Sir, can you please tell whether we should be knowing some foreign language prior to UPSC interview for joining IFS? Let say two people appear for UPSC interview, one with keen desire to get IFS without knowing foreign languages, another person with DAF mentioning some foreign languages skills but with liberal mindset to join any services like IPS, IAS, IFS. Who is likely to get selected?
Well the services that you're allotted usually depends on the three primary factors. 1. Your All India Ranking 2. Your preferences (you'll be asked to fill a form where you've to mention your choice of services in the order of preference) 3. Vacancy for that year. So you don't necessarily have to know a foreign language. You'll be taught a compulsory foreign language (CFL) in your tenure at the Foreign Service Institute. All you need to focus on is your AIR! That pretty much determines everything. All the best!

Anyway for those who are mocking, you will stay like this mocking for whole life at stagnant place, and this guy shall be India's top Foreign Policy maker. So ya, effectively, he is more successful than you sitting on couch criticizing peeps. I don't know whether he stammers or not, but as a stammerer myself, I know the plight of being rejected despite being more qualified than many applicants. When people stammer, face features get very weird, and had this guy didn't used aaa and stammered instead, then you would have mocked him even more. So effectively, in both choices he would be a laughing stock. But ya, the way he is doing it presently, he shall surely be only mocked by illiterate peeps, but not the person he daily interacts with such as International diplomats, or policy makers or politicians. Stammering is very underrated disability. It steals a lot from a person. If you were a stammerer, you would have known the plight of it. The subconscious phobia of interviews, viva amongst others, despite knowing everything. Sir excellently handled it, and I aspire to do the same in my life, literally you won't believe, it's DREAM of stammerers to speak without pauses. Mind you, amongst most of the successful people in the World , many stuttered, but still made what you cannot achieve in your entire lifetime.
