Wow, what an incredible repair process! Your attention to detail and thorough explanations made it easy to follow along. It's impressive to see how you diagnosed the problem so quickly. Keep up the fantastic work!
I don't know if I have the same problem, but I have the same laptop with the exact same symptoms. It turns out that the keyboard controller is flaky on these models, so what I did was to cover the keyboard ribbon cable with tape on all but pins 5 & 6, thereby isolating the power switch - this allows me to power the laptop on using the power switch by disabling the rest of the keyboard (which is creating a short that prevents power up). I have heard that reflowing the contact pins with a heat gun might also solve this issue, but I opted for using an external keyboard for the laptop as I like to use it connected to an external monitor anyway.
I really appreciate you telling us what voltage to try with voltage injection. I think you've mentioned the voltage in the past, but I forgot what video that was in, and what the voltage was. At 2:50 that info was super helpful for me! thank you!
I had this laptop, it’s the g15 advantage edition. Not surprised at all that it failed early. This thing gets insanely hot, the cpu practically lives at 95c no matter what is happening on the computer. If corrosion doesn’t kill it, the vapor chamber likely will. All they do is make practically everything on the motherboard as hot as the cpu die. Had failing ssd’s, ram, keyboard, this thing is a mess.
how many devices are repaired by Bigboss performing the first steps, disconnecting batteries, checking chargers ..etc ? i assume many people fail to do the basics
i own one of these laptops bought from new and have none of these issues as of yet. during the time ive owned it i have rarely had the laptop off for the time ive owned it
u look at these components on screen and they're as big as your thumb, IRL, you could fit 50 of them end to end across your thumb, so glad I moved to writing code.
I wish I lived closer to you as my youngest's Lenovo Legion 5P went kaput just after the warranty ended. Lenovo wanted as much to fix it as it would cost to buy a new one. Great work as always Sir, have an awesome day.
I hate stabilizer capacitors. Some years ago I fixed my desktop motherboard by just removing two of them :) And hate them even more because they became so tiny that I can't see them anymore and I don't have microscope. While I understand their purpose, I always wondered why some manufactures put 3, some put 7, some put zillion (and of different capacitance) in parallel. Yeah, ideally we could make a kilometer long array of filters, but aren't they useful only when current/voltage oscillates a lot? It makes sense if you are using laptop somewhere when voltage drops and raises between 50 and 350V or you are in constant lightning storm, but doesn't charger and battery already (should) provide such protection?
I have a lenovo yoga i5 ideapad, now 14 months old. It got a problem at 9 months, where it would no longer detect the bootable device. The ssd in my laptop became loose, maybe because I carry it in a backpack, but I thought that storage devices are normally *screwed* in place, not just socketed in. 3 weeks just to put the ssd back in its place. Next time I'll open it up myself, if the same thing happens. No soldering or anything, simple unassembling and reassembling.
@NorthridgeFix It would be interesting to know your opinion whether a good cooling pad makes a difference for a gaming laptop? I keep seeing ads regarding new Llano and Iets GT devices that claim to lower temperatures for 5/10 degrees.
I wonder if Asus is still getting (paying for) the components from the electronics manufacturer that were used for their earlier ROG laptops! 5:29 serious corrosion!! 😱 Is there a different cleaner for PCBs when there is a area showing corrosion? The high % IPA is good, but when there is heavy or a large area of corrosion?
Been a number of Asus laptop quality issues reported with my clients... TUF Books too, hope Asus gets some QM's down to the site to investigate what's going on before it get's too late for them...
Different capacitors have different capacitance codes which could be critical to the application (X5R, X6S, X7R, etc). How do you match the capacitance code of what was on the board previously other than just the capacitance value?
How do you deal with corrosion damage? I cleaned up a Nintendo switch wery well, but it failed again in a few weeks, corrosion still working in the area.
Why no Warranty? In Norway any device expected to last more than 5 years, has a 5 year warranty. It's called reklamasjonsrett, and is translated as "Customer Complaint". Basically, if it's broken due to a factory fault. They selling store has to fix or replace it at no cost to the customer.
Hello. What do you know about drain battery while laptop is powered off. If i have 100 % battery and i turn it off, next day battery it's at 60 ~ 70%. Just to be clear, i shut down pc, not hibernate, sleeping mode etc. I did a factory reset ( pressed down the power button for about 40 sec ) i reinstalled windows..etc.. The laptop is Asus Strix G18 N6060. Thank you
Someone please answer, what are those small capacitors called exactly, I’m trying to do research on it and I keep only seeing the big capacitors. The capacitors he replaced, what are they called
There is really no warranty in the USA??? These things are hell expensive, how could they just fail like this? (Okay, I just watched the video till the end and now I understand everything 😅)
Back in the early 2000's I built a few servers and video editing systems using ASUS boards. I had a couple of board failures with boards in the 2015 range. Their quality and their support became intolerable since then I avoid that brand. They have become a " F ... quality if we can still make money" corporate scam Corp.
I bought an expensive ASUS i5 because my brother also bought the same model. Both overheated and are sitting here yrs. I recon it is too powerful with inadequate cooling stock.
What we don't know and don't have about those failures is the full background story on the usage made by those peoples. I own only Asus ROG laptops, mainly Strix series, and never had a single failure! Wife is using the same laptop model or lower trim and she had failure once in while and prompt me to investigate why she having failure while i don't. She used to cover her legs with a blanket while on the sofa and that was blocking the air flow preventing proper cooling and eventually blowing components because of overheating. Bough here a laptop pad to put under her laptop. Failures are gone! Details are important and we don`t have it here!
i bought rog ally before, that is the 1st and last time i bought their product, 3x rma various issue, i bought gpd instead no problem ever since asus really have low quality product, but good looking design
Perhaps MSI are setting up fire departments, rather than dealing with the manufacturing factory or bothering with reaching out to original customer and repair shop.
Been using asus laptops for more than 2 decades including all of my family X series rog series tuf series etc Non of them has failed us through these years and all of them worked for us for 5 6 years My experience with asus laptops has been very good and all of them were reliable US shipments must be from a bad production line😅
Planned obsolescence my dads laptop from 2008 toshiba satellite s300 pro still working great after all this years he only uses it for light tasks..That's why I will never buy a new laptop because they are crap
this is a very annoying laptop. I didn't have any issues that prevent me from using it (yet?) but hell if I didn't have to look up a couple dozen of obscure problems that I've never seen before
Asus should sponsor Alex, so many Asus laptops are alive because of him
A voltage injection tutorial video would be awesome. Its such a good diagnostic method.

