Re the lanchester, originally when new,all metal parts were blackened,,over he years the brass mag housing would be painted olive to make it non reflective......the metal barrel was also often parkerised.
Funny thing is the couple of replica guns I have I tried to age and some of the original deacs I stripped down and re sanded and varnished the wood work to make it better 😊
Ah ok , yes you are right....I suppose it depends what you are using it for, for re enactment maybe use dubbing ?....anyhow, happy new year to yourself and thanks for the comment 🙂🙂😀
@@Landsturmha ha Al.....I had to go through my TH-cam history to find out....its called 'ten seconds to hell'....I reckon I'm going to have to watch it, if you watch it first give me your email review 😊😊😊
Yes indeed, I've got 3 original german helmets, but these repros are good for displays and projects , they can ve painted , scuffed up etc and your not damaging real history 🙂🙂🙂
Stan! Happy new year… great oversized swede story…. Likely they would polish it.. don’t Blanco the sling. Making a re pro or prop item look better is a good idea,a real one normally not, cost, use and ease to replace dictates … I will protect the leather and cloth but largleykeep originals in the condition I found it …..A collection item is different to a reenactors item in treatment and use.
Hi John, the ageing of the helmet looks good to me, 👍 i agree with you if you have a limited budget replicas and reproductions of items are just as good.
Cheers James, I reckon that the denix garand that you and your brother aged....I apologise if it is Chris's replica only 🤣🤣🤣, really looks the part, two times better than mine, cheers m8 and all the very best to you 🙂🙂
Hey Stan! Certainly has it's place in the collectors world for budget reasons. Reenactment guys especially as you don't want to wear original gear. But I've always thought if your reenacting let it get busted up as you go along. More natural and you're not usually issued an aged helmet 😂. One for the future..coating the helmet in bleech and roasting it in the oven will give a good rust bl××d effect. Alot of ground dug helmets use this technique with a fake decal! But it works very well! PS if helmet roasting on a sunday, prepare to be in dog house. I speak from experience 😂 so beware 😂 Tried writing this comment 3 times no clue why it gets deleted instantly
Ha ha cheers, good tips for aging helmets....regarding comments disappearing....happens all the time, really is annoying, but I've read this one, cheers m8 and all the best 🙂🙂🙂
Ha ha ! ..I always have the last words with my ex-wife !! ..''Yes dear !'' lol ..ha ha ..you wouldn't want to see my collection ..all in cardboard boxes in the attic !! lol The helmets look great mate !! ..I'm sure the WW2 German helmets saw a lot of 'kicking around the garden !!' I do like the Dexix range.. I have a Tommy gun and a couple of pistols (Luger and TT-33).. love 'em !! Cheers to you and Mrs Stan and the cats bro ! Blessings as always !!
alec Guinness , ice cold in alex , the denex stuff is good if you want a wall hanger just dont drop it on a hard service a deact smle is about £600 a denex is about £200
Cheers and thanks for the comment, no its not ice cold....although that is a great film. I get you about the denix stuff....and thats all I do with mine , display only, although the ppsh41 seems to be quite robust, I do think the outer barrel cover is made of ordinary steel rather than the cast, I should check it with a magnet. Ten years ago it would have been daft to buy a denix SMLE as deacs at that point in time were a lot cheaper, but now if your on a budget then maybe the denix will do, for example I'd never be able to afford a deac MP44 , the denix one is fine for me....all the best 🙂
@@steelhelmetstan7305 i have been collecting deacts for over 30 years, i got my mp44 from ryton arms in 94 and it was £175 , the mags are now about £300 back then smles were less than £100 and my first sten mk2 was £65 😞
