Hajj is when poor people spend their life's earning to go to Saudi Arabia and fund the already Rich Saudis with more money to get richer.
Saudis don't need your money, They have plenty of it. Saudis and Muslim Billionaires if they have any shame left, should declare that they will be funding Hajj for every Muslim around the Planet.
What i see right now is insanity - Poor people spending all their saved up money to fund the Super Rich !!!
It is not about money it is about faith dear. Haj is our greatest wish as a muslim if we have sources. If a muslim is poor it is not due for him.
Hajj is only for people who can afford it. It isn’t a sin if a poor person can’t go.
It is not Saudi, Indian Government looting the pilgrims. Normal airfare to Jidha is around 7000 to 9000 rupees, but Air India takes 50000 from pilgrims. and no subsidy from govt.
I am a former christian atheist and it does not matter how the poor choose to finance their pilgrimage. They can do whatever they want with their money as they believe they will be rewarded with Jannah. Faith can drive you to do many things.