If you look at the past videos you will find one

The Way big boss says Bismillah every time! I like it.
I love that part. every time it's time to assembly i say it with big boss :).
Should say it every time, you start in the name of God, and you’ll find success
I do too....reminds me that I need to say it more
That's how it should be in our daily work
I always do after reassembly the laptop. Makes me feel positive
And now we know why laptop less than 1 year old was not sent for warranty repair :)
Wow, what an incredible repair process! Your attention to detail and thorough explanations made it easy to follow along. It's impressive to see how you diagnosed the problem so quickly. Keep up the fantastic work!

Destroyed within a year*
Tough to blame ASUS for liquid damage.
this time only.
he definitely knew the warranty would not cover this
Alex you are the best as a electronic technician.... regards from Indonesia.... BETTER THAN FACTORY...
Nice work Alex. I guess one new capacitor decided to travel into the ninth dimension. 😂
Nice Job, I have been watching our Vids for years. Great knowledge and troubleshooting skills - YOU DA MAN!
I really appreciate you telling us what voltage to try with voltage injection. I think you've mentioned the voltage in the past, but I forgot what video that was in, and what the voltage was. At 2:50 that info was super helpful for me! thank you!
Very nicely done, always impressive. A lot of patience and know how is needed to make such a repair. Masha Allah.
Just bought the atten hot air station yesterday can’t wait to try it! I’ve been using junk for awhile so this is gonna be like a Cadillac
Alex I think the big boss's job (disassembling and assembling the devices) will be very interesting to be presented on video so we can learn

As an Amateur, sometimes it's nice to watch a Pro.
how many devices are repaired by Bigboss performing the first steps, disconnecting batteries, checking chargers ..etc ? i assume many people fail to do the basics
A lot of times people put the laptop on their lap or a table with a table cloth. Blocking the cooling fans.
You are the most lucky repair shop, always a short on main power :))
I thought the same, I have only difficult errors which are even more difficult to repair. 😊
Great fix Alex ! Big Boss rocks ! Are you and your family enjoying your new home ?
i own one of these laptops bought from new and have none of these issues as of yet. during the time ive owned it i have rarely had the laptop off for the time ive owned it
Not spilling liquid into them helps a bit. :)
u look at these components on screen and they're as big as your thumb, IRL, you could fit 50 of them end to end across your thumb, so glad I moved to writing code.
Thank you for injection voltage information. Good fix 👍
5:20 looks like someone got bit too excited about that movie 😅
I wish I lived closer to you as my youngest's Lenovo Legion 5P went kaput just after the warranty ended. Lenovo wanted as much to fix it as it would cost to buy a new one. Great work as always Sir, have an awesome day.
If shipping isn't too bad, send it in to Alex.
I live on the East Coast and I still shipped it to California. That’s not much I trust these guys.
I hate stabilizer capacitors. To pass EMI RF emissions.
why not send for warranty is less than year old....

