Lovely boat Jack. I wouldn’t say no to it. We have a Grandezza27OC. It’s funny how you always compare any other boat to the one you currently own. Strange with Bavaria they do tend to leave off some of the most simplest items that are readily available and very cheap, the anchor locker with no gas struts, no hinge lid on the fender locker, simple things. We have modified out all of the niggles on the Grandezza by fitting all those little things, I still have a list of other things that I would like but I think you have to stop somewhere. Next for us is the 18 inch radome still waiting due to COVID.

I like the look, but better still is Jeanneau NC37...called 37 as in 37’, but in reality tip to tail it is a few inches shy of 40’; if you want to put one between two vertical walls, they would need to be 40’ apart for NC37 to fit.

It's already a strangely designed boat inside and out. However, the reviewer made it even weirder by doing the performance test first and get the boat all wet then do the features afterwards. I can only assume there was some scheduling issues that made him do the test first. I do appreciate Jack's honesty in his review.

  • @paulwalker2133

Very balanced review - I think it feels a bit cheap - the wood on the tables isn’t finished nicely, the helm station feels a bit cheap too - the gap on the steering wheel and the finish of the different parts of trim doesn’t feel very special. I normally really like Bavaria’s but this feels like they’ve cut some corners here...

Great looking yacht and even better looking at the price. I do like the Greenline 39 for looks but that Bavaria above is sexy. Ever the practical person in Britain i'd take the version with the door not just for warmth on a typical UK summers day but also for sound. Also just extends the season for a bit longer. One big question typical Englishman (i need a kettle for tea) sorry in advance but the kitchen area did not look like it had plug sockets is that correct?

@@nickmarks6066Tea is important, as is coffee, and for me, liquid Oxo steaming hot in a very large Mug (if you can find the big jars of it still ), so if sockets aren't immediately obvious, the question just has to be asked. tbh, I'd like a Gas hob and oven, with one of the portable single plate induction hobs. Maybe a Microwave, but I'm still not 100% sure if .I'd use one much on a boat. a Breadmaker and a slow cooker though if there's room for them. 👍 Best Wishes. Bob.

Didn’t see much refrigeration, didn’t see a radar, a generator, air conditioning, passerelle, not a single tv screen (not that I watch tv, but for a family boat you have to give a screen to kids for play or movies).
If you were to upgrade this boat in order to make it useable in the Med, and not just a day boat, how much would it cost really? For a practically naked 40 ft motor cruiser, € 500K, is a lot of money! Really.

      I found one! www.boatsandoutboards.co.uk/Cruiser/defever-49-pilothouse/319535
Quite nice, but perhaps not as a direct comparison to the Bavaria.
An amusing analogy for both of you... the Bavaria is today’s modern house with all fake wooden flooring and not a carpet in sight. Much beloved of the under 50’s (I had to pick an arbitrary age bracket - guess which side I’m on..) to show their style credentials and keep a young trendy family happy. Effective, impressive, but easy to fall out of love with when the next best thing comes along.
The DeFever, the old solid house in the woods that requires much upkeep but is beautifully and agelessly styled (in the eye of the beholder - before the young buyers rip it to shreds and modernise it...). It may not be fuel efficient and even if it is your vegan granddaughter will turn her nose up at it because it hasn’t got built in WiFi!
So unwise to compare rotting with mouldy or new with old. I wouldn’t have the Bavaria because I haven’t got the latest Discovery to go with it (damn I nailed my colours to the mast rather obviously there didn’t I) but no doubt it’s competent and Jack always gives a fair review and it will suit today’s modern family. But in my mind the DeFever will turn more heads - and require the owner/skipper to be more than a dab hand at maintenance!

@@jackhaines123 I think we all realise, and certainly see, the effort and professionalism put in to producing this content.
TH-cam has been here for really just the blink of an eye, but every viewer has become used to it being free. That’s not an excuse, but it is a challenge to the content producers how they define or integrate the advertising. We all buy magazines, some of us takeout subscriptions but show us an annoying advert on TH-cam (I thought Nigel Farage was done with now he pops up on here trying to flog me something I don’t want or need - I can’t click fast enough to get rid of him) and we’re back into “Angry of Tunbridge Wells.”
You do a great job and the delights of TH-cam allow the viewer a voice (not always a good thing). Maybe there’s mileage in explaining the monetisation aspects to the wider audience? And adverts, yes an understandable necessity. Perhaps we could choose not to have them associated with or delivered by someone who has so successfully decimated Brits boating abroad!
