I miss this game! This sounds like it would play if the brothers went to the *future* and saw what happened if the Mushroom Kingdom fell to the Shroobs.
No it puts you back at the start of the game Either in a sort of New game plus or it resets everything from the first run, to perfect Lap 2 of the game you must collect everything and Do everything as fast as possible.
I remember jumping from Superstar Saga to it and being disappointed. But it certainly wasn't bad. It's just that the attempt at the hub world and other streamlining did not help an already simple game.
