I am so happy that you are doing this series. It will be an inspiration to all of us to help us keep on trying. The process never ends. Sometimes I feel like OK just stop, but then we are eating food, rotating our stock. You get me motivated to keep on canning, buying, etc. Thank you Mrs. H! PRAYERS FOR A WONDERFUL HARVEST THIS YEAR!

I stored canned food under my bed in my studio apartment in the jar flats the canning jars came in for years. Now I have a cellar and pantry, I'm still in.

Hi Mrs H (and Mr H). Praying for your continued healing. I have been following for a few years, since I got into gardening. Thank you to for all that you share, the good and not so good. It’s always inspiring. We are going to do the challenge too. I will continue to follow. I will watch again more of your videos about meats in particular and anything else that I need. Also, I would love to have the PDF. Continued blessings to you and your family.

I live on the Tulalip reservation in Washington State. I have access to fresh salmon and it is my favorite to can. I'm older now and it's harder to lift the canner but I still try because home canned food is so much better and cheaper. Especially if you grow your own.

It is way harder to live without purchasing something than people think. My kids and I did several weeks, almost a month, on the property living as if we were in a covered wagon. We researched what would have been taken with a person on the westward trails. We walked a lot, ate what they did. Had CPS called on us. But it was a worthwhile activity. The only thing we didn't do the same was water. We used the hose. There are limits. It was a health issue.
A lot of foods that have to be stored, you almost can't do on your own. The LDS guidelines fell short. I found huge holes in my storage. Flour was a big one. I had flour stored, nowhere near enough. When all bread has to be made, it's a problem. I bought a wheat grinder after that. Hand crank model we can hook to a bicycle. Stocked up on wheat. Wheat stores way better than flour. A canning jar can make butter, but it's a pain if you have to make a lot. We fixed that. Purchased a non-electric butter churn, a more modern one.
At the time we lived in a neighborhood, couldn't have animals, so we had to bring that in. Mostly chicken (which they did take with them) and turkey. My husband hunted during the season and we compromised and used that for red meat.
A really interesting show on pioneer life is "Pioneer House" it's here on TH-cam.

Glad you are healing and doing well Mrs H. I have been stocking up my pantry for over a year now. I live in a small space so my storage is limited. That have not stopped me…..I just keep it pushing with my stubborn self. I just find more creative ways to store my canned goods…problem solved! Thank You for all of the helpful information You share. Every time I Can pineapple I think about Homestead Heart. Your channel popped up on my recommended list a couple of years ago and You were canning pineapple🍍🍍🍍. God has a way of putting folks in your life at just the right time…..”Won’t HE Do It”
Be Blessed, Stay Safe and Happy New Year to You and Yours. Sending Prayers for your speedy healing process.

    What a fabulous idea...
And put away the money during the year, to put towards your supplies for the following year, and the savings from not buying things that are not necessary to survive,..
I will have to purchase a freezer and more jars to make this come to life for me... which were already on my Want list... so I certainly will be following along with this..
    Much appreciation from Australia

🇦🇺I saw a video a while ago to make a list of 14 breakfasts, lunches, Dinners and desserts. Write out the ingredients and how much you would need. Times by two for a month supply, then times by 13 months for a years worth.
You should have a detailed list of everything you need and the amounts for the year. You could change it up by making 28 Dinner meals and multiply by 13 months etc.
You would know what spices and amounts for a year, sugar/honey/maple syrup etc
Flour/ wheat berries, whatever or however you buy your food. You could put it into a PDF. Across the top the recipe (pancakes), (teriyaki chicken), then down the left side the ingredients ie flour, egg, milk, sugar. Under the recipe in line with the ingredient you need add spoon/cup measurements. Then you add the measurements across the ingredient ie (sugar) and have a final amount you would need for the year, always round up. If it’s 5.5 pounds of dates then say 5 pounds. Always over estimate what you would need.
If in a crisis you may need to expend more energy than now and may need to fuel your body more, or may have family that had to move in and more mouths to feed.
Remember to include snacks and drinks as well as water.

Hi Mrs H, short story…I had surgery a few years back and the thing I remembered was the sharp pain days after the surgery, the pain felt like a surgical device. What a horrible sharp pain I felt but in total I experienced that pain about four times and then it was just sore. Another surgery was done in my twenties and that was the worst and it took 6 mos. To a year to recover. So I feel your pain. ❤

Yes to the PDF. I accept the challenge. I'm picking up 1/4 cow this Saturday that just last us a year and I have several 5 gallon buckets of beans, flour, rice, sugar, laundry detergent, dish soap(all from Azure) and looking to plant what I can in my apartment. I haven't use my pressure canner as yet but I'm working out my nerves but I have can jello and the strawberry jam but might throw it out because it's been 6 months and I'm not sure if its good. I say all this to say THANK YOU MRS. H & MR. H BECAUSE YOU OPENED MY EYES TO A LOT OF THIS & I'M GRATEFUL. P.S I'm also getting chickens processed which should last us for awhile. I can't wait to start planting even if I fail.

There may be a few things I would want from the store like fresh milk, cheese, citrus and fresh produce but I have plenty for probably a couple years if I was careful. I eat from my stock pile and continually add. In fact I probably better get busy eating some home canned stuff so I have more jars for canning season.