if liquid damage then warranty is void
Liquid damage. Wouldn't get coverage, especially if it's Asus.
Awsome demonstration , as a newbi arent those capacitors polarity sensative like other caps or dosent it not matter on them
@NorthridgeFix
It would be interesting to know your opinion whether a good cooling pad makes a difference for a gaming laptop? I keep seeing ads regarding new Llano and Iets GT devices that claim to lower temperatures for 5/10 degrees.
13:56 Press F to pay respect. We lost him.
Hey Alex, what is that white foamy stuff on the components? Love your videos, hello to BIGBOSS.
might be thermal putty or thermal pads, not sure either
I wonder if Asus is still getting (paying for) the components from the electronics manufacturer that were used for their earlier ROG laptops! 5:29 serious corrosion!! 😱 Is there a different cleaner for PCBs when there is a area showing corrosion? Caps have feelings too. Yes :D In my PC all caps are happy and work correctly :D
PS but I don't upsed them by liquid/overheat damage.
Is it okay to leave that remaining corrosion on the caps to the left?
Different capacitors have different capacitance codes which could be critical to the application (X5R, X6S, X7R, etc). How do you match the capacitance code of what was on the board previously other than just the capacitance value?
Nobody uses x5r and x6s. You just use x7r everywhere
How do you deal with corrosion damage? I cleaned up a Nintendo switch wery well, but it failed again in a few weeks, corrosion still working in the area.
What mirrorless and lens are u using sir?

This one is liquid damage. Pretty much user fault or accident. It's not a factory fault
how can i buy like those beautiful multimeter props??
Love when big boss says "Bishmillah" exactly same ritual I'm making for years after repairs, Mashallah Big Boss!
make the strong of heater air is lower to make sure components don't fly away
WTF are those bots in the comments.

Isn't it still under manufacturer warranty , as it's under 12 months , so there should fix it for free or replace it
great fix boss
Awesome fix.
Do you ship to Sweden?
I want to buy buy tools from you.
Do you have stencils for re-balling GPU's and memory chips?
When you buy an Asus gaming laptop, there are things you need to take care of. One of them is not dropping liquids on it.
I see a trend with a lot of asus products… the owners don’t take care of them and then blame asus lol
@7.13 Oh, the smell ! What kind of smell is this?! 🤣
Next time do clean first 😄😄
I once worked on a liquid damaged graphics card. Heating the board literally smelled like pee.
it smells wonderful
great work, have you ever worked on a audio mixer,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
boss of all bosses, never gets old.
Ok sir what movie where you watching?🤣
Awesome video
I'll never buy a gaming laptop ever again . Had an Alienware area51m. $3000 laptop and was dead in a year
and boss always with that sunshine DT17N multimeter lol
2.2uF is strangely big, they might be filter caps for a power supply.
Someone please answer, what are those small capacitors called exactly, I’m trying to do research on it and I keep only seeing the big capacitors. The capacitors he replaced, what are they called
Surface mount capacitors
You are right, I also think that capacitors are living and sentient beings.
No warranty from Asus ?
I'm gonna have to fix the hinges on my MSI but at least it still works after 3 years.
Big boss 🙌

How about hot Twizzlers to do this?
less than a year old? Warrenty?
tolerance fail - when hot
Always that asus
Perhaps MSI are setting up fire departments, rather than dealing with the manufacturing factory or bothering with reaching out to original customer and repair shop.
ASUS is know to be very, actually too strict on repairs. They for sure would have sent it right back to him and said he damaged it himself.
laptops have poor cooling in general add constant use on top of that while gaming and here we are
Been using asus laptops for more than 2 decades including all of my family
X series rog series tuf series etc
Non of them has failed us through these years and all of them worked for us for 5 6 years
My experience with asus laptops has been very good and all of them were reliable
US shipments must be from a bad production line😅
BİSMİLLAH her hayrın başıdır...
Asus make new laptops so thin and not enough room to cool hot components and then it stops working ... the same story with the same ending
Why didn't he RMA it if it's less than a year old
No manufacturer will cover liquid damage under warranty
@@GregM but how do you know it's liquid damage if you don't open it up
